MedPlus FE Full-Electric Bed Package
Love sleeping on this bed - still very comfortable after 8 months (possibly because I got the better mattress: Total Care Cool Gel). The controls are easy to use and reliable. I use the head incline every day but rarely use the knee incline. I love where the head incline fulcrum is located - above my hips. On other beds where it is lower nearer my hips I do not find it as comfortable. I have moved the bed to two different homes which requires removing the headboard, footboard and the long rod which drives the incline mechanism. But the movers had no trouble putting it back together. So why not 5 stars? Because it squeaks getting in or out of bed! Started about one month after assembly or one month after being moved. Med+Mart gave me the name of the manufacturer whom I contacted. They said 'oil the hinges'. That did not help at all. Here is my final solution after many months of trial and error. It involves the small protuberance (about half the size of pea) under the bracket 46 inches from the front edge of the footboard. That bracket joins the top and bottom bed frame supports. The 'half-pea' is hard to spot as it hangs from the top flange and rests against the bottom flange. The gap between the two flanges is a little more than 1mm. Layman solution I got some wooden shims that are used to align door and window frames from Home Depot. With a hammer I jammed the shim into the gap between the two metal flanges. The bottom of the 'half-pea' may end up splitting the shim but this solution did work for a month or two before the squeak came back. In hindsight maybe jamming a metal washer in the gap would have lasted longer? Pro solution I used my car jack under the metal bed frame flange to raise it about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. This widens the gap from 1mm to 2mm. Then I took a jig saw with a metal blade and cut off the 'half-pea'! If you don't support the frame with the car jack it will collapse onto your saw blade making it very hard to remove. This time I used a black plastic composite shim from Home Depot and gently hammered it into the gap. Now remove the car jack. By cutting off the protuberance the bed weight should now be spread over the whole shim preventing the splitting that occurred with the Layman solution. I am not recommending anyone else use this Pro solution as it almost certainly voids this part of the warranty which says "Limited lifetime on welds and Frame." But no regrets here: I value silence over warranty!
