After you cancel policy, they will bill you. They are three times more expensive than most insurances. I had to pay two payments to two companies the last month. They advertise as cheaper for elderly which is false advertising. They will sent a collection letter if you don’t pay immediately. AARP should be ashamed to advertise for them as helping the elderly.

Home policy of 20 years went up 185%…
Home policy of 20 years went up 185% this year (almost double). For the insult? A new convenience fee of 3% for credit card payments. Great example of how to feel gouged in one easy transaction; I guess they really do segment consumers into those likely to switch (discount them) and those likely to stay (surcharge them).

I'd give The Hartford negative ratings…
I'd give The Hartford negative ratings if possible. The Hartfords paperwork policies appear to be shady in the fact that instead of giving you all the forms at once they give you the first form then claim info is "missing" and the make you resubmit more paperwork. I'm on go round number 4 and my claim isnt done yet.

THEIR STARS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES, HORRIBLE
If I could give them -100 stars I would. But clearly I don’t need to with their 1.2 star rating.
I bought a 2024 jeep.
1 week after having it, I got T-boned by an old lady and her husband who “didn’t see the stop sign” NEITHER ONE SAW THE STOP SIGN (they were declared at fault, obviously)
I had my 2YO and 4YO in the car, plus my 66YO mother.
It took 3+ weeks to even be told if it was fixable or if it was a total loss. (That was with me calling the tow yard J&M and COPART where it was getting towed to, to get pictures of the damage) plus I was calling hartford every few days to get updates.
Finally they got their shit together and declared it was totaled. (After 3 weeks and me being on their case)
I bought it (1 week prior to the accident) for a few thousand more than what they want to pay me for the total loss.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.
Lydia the adjuster who was covering for Bobby Ryan was absolutely awful on the phone told me I wasn’t respectful.
Richard Rodriquez was just as bad with his mouth, telling me it’s only worth so much.. but I could do his job for him and find jeeps worth the same price in my state and send them to him for a better quote.
So definitely do your homework and find an insurance company with more than 1 star. A company that has respectful representatives and adjusters. And also cares for your family and yourself.
Hartford isn’t the one.

First let me say it is impossible to…
First let me say it is impossible to leave a negative review on the Hartford Insurance site. People beware that it appears they only post a few, if any, negative reviews. Our claim for an April, 2026 storm is still not resolved. Their first appraiser missed a lot of the damage so we requested a second appraiser. The Hartford hired an engineer who took 4 weeks or longer to finish his report. Actually we are not sure he finished it as our claims adjuster is out of the office and emails go unanswered. Their customer service is not good at all as they do not respond to inquiries of claim status and when they do say it is not their fault as they are waiting on this or that. BEWARE they do not like to pay claims. We have cancelled all insurance lines with them because of the handling of our only claim with them.

they make your policy difficult to cancel
It's easy to get business insurance with The Hartford and beware, they make it so difficult to cancel! On the online account, there is no way to manage the account and cancel the policy. When they send notices, they make sure to only communicate their website URL, but not a customer service email address or a useful phone number. Turns out, you have to write to them or talk to them in order to cancel the policy. Otherwise, it will automatically renew at the end of the period. This information is hidden somewhere in the vague language of the policy, but otherwise not communicated to the individual policy holder. I checked into my account weekly as I was approaching the end date of my policy and could not see any information on renewal, or an option to cancel, or a customer service phone number to call. Naturally, I assumed that when the policy expires, my relationship with The Hartford is over. Then, I started receiving weekly snail mail notices about non-payment. Finally, they mailed an over $100 invoice (including a penalty) for not paying my automatically renewed policy. This amount was supposed to be for coverage from the expiration of the previous policy until the date 6 weeks later when Hartford cancelled for non-payment. It took me several days and dozens of phone calls to find one customer service person who was willing to do something. He gave me an email address to which I sent the policy that I attained from another company in order to prove that I did not need The Hartford's coverage. Then he said to call back because otherwise I will not hear from them. I called back a few days later. They deducted some amount from my invoice, and I paid the remainder via the phone (no receipt, no paid invoice), which was mostly the penalty. Then, a week later, I received three other letters from them: 1. An unpaid invoice 2. A policy with dates from the end of my previous policy to the same date next year. 3. A meaningless piece of paper. The set of mail made it seem like they reinstated my policy. I started calling them again. Finally, I managed to speak to a customer service representative who was extremely rude. He stated that I do not have a policy with them anymore. When I asked why I received one, he put me on hold and did not come back. This seems to be the pattern with their customer service assistants. When they don't know what to do, they put clients on hold and keep them there until the client hangs up. My current policy is from a different company. It is a little bit more expensive, but it comes with full customer service and assistance. It also includes a website that documents every action, invoice, and bill payment, and a person I can reach out to for any account management I need. I would never work with The Hartford ever again. This online marketplace wants to sell you the insurance policy but makes it impossible for you to cancel it.

Run away!
First off, they increased the premium on my auto/home package by $600 after I accepted their offer and it was too late to change to another insurer without having a coverage gap. No explanation, just an increase. Then they increased my auto policy by 10% and homeowner's by 5 on renewals this year.
Now I have a not-at-fault claim and I am having a terrible time with them. It took a week for them to pick up my car and tow it to a shop. They wanted me to take it somewhere, but they hadn't authorized a tow and no shop in the area can even look at it for 4-6 weeks. The car is now an hour's drive away. It's going on the rack for inspection tomorrow, 10 days after the accident. That's not acceptable service.

My experience with this company was terrible
My experience with this company was unbelievable. Jennifer and Jeff were extremely unhelpful, and I found their handling of my case to be unprofessional and incompetent.
I never signed the insurance policy, yet I was told I still had to pay simply because I had verbally said the policy looked fine.
This experience was frustrating from start to finish. I would not recommend this company based on how my case was handled.
