Do NOT become a sitter for Rover. They claim to be the “middle man” between dog sitters and owners, only to legally wash their hands of you when a situation out of your control happens. Their Rover guarantee for sitters is NON EXISTENT! Don’t be fooled. How are you going to claim middle man status, but then claim a guarantee? It makes no sense. It’s a 2 billion dollar company profiting off people, without a care in the world for anyone. I was new and wish I knew more info before signing up. If you do decide to do it, make your own contract with the owners, know you’ll have to pay vet costs out of pocket and go after client for reimbursement, only if they agree, never take a new last minute booking, always do a meet and greet no matter what, inspect the animal, do a complete search, injury’s, ears, walking, behavior around other dogs, etc. Just know, you’re on your own and if you make a fuss they will delete your account.

We were traveling out of state and required boarding for our dog for 5 days - Rover listed a home near our destination where he stayed with a big back yard and a buddy to play with - he slept on the couch like at home. We received pictures everyday of a happy dog. The experience was very good and we were able to enjoy our time away without worry.

I don't live near any of my relatives, so I rely on Rover to do the background checks to bring trustworthy and loving sitters into my home. So far every sitter I've found on Rover has been wonderful and I've used Rover for over 2 years now. For our dog, we tried Pet Paradise, but never saw her on camera and had to be there by 5pm to pick her up or she'd have to spend the night. Our dog looked unhappy to go there and didn't get the 1:1 attention that our Rover dog sitter gave her. Our dog LOVES the Rover sitters so much, it's like she gets to be on vacation too! For our cats, I tried having a neighbor watch my cats while I was gone for a few days and could tell from our security cameras that they didn't feed them at the time I asked or stay very long at all. I ended up driving home 2 days early, because I was too worried about my cats under their care. With Rover, I had a pet/house sitter combo that was perfect. Not only did my cats and dog get to stay together, but my plants and house were taken care of as well. The Rover sitter followed the schedule that my pets were used to and sent me pictures and updates every day! I was stress free on my 2 week vacation in Japan because of her responsive communication plus excellent & genuine care. Every Rover sitter that I have used have there own pets, so they understand how they are a very important part of your family.

Rover is a great way of linking pet sitters, and pet owners together. As a pet sitter, I have met mainly great pet owners, but a couple of bad ones too. On meeting the bad ones (or pets) you are invited to leave reviews on the pets & owners, where I leave full and honest reviews for the next sitter to be aware of the risks. Only the reviews on the pets are public. The reviews on the owners are not available to the sitters, which is questionable, as I have had front door locks (I’ve been locked in) & showers not work in the homes, fire alarms obstructed (illegal in flats), no clean crockery, pots, pans or cutlery to use as it was ALL left out dirty/used (yes everything), all in homes I’ve worked in for whole weekends, which is not suitable and plain disrespectful, and cannot be left on the pets profile. First issue, on raising these issues with Rover, the tone taken was it was my fault for taking on these jobs?! (I’m sorry - I’ll just hop in and test the shower next time?! I’ll give the owner a call & make sure they have done the dishes? 🤣) Second, following up on another bad job just the other day, Rover took it on themselves to change my accurate, yet negative feedback on a pet, to suit themselves, and the owner. So when using this site - please bear in mind that, like any site, the reviews will not be accurate, or changed. I have asked Rover to not change it, as it is accurate, and related to the pet, but advised me that they would still be making the change regardless, so I have asked for my edited review to state that it was changed, and edited by Rover, and if they will not, this will get changed to a 1* to reflect the dishonesty of the business. Not being an American - I will not be calling Rover at their request.

Hello Rachael, thank you for your feedback on our review process. Ultimately, the heart behind our reviews is to give sitters and owners the ability to share their subjective experience. The owners do so by giving an initial review, while sitters do so through their ability to publicly respond to these reviews. We hope you can understand and respect our policies. Please feel free to reach out to our Rover Support Team at 888-453-7889 if you would like further clarification. -Lexie

This company discriminates against individuals who have filed previous complaints by denying them access to their Rover account and intentionally delaying payments to the Boarders. They deliberately shut down accounts of anyone who has filed a complaint or BBB complaint against them. Do not use this company!!! This company as you can see in their response plays the "safety" card whatever that means?? Believe me they do retailate people for posting negative reviews.

A completely stress free pet boarding service from start to finish! The host and her family warmly greeted our senior Doberman into their home and took care of all his needs and more. This was our first time using the Rover service and we'll certainly be back. Easy to register, review potential hosts, set up a meet and greet prior to boarding dates, etc. So much better than the impersonal, often crowded boarding services provided by commercial vendors. Thanks!
