Overall this has been a great addition to our home. We are very busy with work and outside projects that cleaning the apartment gets put on the back burner until our cleaning lady comes once a month. This has helped keep our toilet clean without a thought. We also appreciate that there are no chemicals used, so our dog is safe if he takes a drink out of the toilet.

Great product that just needs a few app fixes
I have been using Shine for the past 3 months and the cleaning has been great. The device was a little tricky to set up at first but mainly due to some app bugs. The product does a good job and the water data seems pretty accurate. I think if the company continues to improve the app as they say, I would buy again and recommend the product.

Shine - Great idea. Apps needs work. Toilet bowl gets a pretty good cleaning.
I ordered a Shine unit when they were offered on Kickstarter. I finally received my unit and installed it following the provided directions.
Setup was easy. Connecting it to my WiFi took a couple of tries before it successfully connected to my home network. Once connected, I was able to create my first batch of electrolyzed water. Depending upon the content of the “bowl”, the unit did a pretty respectable job of cleaning.
The app was initially pretty buggy, and a few features didn’t work out of the gate. Over time, the app had been updated, with bugs fixed and workflows updated. It still has a ways to go with a couple of the workflows.
Customer service has been been responsive and emails regarding issues have been addressed.
Currently, I use two pods when making a new batch of cleaning solution. The device performs better with two pods. Next “brew” will be three pods to see if the cleaning gets better. It would be nice if each pod were stronger so fewer pods were required to get a good cleaning.
The toilet the unit is connected to also has a bidet seat. Because of that, the spray head couldn’t be installed on the back rim. 😟
I had a service interruption from my internet provider one day, and service was restored, the Shine unit failed to reconnect. To recover, I had to uninstall the unit from the app and reinstall it. A few weeks later, and after an app update, service was again interrupted, but this time when service was restored the unit reconnected correctly.
Spray coverage needs to be addressed so it covers the whole bowl, especially the back of the bowl.
Would I buy this again? Yes. Would I recommend to others? Yes.

Things are improving
Latest update:
The company did in fact respond, but the message got delivered to an obscure junk mailbox, which isn’t their fault.
So up from one to three stars.
The unit seems to be behaving even better after the most recent refill and recharge.
Still keeping a close eye on whether or not it is making a significant difference in the cleanliness of my toilet, and will improve the rating further if this is the case.
PREVIOUS COMMENTS:
The marketing copy indicates that the unit’s battery holds a charge for as much as 6 months.
Mine has yet to hold a charge for more than 2 or 3 days.
So the unit requires constant attention and clutters up the limited space in my bathroom while charging for as much time as it is in operation. It’s an almost useless nuisance in my opinion.
And just try finding out the instructions to recharge the battery! Buried deep in the website.
The unit required recharging as delivered. There is nothing in the literature included with the unit that indicates the unit needs to be well charged before using. If a product is delivered with faulty instructions, then it is in fact defective. Almost every other rechargeable device I have bought has very prominent details about battery charging in the instructions that accompany the product.
An email to the company requesting help has been ignored.
Thus unit was a gift so two people have been let down, not just myself.
AN UPDATE:
Despite still being ignored by the vendor, I decided to try something even though there is no easily discoverable trouble-shooting section in the instructions or on the website.
I removed the device from my account, recharged and refilled it, then turned it on and added it back to my account. So far so good.
I now see several details in the app that were indicating a problem, but still couldn’t find out what these indicators meant. There should be a place that tells: "If you see this, then you need to do that."
So my rating stays at one star because without adequate instructions, a device is in effect delivered broken, and being ignored doesn’t instil much confidence.
I will see if the device acts as it is claimed to. Time will tell.
Another Updste:
Still being ignored by the vendor. After muddling through some adjustments with no help from the vendor, I see that the unit has retained a charge for almost a month. I am sure I don’t flush six times ss often as the average person, but this is a slight improvement.
Does the unit do what it’s supposed to? Hard to tell. It seems to sort of duplicate a function that my bidet attachment has, so I really see no appreciable effect.
So still one star.

So many issues with this device
So many issues with this device.
1. Had some sort of film over the battery connectors that had to be cleaned with alcohol before it would turn on.
2. Wouldn't setup. Apparently they have an issue with newer Android phones not connecting via bluetooth for the original setup. Had to borrow an iPhone to get it setup.
3. Calibration is all off. Will not clean when you flush, but will randomly clean when you don't.
4. It shoots the seat and lid, not the bowl.
5. If and when you need support, they are only available during business hours. If you work a normal job, good luck actually working with anyone.
6. It doesn't help with cleaning at all. Bleach tablets work better than this thing.
7. The power saving mode actually makes battery life significantly worse. As in, with it enabled, the device won't even stay powered on for more than a day without a recharge. With it off, it seems to go a little over a week.
Overall, I can't state forcefully enough that this is a horrible product that should never have been sold. Save yourself all kinds of headaches and just don't give them your money...

