PetPlan has a Plan!
PetPlan has a Plan!
Been member of PetPlan for 4 years and have had opportunity to use it 4 times. This is what i experienced;
1 = If the form is correctly filled in and all the i's are dotted and the t's crossed; and it is not an excluded procedure than you will get a refund of up to but no more than 80% or less depending what is included and excluded. BUT;
2 = The refund will be in the form a cheque which means;
- it has to be 'raised'
- than it needs to be posted
- than it needs to be delivered
- than it needs to be taken to the bank
- than it needs to clear
Although PetPlan withdraw the monthly payment from your account the categorically refuse to refund electronically. So no matter what, after the stress of your puppy or pussy needing medical attention than you have all the extra work of having the vet fill in a special form and than you fill out more info and than all the running about with the cheque. I avoid going to my bank like a bad cold; the only time i do is to go to the teller machine to deposit my PetPlan cheque.
3 = PetPlan believe that they can increase your payment by over 85% without explanation or due process. Our two pets cost us monthly each $67.92 that is a total of $125.84 per month making it $1510.08. They increased the regular deduction to $126.89 per pet per month making a total yearly cost of $3045.28. That is an increase of 201.66%. Not even our politician would allow themselves such a pay raise. No explanation, no reason.
Shame PetPlan, Shame!

Can't deal with a simple paperwork task …
Can't deal with a simple paperwork task so hoping I don't need to make an actual claim. Will be looking elsewhere once renewal is up.

customers service representative, MARK
I have not purchased 2 dog plan yet but will the next month.
I do want to leave a review for a customers service representative, MARK. Here's a copy/paste of what I wrote to him after "interrogating" him for 15 minutes.
"Mark, you revived my lost hope for OUTSTANDING customers service. I am grateful for your time, knowledge and care.
Thank you, Konstantin"

Thanks Stacy.
I adopted a tiny, rescue, poodle, whom we have found is prone to broken bones. I got your insurance after the fist break, little knowing she would break a second leg a few months later. Stacy was so empathetic, and helpful in making sure I had all the correct paperwork submitted and expiditing my claim. She mafe a stressful dituation much easier to cope with. Thank you.

I’m thankful for Petplan insurance
I’m thankful for Petplan insurance. I have 3 rescues and Petplan has helped me give my furbabies the quality care they deserve. Insurance is something you pay for and pray you never use. You have to pay for car insurance and chances are you’re never going to file a claim. Cable TV/Internet and or cell phone bills cost more than pet insurance.
Petplan also pays for medications and tests. My Daisy is diabetic and Peggy Sue has Cushings and renal failure costing hundreds of dollars monthly for life. You won’t tuck away enough money to cover the unexpected. Filing a claim could not be easier with the Petplan App., answer a few questions, date, amount, pet’s ailment, take a photo of paid invoice, done.
If you get insurance and never have to use it, you are truly blessed. Can you live with the regret if you don’t have insurance and you can’t keep your beloved pet healthy and happy?

Great service but underwriter change made it more expensive
I've been with Pet Plan for at least 8 years. They were great when my big boxer had cancer and needed surgery and all kinds of treatments. I exhausted my annual limit that year and Pet Plan covered everything with no hassle. I've also had good experience with Pet Plan for other claims for my other dogs. My claims are usually paid within two weeks with no hassles. I have not had problems with communications, as they contact me whenever they want more info from my vet.
I do like submitting claims through the new app in my phone. Claims get paid even faster (5 days!). My only complaint is that the app divides claims by invoice even if there are several invoices for the same claim. Then I receive a check for each invoice- seems inefficient. Submitting via email results in one check for all the invoices together, but is slower. I also wish they had direct deposit for claim payment.
I have been loyal. However, Pet Plan recently changed underwriter- leading to changes in claim deductibles. It has gotten more expensive- higher deductibles for the same premium. I recently covered the deductible for my older mastiff-mix and have been submitting claims on the same issue with no problem from Pet Plan. My previous per condition deductible was $200 and now it is $400 for the same (similar) annual premium under the new underwriter. I stay with Pet Plan out of loyalty and convenience, and they still have great customer service. As long as they don't present hassles I'll stick with them.
I think an annual deducible per pet might be better than a deductible per claim.
In the meantime, keep this in mind as you shop around. I rated 4 stars because of the changes to the deductibles, whereas I would have rated 5 stars before the underwriter change. Service has been great in spite of the change.

Thank you for your review Dina. Your comments about the app and the need for direct deposit are very helpful.

If you’re thinking about using …
If you’re thinking about using Petplan…STEER CLEAR. If your experience is anything like mine, you’ll faithfully pay your premiums only to be denied when you submit your claim.
Here’s my story:
My dog had surgery, which was around $1,000. I told Petplan before the surgery the name of the clinic and the date that my dog (Champ) was having surgery. After about a month, I didn’t hear anything from Petplan, so I called them to see what was going on. They told me that I needed to contact the clinic and request the records. I thought it was strange that they didn’t do that themselves or inform me that they need additional information. So I thought, no big deal. Maybe it was an oversight.
So, I called the clinic and asked them to send the records to Petplan. When I called Petplan back to ensure that they had received Champ’s surgery records, I was then told that they would need his medical records for the past two years. Once again, that was something I felt Petplan should be requesting, not me. So I had to take more time out of my schedule to call the clinic again and request the additional records.
I made sure that the clinic had sent the records to Petplan. After going several days without hearing anything from Petplan, I called them again. At that point, I learned that Petplan had denied my claim because of “pre-existing” conditions. I looked through the records and the “pre-existing” conditions that they claim were not anywhere to be found.
The reason I purchased the policy was to protect Champ from any medical issues that might arise. However, the exact opposite happened. Petplan has not only asserted that they will not cover Champ’s surgery, but they have also given me the run-around throughout the process.
I wasted my time following up and collecting medical records. And I wasted my money by paying premiums, only to be denied. So I have a $1,000 surgery that not covered and I’m further in the hole for the hundreds of dollars I paid to Petplan. I cancelled my Petplan “insurance policy” that day.
I would advise anyone that’s reading this to NEVER use Petplan. I don’t want you to go through the same experience that I had.
