Staff are friendly and helpful but without the resources to actually help! 5 stars to the staff but unfortunately they had no power or couldn't achieve my request because they weren't authorised to do so. 0 Stars for the company and their policies for making my life hard and making me wait almost 2 weeks for me to access the money which was locked in my account because I failed to put my log in details correctly! P.s im still locked out my account and waiting for my money to be transferred to a different bank account! Sorry but this has caused a whole lot of grief and running around for something that you would need to at least have fixed within 24 hours! So try not to lock yourself out of this bank if you don't want to be stuffed around for a week.

Credit cards & PINS twice mailed out together!!!
I have been a customer of CUA (now GSB) since 1968.
But it has deteriorated in it's service in the past decade and it's security measures are now really worrying! I plan to find another bank.
In April this year I received a new credit card in the mail and AT THE SAME TIME IN MY MAILBOX WITH IT the envelope containing the PIN!
Yesterday I received another credit card in the mail (GSB has changed their card provider) AND AT THE SAME TIME IN THE MAILBOX WITH IT was the envelope containg the PIN!!!
And banks tell customers to be very careful with their PINS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why does GSB even bother with a separate envelope?

Just idiotic
Just idiotic! Blocked my account that hadn’t even been used! I called, all they said was my account was blocked due to their terms and policies! I said ok what term or condition did I breach? The woman said I don’t have that information! Then I said well put me through to someone who knows? She hung up! Just incompetent and lazy!

You're just a number.
The tellers on the frontline have always been friendly and professional.
They are slaves.
I've been with CUA and Great Southern Bank for 30 plus years.
I have paid thousands and thousands of dollars in interest.
Recently I was desperate to withdraw money out of a term deposit early.
I had medical bills to pay, outstanding bills and no money for food.
All of the frontline reps that I spoke to were sympathetic about my request. One rep was brutally rude to me.
I had zero support from the powers to be. They simply denied my request and left it to the frontline staff to tell me.
I forwarded evidence online to support my claim.
I exposed my vulnerability. They could see I had no money, other than in my term deposit.
I had absolutely no loans or credit cards.
It was my money, and they denied me access to a partial payment.
The care factor is actually zero.
I can't wait to move away from Great Southern bank.
I have empathy for the front-line staff. Even though the reality is that the priority is to hook you in.
My advice to young people. Do your homework and understand exactly what you're signing yourself up for when you borrow money.
It's easy to get caught up in the emotional side of buying your first home.
The powers that make the decisions.
Sorry but your value as a human being.
Is zero.

Absolute disgrace
Sent my spending money to GSB yesterday. Needed to get dinner for the kids.
Called at 6:01pm to say that I couldn't use Google pay or send via Pay ID/Osko, could I please Pay ID to another account? The guy on the phone said that he processed it and just wait a little while before trying. Called back at 7:31 at the takeaway place, Pay ID still locked by the bank but the lady on the phone said everyone went home and she would get on the phone to them right after the call and get them to ring me.
I asked her how are you going to call them if they've gone home? She said that she wasn't being completely honest and they'll call me tomorrow. She realised she messed up, I could tell in her voice, so I let her go.
2pm now and still no phone call, Pay ID still doesn't work. If it was just me, I wouldn't care so much as I'm not a get-angry person. But my kids were affected, what a disgrace, I'm furious.
Last conversation I will ever have with them.

I will not be continuing with Great…
I will not be continuing with Great Southern Bank after my experience with their home loan services.
Throughout my time with GSB, I encountered constant issues with payment transfers being bounced back. Every time I raised these issues, the response was to blame external banks, despite the fact that Great Southern Bank was the only common link across all failed transactions. No real investigation was done, no accountability was taken, and the repeated disruptions to my payments were simply brushed off.
Worse, GSB’s customer service processes are clearly designed to deflect, not resolve, serious concerns. Despite multiple attempts to raise formal complaints, I was not listened to and my situation was not taken seriously. I was treated as a problem to be managed, rather than a customer to be helped.
This combination of poor internal policies, lack of responsibility, and refusal to properly escalate or investigate serious service failures was a major factor in me being forced to sell my home — an outcome that could have been avoided with proper support. It also had a devastating effect on my credit rating, with long-term financial consequences.
GSB's handling of these issues shows clear flaws in their:
Transaction and payment processing systems (unable to ensure reliable and timely processing).
Dispute resolution processes (more focused on avoiding blame than resolving problems).
Customer communication and accountability (refusing to seriously engage with formal complaints).
Given the importance of reliability and support when it comes to home loans, I would strongly caution anyone against banking with Great Southern Bank. Once you are locked into a loan with them, there is very little genuine support if things go wrong.
