From Bad to Worse: Privacy Issues and False Refund
1. Violation of our privacy 2. False promise of full refund of the reservation. We recently had the opportunity to stay at Casa Tais | 1BR in Polanco, Mexico City. However, our experience at this hotel was plagued with issues regarding the privacy and security of our room, specifically regarding unauthorized access and false promises of a refund. During our first night in the assigned room, we noticed that the wardrobe frame was loosely attached to the wall, with exposed nails. In order to document the condition in which we found the room, we immediately reported this issue through the in-app chat on May 28th. The following day, when we opened the wardrobe door, it completely detached. Once again, we promptly reported this incident through the in-app chat and requested a room change. We were informed that a staff member needed to inspect the door in person. We explained that we couldn't wait for maintenance due to our schedule and committed to informing them when we were in the room. Unfortunately, upon our return the next day, we discovered that the maintenance staff had entered our room without our consent and made repairs to the wardrobe. This violation of our privacy and security was particularly concerning, as our valuable belongings were inside the room. We immediately expressed our concern to Moises Israel Velasco Saucedo, who eventually assigned us another room. We were relocated to Taman Condesa | 2BR in Condesa, Mexico City. Upon entering this new room on May 31st, we began settling in and noticed that the wardrobe door in the master bedroom was off its track. We promptly informed Moises about this inconvenience and requested that it be recorded as an incident. At that time, we informed him that we would be using the wardrobe in the secondary bedroom for the remainder of our stay. Approximately 15 minutes later, two Sonder employees arrived at the room to "resolve" the door issue. However, despite their efforts, along with the receptionist, they informed us that they were unable to repair it. We made it clear to the two Sonder employees that the door should be fixed upon check-out and reiterated our request to prevent unauthorized access to the room. Our concern escalated on the following day, June 1st, when, while we were in our room (my girlfriend was taking a shower), the same Sonder employee opened the door without authorization to offer the room to other tourists, as the system indicated it was unoccupied. This situation represented an even greater and deeply concerning risk that they could have entered when we were not present. We immediately reported this incident once again to Moises Israel Velasco Saucedo. Minutes later, Moises arrived at our room to apologize for the situation and offered us any form of compensation we desired. We accepted the offer of a full refund (MXN 7,117.52) for the reservation, to which Moises agreed. Additionally, a new access code was provided to prevent any unauthorized entry in the future. However, our disappointment grew on the following day, June 2nd, when we discovered that the wardrobe door in the master bedroom had been repaired again without our consent. This third violation of our privacy and security within such a short period of time raised significant concerns and led us to the decision to leave the hotel for safety reasons. Before departing, we once again requested the full refund that Moises had promised us. Unfortunately, Moises changed his position and informed us that only a partial refund applied. To date, we are still awaiting the refund of MXN 2,425.11 to our credit card. These false promises had a significant impact on our vacation experience. The time and effort we spent trying to resolve the wardrobe issues resulted in a substantial loss of time, depriving us of two valuable days of our vacation. It is extremely frustrating to invest time and energy in resolving problems that could have been avoided if the hotel had fulfilled its commitments and ensured a safe and comfortable environment from the beginning.