After waiting almost 2 years unit has multiple problems
After waiting almost 2 years to receive this since they charged me for the device, it arrived with a dead battery and no instructions on how to charge it or a charging cable. I called customer service and they confirmed that the battery was dead and shipped a charging cable - I alerted them to the fact that not a single one of my charging cables works so it might be that the battery is defective and the “outlet” to plug in a cable put in backwards. What is even more bizarre is that then two days later the app tells me the unit is fully charged yet I’ve not charged it at all because no charging cable works. Clearly something weird is going on.
Additionally, the unit randomly sprays not connected to any flushing - and does so multiple multiple times a day. The best though is that it’s not spraying the toilet bowl but the seat leaving it soaking wet each time you go to sit on the toilet and at times spraying your private parts while you are still on the seat before you’ve flushed. I’m sure that can’t be good. This clearly still has a lot of bugs and should not be sent out nor $$ taken for a product (2 years ago) that still isn’t yet ready for consumers.

Easy installation of equipment
Easy installation of equipment, no tools required. App was easy to install on iPhone. I wish it came with a charger cable but they are inexpensive to purchase. Runs very well and is keeping my bowl fairly clean. Taking a little adjustment to find the right amount of cleaning pods to use and the spray duration but it's very easy to manage.

You can make your own pods. It's easy.
Got mine a few weeks ago and it's an alright product. I wanted to include a few helpful tips though on here for newbies.
1. My product works as expected. Pairing it wasn't super difficult although it did fail to connect to their server the first time but I just did it again and it worked (the thing I love about tech is that the insanity rule does not apply; doing the same thing over again does yield different results).
2. The product is basically an electrolysis maker/pump hybrid with a sprayer on the other end of a thin tube and a wire with a clip that I would guess uses an ultrasound sensor or something once every 10 or 15 seconds to check if your toilets water hose is exhibiting "refill activity" (filling your toilet back up after a flush) I wouldn't be surprised if you have a very quick refill toilet that it wouldn't always catch that it was flushed depending on the timing. Mine refills slowly so it doesn't make a difference to me and I can't test it. (it's possible that the calibration process accounts for this and just speeds up how often to send a check pulse).
3. The app is pretty bad. I'm in the business so I know how difficult it is to make a good app but I feel like even I could have mustered together a team to make a better one. It does have all the necessary functions to get the assistant working but that's about it. You can see how many gallons of water you used as well but that bugs out half the time. It's also very buggy when you need to refill it. There's a button that says "make new solution" but it takes several attempts (and maybe a flush or two) before it finally shows up saying it's making the electrolysis solution. I suppose you could also delete the device and reconnect it to get it to work but I never had to go that far (yet). It also took a few tries to get through the tutorial on my galaxy Note 10+. After relaunching the app several times it finally worked but I was already half way through doing it on my tablet instead.
A note about the pods. You don't need their overpriced pods. You can literally make it yourself for not even pennies. All you need is a bowl that holds 1 quart of water and mix in 1/2 a teaspoon of kosher salt and 1tsp of distilled vinegar. That's it. Each one of their pods holds about 1 tsp of solution. Pour 3 to 4 tsp of your homemade solution into the assistant fill with water and fumble with the app to get it to start the electorysis process. That simple. You can get some chlroine test strips and dip them into the assistant after the electorysis process is done to check that it worked. You're basically just making your own hypochlorous acid which is indeed a powerful disinfectant. And it's true that it's unstable so it will eventually return to a saline solution. But you're basically just electrifying saltwater. It's maybe possible that their "precise measurements" make a slightly more powerful version but I doubt it. Even if you feel like that's true you can just add more of your own homemade solution to compensate. I personally haven't noticed any difference and neither have my test strips.
As an entrepreneur and a tech enthusiast I love trying to make my home smarter and clean itself and I appreciate what this company is trying to do. But this business model is flawed because it basically hopes to get you to subscribe to their pods which are just really easy to make yourself with general public ignorance of this fact being their only saving grace.
A note about Alexa. It's not out yet. It's rather annoying because all their ads feature the function but it doesn't exist. Not that it really matters anyway youd never need to ask for it to clean since it does it every time you flush.
The cleaning is alright but I wish it had two spray nozzles. It gets one side of the toilet very well but fails to get the back of wherever you place it. So half my toilet is very clean.
All in all it's not a bad product and it helps keep the bowl cleaner for longer. Sadly doesn't eliminate the need completely. The app could be alot better and maybe it will over time. The pods you can make yourself.
