I closed my Kohl's account in January…
I closed my Kohl's account in January 2019 by paying my past due amount with a 3 party collections company. I was informed the account was closed and nothing else was owed. I received an email from Kohls on January 24th, 2020 in regards to a Kohls Charge Card billing error that will be corrected, which raised a red flag since I closed out my Kohls Card. When I contacted the Kohls Customer Care department I was transferred 2 times before speaking with a 3 person in the collections department. The collections representative started to explain to me that an amount of $148.77 is still owed on my account and how I would like to pay for this? When I asked where this charge came from, the collections rep had to place me on hold for close to 5 minutes before coming back on the line to explain, I only paid 60% of the original amount owed with Kohls and that I would still be responsible for the other 40%. When I asked why I was never informed of this and if this would affect my credit score the only answers I received was, "I don't know", or "You will need to call the 3rd party to understand why this happened" or "Kohls does not speak with the credit bureaus". I requested then to speak with a "supervisor" who said the same thing the first collection agent said. The supervisor said she would place me on the "Do Not Contact" list so I wont be contacted again. I asked how placing me on the Do Not Call list is a resolution? Since it sounds like Kohl's is trying to sweep any issue under the rug and pretend like nothing happened. Why would they not? It's not THEIR credit score being affected. First this is an issue with Kohls so I am not too sure why they would try to direct to me a 3rd party collections, that has to do with the amount owed under the KOHL'S account. I should have the faith that Kohls will be able to take action and provide me with a resolution since this is an error on their end. Secondly, both the collections rep and the collections "supervisor" both lied to me saying they have no control over the credit bureaus when I have an email that says in writing, "Kohls has updated any related credit bureau reporting". To also have a supervisor turn Kohls mistake around try to blame it on me for not knowing that I was only paying of 60% of a past due amount is ridiculous as well. How would I have known the balance I was paying was less than what I actually owed when NO ONE told me any different. Why would Kohls submit a past due amount balance owed to a 3rd party collections to allow this collections company to only charge me 60% of what is owed? This is an issues between Kohls and the 3rd party collections company. I do not understand why Kohl's would leave an amount owed on an account after they received the settlement notification from the 3rd party company? Kohls had the opportunity to reach out to me by phone and email, never once did I ever receive anything. I did my part to pay off any balanced owed so that Kohls no longer as any outstanding balance. Why would Kohls NOT contact someone who owes money for over a year? Why did it take over a year for me to find out a balance is remaining? Why would Kohls think putting me on a Do Not Call List would be a resolution? I want the $148.77 to be covered/paid/waived by Kohl's since this is an issue with them and the 3rd party collections. I want a confirmation letter from Kohl's showing they have reached out to the credit bureaus about their error and there will not be any impact to my credit score. I also want a confirmation letter from Kohl's about the $148.77 no longer showing as unpaid balance and the amount has been covered/paid/waived.
