I bought points with Holiday Inn Club about ten years ago. This has been one of the biggest financial failures I have ever had. Do NOT buy into this club. Many locations are not desirable (Multiple in Texas, Georgia, Vermont, Illinois, Missouri, none in Hawaii or California, for example) it’s difficult to reserve rooms at the few resorts that are popular, maintenance fees are outrageous and keep increasing, and there are fees for everything from booking your vacation to extending expiring points. Worst of all, a year’s worth of points (a week stay at most resorts) ends up only equating to approx 36k points with IHG. That’s barely enough to book one or two nights at most hotels. I HATE Holiday Inn Vacation Club and am informing everyone I know to stay clear of this timeshare!

Buyer beware
Buyer beware! Holiday Inn Vacation Clubs is a scam. They fool you into an agreement to pay annual fees, literally forever. They do not consider medical or financial hardships. All they care about is trying to get you to sign another agreement to pay them more every year for as long as you live. I do not know how they have not been shut down.

Bait and switch—stay away!
Be aware that it’s not as it’s presented to be… we bought 100,000 points and it’s barely enough to take one trip a year (not what we were told/sold on). We were toured in a signature suite and told recon difference was stainless steel appliances—very not true. The seller kept showing us personal pictures of the Marco island resort —we will never be able to book there because it books so far in advance, and we are not signature members. RCI exchange is ok if you don’t want an all inclusive. If you do, then the actual hotel usually has better deals after the all inclusive fees are added in. The IHG exchange value is horrendous. We wanted to stay at a simple holiday inn express in SC to watch our niece in a college game and it would have used 300,000 points for TWO nights.
We asked about all the negative reviews and they said not enough happy people share reviews. I can agree that happens often but should have listened to my gut because the negative reviews are spot on!!
Lastly, since purchasing, 2 out of 4 of us have been diagnosed with celiac. These resorts are NOT allergy friendly at all!! The booking agents are also not knowledgeable of the disease itself or the resorts. We really wish we had bought a time share with Hyatt or Disney because they are sensitive and knowledgeable to allergies.
STAY AWAY!!

not as expected
We are retirees living on social security and do not have the money to keep spending on something that is unusable. Now we are expecting Holiday Inn Vacation Club to do the right thing and cancel our purchase since we were clearly misled and taken advantage of by their staff. Holiday Inn Vacation Club staff pressured us into making this purchase without giving us the information to make the decision. We now have a “membership” that does not meet our vacation needs or expectations. In the last two and a half years we have spent over $3600 on payments and maintenance fees for nothing. After trying for the past 2 years to use our points, we have been unsuccessful because of the following: We do not have enough points to use anywhere more than a day or two. After we were told we did not need more than 30,000 points at the time of our purchase. We could not rent them out because we did not have enough points to rent. We could not figure out how to transfer them to our IHG membership as they told us we could. Since purchasing we have made many attempts to understand all the paperwork that we were given. We believe that we were pressured into buying this even though these shysters, that we can name, knew that we would not be able to use this unless we purchased more points. There were huge details omitted when they showed us all the beautiful places that we can go to with the points we have. Being on a fixed income, we are retired and living on social security and spending more money on this is not possible.

I had booked a holiday inn Gatwick and…
I had booked a holiday inn Gatwick and I have been misquoted prices on parking at the hotel on multiple occassions. I’ve now made 3 phone calls trying to resolve and gain clarity and over 30mins on the phone connected to an agent with a bad line, it’s still not resolved and unclear..

Watch out for this place
After receiving 0 information on what was needed to check in for the tour we were told that they needed our ID and credit card to check in. I had already supplied this to registration when I checked into the resort. I have heard that these high pressure tactics are to hold document hostage and I wasn't releasing my cards so they wouldn't check me in. It cost me the full price which was twice what it cost on Expedia.

Helt forfærdelig koncept
Helt forfærdelig koncept - de lyver, bondefanger og sælger en vare de ikke har - hold jer langt væk fra dem a overvejer at stævne dem ene og alene af den grund, at de har talt usandt hele vejen igennem.

I would like to express our extreme…
I would like to express our extreme frustration and dissatisfaction with the experience we had with the Club Vacations tour in Myrtle Beach.
First, this has been a bad trip in terms of the weather (tropical storm in the area) and the hotel staff did nothing to make our stay better. Although they charged the standard resort fees, all the activities were canceled due to weather, the pool and hot tub were closed. Room service was very limited.
The tour staff asked us last minute to change the time to an earlier slot which we accommodated despite some undesirable change of our plans.
Our tour presentation was not professional. It was in a crowded area with the loud conversation at a table right next to us which made it more difficult to follow our tour staff.
The tour staff had a strong dialect, with a very peculiar pronunciation which was very difficult to follow even though I am fully fluent in English after 30 years living in this country. He did not speak clearly, swallowed words and didn’t look very motivated to sell us anything. I kept asking him to repeat what he said.
My wife speaks good enough English and gets around easily in common situations. Sometimes she could not understand the sales person either and I was helping her a bit. It was not a direct translation but my commentary of what was said with my thoughts.
The salesperson clearly wanted to go home due to the bad weather which was getting worse by the minute and he clearly looked for an excuse to stop the presentation “not waste our time and let him go to his family” as he mentioned twice.
He found an excuse in our conversation between me and my wife by calling it "translation" which in reality was mostly my commentary on what was said and not a translation as such, which they don't allow as it turned out.
After one hour of presentation when my very patient little daughter wanted to go to the restroom the sales person took advantage of this break and asked his manager to cancel the presentation.
This was unacceptable and unprofessional in my view and reflected lack of motivation and ability to sell the product rather than lack of English skills on our side.
Then we received a follow up email from Holiday Inn Club Vacations with the payment confirmation for the full cost of the hotel stay (extra $529) which was like adding insult to the injury.
We spent 2 hours of our time on the tour with traffic (20-30 min drive one way), had to change our plans last minute to accommodate schedule change request, had to struggle for 60 minutes to listen to the poor quality presentation in a very noisy place, with a hard to follow accent and difficult pronunciation.
In the end not only we wasted time on the timeshare presentation but also had to drive from home for 8 hours and pay $530 extra for a useless stay, did not get the promised $100 promotional discount and 10000 IHG points.
Frankly, having had a very long relationship and loyalty with IHG most recently as a Platinum member (earlier as an Ambassador) I expected better from this brand.
Thanks to this bad experience I will think twice before staying at IHG hotels ever again.
P.S. After sharing our frustration on the phone with the customer service, I did get a follow up email and another customer service call with a $229 partial refund so I am adding another star for mitigating our pain a little. Still a far cry from what it would take to correct the situation.
