I would strongly caution anyone considering using The Hartford for business insurance coverage. My experience has been extremely disappointing and concerning from a trust and transparency standpoint. For years, I allowed my business insurance policy to auto-renew under the assumption that the same level of coverage was being maintained unless I was clearly notified otherwise. Instead, The Hartford reduced portions of my coverage during renewal, never clearly disclosed the reduction, and continued billing me as though everything remained the same. There was no meaningful transparency, no proactive explanation of the changes, and no effort to ensure I understood that my protection had been reduced. Business owners depend on insurance companies to be upfront, consistent, and trustworthy—especially when policies are renewed automatically year after year. Quietly reducing coverage while continuing automatic billing undermines confidence and creates significant risk for customers who believe they are protected. In my opinion, this is not how a reputable insurance company should operate, and it has seriously damaged my trust in The Hartford.

This company was terrible to deal with. They insisted on charging me workers comp for contractors that worked 0-5 hours per week. This is not required by state law. I had to submit copious amounts of documentation to argue this, they took months to review it, came back with an "adjusted amount" which was a slight decrease and then the next cycle, charged me fully for these minimal contractors all over again. I dumped them as soon as I could. Customer service was not effective and their website is clunky and the documentation they send you requires a lawyer (or now AI) to translate. Nothing is clear, nothing is straightforward and it 150% feels like a money grab with no concern other than their bottom line. Keep looking elsewhere and save yourself the headache. As business owners and heads of organizations, we have other places that require our time and this company will take all the time you have to wade their their bureaucracy just to insist you pay them what they want- despite your state requirements or regulations.

This insurance is a complete scam- they say 55 & over cheap insurance and they charge way more than any other insurance I have got a quote from! They should not be lying to people that AARP and the Hartford is cheap. When GEICO offers way less! Awful service

If I could do a zero star I would I had auto coverage until I put in a claim a tree branch fell on my truck. I had home insurance coverage with them until I tried to submit a claim for storm damage to my roof and the told me it was $500 to repair it but made me replace my roof . They send a contractor out to make sure they don’t have to pay for anything but make you do repairs out of your pocket. I don’t recommend this company at all I had them for 12 years and get done like this . Unreal

Unfortunately after the fact, I discovered that auto coverage is significantly higher than competitors. In addition, my experience with their customer billing has been dismal. After discovering I had been cancelled, I was billed for those months that I was not covered with an explanation after the fact that it had been renewed.

The worst customer service known to mankind. They deliberately try to extend and delay by not giving you full information. Every time I call they add a new final piece of information that is missing. I get zero updates when I resubmit and have to call for weeks to be told again something is missing or isn't right about what I submitted. They make is near impossible to get through to anyone who can do anything in any real capacity to help. They do not even inform properly. Honestly unbelievable, this is one of the worst if not the worst customer service experience I have ever had with any company in any service anywhere ever in my entire life. Horrendous, terrifying, appalling, and horrific come to mind. I do not typically ever write reviews, and if I do it is because it would be a positive one. Mark this as my first negative review I have ever posted as I have never been so compelled to share how absolutely terrible they have been with anyone who will listen. Everyone should know they will not give you the full story. Everyone of them will tell you something different. They will say it final, until its not. And you will have to hound all of those updates yourself, because they wont be letting you know. This is going on 6 months now with no end on sight.

Incredibly frustrating experience with Hartford. Commercial policy holder for six years. Attempted to add an E&O policy to my account. What an incredibly poor experience from Customer Service. Three calls over five days for a total of two hours; five emails to the Customer Service associates I worked with on the phone. Zero responses. I sent follow ups for assistance to the CustomerCare email address; zero response. I decided to cancel my business with them immediately and moved on to another company. STAY AWAY from The Hartford. Poor levels of service, pricing also not that great I discovered in my efforts to locate another insurance company. Try biBert (Berkshire Hathaway company), NEXT or Hiscox to start (in that order).
