AWFUL Hartford Company at all stages - We were with them for years, paid them thousands & our rates kept going up despite no claims, so we finally decided to shop via an independent insurance agent who found much better rates. But more importantly, we found professional friendly insurance sales persons who seemed to appreciate our business.

Portal access permanently cut off during long term disability claim
Once you are no longer with the company that you worked for Hartford locks you out of the portal, even though you still have to submit paperwork and they will continue to pay the claim. From that point on you have to call for EVERYTHING. Was told it's because the company that hired them pays for portal access. I would think it would be more cost effective for Hartford to give portal access than to pay their reps to take all those phone calls. It's very frustrating to have to wait on a rep to call me to let me know if claim extension has been approved or denied or they need additional info. I was able to see all that on the portal before access was cut off. I have also been bounced around, being constantly assigned to new reps, all of which seem to do things a little bit different. Over-all not a great experience lately.

God awful support
They owe me so much after my claim and tech support is no help at all. Called them 10 times even, one was being petty and left me in silence for 15 minutes. Pick something else for the love of god!

Horrific long term disability experience
I could not be more disappointed with my long term disability experience with Hartford. I applied through my employer, and it has been the most hostile and frustrating experience over the past five months. I originally applied in December 2023, however, their online portal was unable to accept my claim submission due to a technical bug within their system. I called customer service 10+ times to try to find a new way to submit my claim, and was given such a run around, passed between departments who either confirmed their portal was broken and offered no solution, or others who were unaware there was a problem and insisted there was no other way to submit my claim. It's profoundly clear there is little to no effective communication internally at this company, and customer service reps have very little idea how to actually answer basic questions. It took four weeks and dozens of customer service calls just to be able to submit my claim successfully, at which point I did not hear anything for nearly two months. I had to contact my employer to have them reach out to their Hartford rep, as my claim had been completely ignored with no confirmation of receipt or action. Once Hartford finally started moving on my claim, it was handed off between reps with no warning, and each new rep would send me letters restarting the process over and over as if there was no continuity to my claim. Additionally, their portal continues to not update accurately, so it's never clear what documentation they have and have not received and who my current rep is. They repeatedly send faxes to my doctors at the wrong number, and I often have to personally manage contact with my doctors and hand off forms because Hartford seems unable to do so effectively. They have repeatedly moved the goal post and put up barriers to completing my claim, such as claiming I missed the time to apply for state disability benefits (which I was never instructed I needed to do) and therefore they did not have to consider my claim because I was not exhausting "all possible benefits available to me". As I have gotten closer to finally closing this claim and providing pages and pages of medical documentation, they have recently began outright lying that information is missing despite me being able to point them to the exact document and page number where that information is provided. They either do not actually read the information they have received from my medical providers, or they are intentionally creating barriers to ensure my claim cannot close. It seems clear from every interaction I've had - ranging from assigned reps to customer service agents - that their company culture is determined to be as hostile to claimants as possible and ensure it's nearly impossible to have a successful disability claim get paid out. I wish I could get the past five months of stress and endlessly jumping through hoops back - it truly has not been worth the stress and strain. I hope employers actually read these reviews and seriously reconsider using Hartford as their disability provider. It is not a benefit to your employees and is a horrible sign about how much you actually value your employee's wellbeing.

Shop around - just because AARP recommends this company does not mean they are Good or Affordable!
We were insured with The Hartford for 17 years (blind loyalty!) because AARP recommended them. We had several policies (Home, Auto, Umbrella and a Rental Policy) and paid The Hartford a lot of $$ over the years with no loyalty from them! Between 2021 to 2022 our rates went up 34% and when I called and asked "why?" (no claims, no issues), they said, "to cover rising costs" and I asked "who's costs? Not ours, The Hartford's'?" and the CSR replied "Well, yes"! Then between 2022 and 2024 our rates went up ANOTHER 22%!! (again, no claims, no issues on our end, made our payments regularly and didn't even get discounts for good driver, etc.) and their advertised "disappearing deductible" is not true as far as I could tell! Cancelled them and saving over $2,500 annually! Glad they are in our rear-view mirror!

If I could give a zero I would
If I could give a zero I would! This company is horrible. Filed a claim though my job and never got an answer on if I was approved or denied. I called once a week and followed up with my claim and still haven’t received any money . I was given a final determination date of the 25th on that same date I called and was told nothing was needed. Then checked the website and seen they requested more information from my doctor on the same day after I was just told nothing else was needed. This company is so wrong and cruel to people who are out of work on short term disability

Zero communication from my "claim…
Zero communication from my "claim analyst" any step of the way- closed my claim (incorrectly) without ever speaking to me- I had to fight to get a direct number for my analyst since they do not respond to emails either; after multiple unreturned calls I obtained a number for their supervisor- left a message, no response from them either but at least shortly after that the issue on my claim was fixed. Now, again, claim closed with no communication to me- I had to log in and find the letter that they posted which would have been unnecessary because if they had called me the issue would have been resolved and they would not have to now, again, re-open my claim. No customer service at all- no communication and no care for their customers.

Take advantage of someone else’s
I got insurance both for my vehicle and home renters insurance. Why because I am older and good driver doesn’t have tickets. Well this insurance was so expensive! Is so ridiculous that they target seniors and instead of having rates more affordable base on the income? Their answer is was we are all paying more rates that is how it it? Instead of going down and having that ridiculous app, all the time on! Saying good driving! Nothing made a difference. But young people can actually get cheaper insurance for their BM or Mercedes? As I was told by them! Pay higher premiums rate as younger male and continue yo pay higher premiums as older? Don’t recommend!
