Disappointed my expensive Bontrager…
Disappointed my expensive Bontrager shoes broke, but very happy with the way Will Taylor rectified things and his responsiveness. Thank you Will 😀

Domane SL8. Below average bike. Bought in summer 2018. It has spent a lot of time in the shop; from the ISO speed joints and now the front shifter is getting harder and harder to use. Left wrist get sore from shifting after only 50 miles. Old Dura Ace was wonderful; new 9100 series sort of junkie. I only ride the thing about once/week for less than 60 miles. Madone 5.9, S-Works 29er, Dura Ace Ridley C/F cyclocross and XTR Maverick aluminum mt bike were all much better than this thing. This bike has been in the shop more than all those bike combined. Can see why Trek dropped the model after only a couple of years. Stock saddle was uncomfortable. Upgraded to C/F bontrager saddle and C/F drop bars.

//Line

Product: Trek Domane ALR 5 (2017). Best Uses: Endurance road cycling, Gravel grinding. Pros: Endurance geometry, All-road bike design, Good spec's for price, Shimano 105 works well, Hydraulic disc brakes, Up to 35 mm tires. Cons: Manufacturing flaw in fork crown, Trek warranty not being helpful. I have ridden my Domane ALR 5 (2017) for more than 1500 km now; partly on road with 32-mm slicks, partly on gravel with 35-mm gravel tires. It has generally been a really good experience, except the actual bike came with a manufacturing flaw that influenced the handling and steering: the crown race (bearing seat) on the fork turned out to be neither circular, nor centred. Consequently, the head set parts were not perfectly aligned and the lower bearing in the head set could move a bit under load. Therefore, the bike did not feel rock solid in the steering and handling – especially at high speeds. Unfortunately, the flaw was apparently not identified by Trek QA before sales and further could not be handled by Trek Warranty after sales – so I had to fix it myself... The overall rating thus cannot be higher than 2 stars; without the flaw or with adequate warranty it could have been 4-5 stars. Bike handles fine and predictably after repair. PS. Have of course informed the Trek dealer, Trek Denmark and Trek USA; hope they could use the feedback. This review was initially submitted to Trek's web site, but never published.
