I tried to open an account with them and they couldn't open it because they couldn't verify the phone number I've had for 20+ years. I gave them 2 other numbers I have on my phone and they couldn't use any of them. It was essentially impossible to open an account with them.

I received repeated texts saying someone was trying to access the account.I replied each time it wasn't me. Happened again a few days later.I called and assured them again I was not accessing my account and thought it resolved. Last week I got a letter which revealed they had allowed someone who isn't me to withdraw my money and close my account. It wasn't much money, at least...less than 100. Beware!

I would give them a zero star rating if…
I would give them a zero star rating if I could. We have numerous CDs with Marcus, when one matured, we decided to close it and transfer the funds to a linked account. Due to the size of the CD, we were not allowed to do this online, but rather had to call in. We called in, and the gentleman we spoke to told us that my husband needed to change his phone, as he could not use the same phone number as my profile. He insisted on changing that phone number. He then proceeded with closing the CD, which happened almost instantaneously. However, the money was not transferred to the linked account. Instead, the next day, we received a few emails saying that the transfer was denied. We then began the headache of having to deal with Marcus fraud department. By the end of the phone call, I ended up with a person telling me that they could not tell me their supervisor’s name, and that their supervisor does not speak to customers. We have to wait 1 to 3 business days for them to put the money back into the CD, and then we can try to close it again! This was nothing that we had done wrong, and yet we are the ones being punished. They are holding our money hostage. I can assure you, as each CD matures, that money will be removed from Marcus, and we will never ever do business with them again. If you’re considering doing business with them, I suggest you don’t!

I am a big deposit in certificates with Marcus. I am a saver. I have a checking account with a restrictive member credit union and transfer money to Marcus to my savings account. I hve five c/ds. They have renewed as instructed. I transfer funds into my savings account by using he automated clearing house method.
I got an e mail about possible attempted fraud on my account. I instructed to freeze all transaction and this was done. After several telephone calls and letters the freeze was removed and things, hopefully are back to normal. Marcus appears to be very strict on opening accounts and continuing business. I see in reading all the bad reviews a trend of micky mouse depositors who want to play bank/customer office. They do bizarre transactions and go back and forth with money in and money out, oay here, pay there. Marcus has a duty and legal obligation to protect depositors and they review their deposit agreements regularly. I read them and understand them. Customers put money in and then want to take it out. That's why there are penalties for early withdrawals. Today there is sophisticated money fraud everythere. Its the cusstomers responsibility to keep up with their accounts and know what they are doing. Marcus is a big time lender. They do not bother with checking accounts and have gotten out of the credit card business. People like to play games with banking and it results in these negative reviews. I compare themto restaurant reviews and those of food. Eat this, don't eat that. Go there and don't go there.
I think Marcus wants serious depositors and not nickle and dimers. Res Ipso Loquitur

One of the least competent Customer…
One of the least competent Customer Service teams I’ve dealt with. They are not very articulate and they also make very little effort to help you and will give up very quickly. I had to ask the customer service representative to stay on hold while we waited for the other bank because he seemed like he was in a rush and then when we got disconnected instead of trying to call me back or reconnect, he just declined my transfer request and now I had to restart the entire process which is taking another several days for the money to come back to my account and then re-initiate

Disaster
Everything! This was a disaster. It came in my account was locked. I called I-855-7730-7283.
The CS spoke to had a strong accent and was very hard to understand. I entered codes 6 times and it wouldn't accept any of them. I CS man said wait and hour and try again. That is no answer. So now I have a large amount of money that I can't access. What do I do? I will have to call the Goldman Sachs line to see if they can get money. It also said I could start a chat, but that didn't work either.
