Leaking refrigerator, dishwasher installation incorrect, roof framing nails pertruding, leaking roof, windows are cheap, doors are cheap, cheap carpet and padding laid over debris, kitchen faucet put on wrong, etcetera etcetera etcetera. These houses are thrown together by cheap unqualified labor.

D.R Hot Mess homes
D.R. Horton homes are very poorly built. Not one part of the house seems to follow the actual plans correctly. If you take measurements throughout the house, you’ll notice that nothing is aligned properly.
The paint feels watered down, the walls chip very easily, and the toilets and fixtures are extremely cheap. Everything seems low quality, and the houses are thrown together like instant grits.
It’s unfortunate to spend this much money building a home only to end up with something that feels poorly constructed. There are items missing from the house, and the home isn’t even four months old yet and shingles are already lifting.
If you ride through the neighborhood, you’ll notice that even the same model homes are inconsistent. Some have three exterior lights while others only have two, which clearly shows they are not building these homes according to the same plans. Some houses are even missing shutters altogether. It’s honestly a shame.
The workmanship is pathetic at its finest. It feels like they have just anybody building these homes, with little to no certification, training, or attention to detail. D.R. Horton, at least hire people who actually care about the quality of the work they are doing. Overall, it’s a total disappointment. Vancleave MS Hot mess community for sure.

D.R Horton is arrogant, lawless, and dishonest
D.R. Horton is a dishonest, lawless company that cannot be trusted. I was going to buy a new house in Heber City, Utah and I entered into a contract while the house was under construction. After the sales agreement was signed, D.R. Horton started sending me numerous addenda that were mostly senseless, inaccurate, and redundant. I told the sales agent, Joel Ames, that I was not comfortable with the addenda and explained the errors. He changed some items, but kept insisting that I sign the addenda or else D.R. Horton would not "go forward" with the sale. I told him (and he knew I was a lawyer) that we had a fully executed sales agreement and I was not required to sign anything. I explained I had the right of specific performance (meaning I could sue to enforce the fully executed contract). I explained that Jordanelle Ridge's organizing documents had been rendered unlawful by Utah House Bill 217 about a year ago, and yet, Jordanelle Ridge never revised the documents to comport with the law. I also learned that the government and Jordanelle Ridge were disputing terms for the government to fully authorize the Jordanelle Ridge development. D.R. Horton did not seem to want a lawyer with my level of knowledge (including reading the bill that directly affected the development) to be in the area. Behind my back, Joel (or someone) told the D.R. Horton financing agent to stop working on my loan (a D.R.Horton loan agent told me this in a text message). So D.R. Horton insisted that I sign addenda that legally I did not have to sign, then interfered with my financing for so long that I could not meet the financing contingency. I thought of suing but then decided I wanted nothing to do with D.R. Horton after reading about so many new-construction complaints online. Then D.R. Horton sent a letter to me stating that I was unable to obtain financing - this is false and I could easily finance this home as it was way below my means. I corrected this nonsense and I am very glad I did not buy the house. I can only imagine the forthcoming disputes in Jordanelle Ridge, the lawsuits to come, and the very unhappy homeowners who have yet to learn what I know. This company is arrogant and treats customers with no regard for clearly established contract law. D.R. Horton is a disgrace to Texas.

Bought the house last year about nine…
Bought the house last year about nine months ago,The house itself is in pretty good buy.
My issue with DR Horton is with the carpeting in the house. I use a walker and the thresholds did not hold up. In our previous home I had the walker the and the carpeting was fine. I have 2 cats and Hortons guy said the cats caused it. The carpeting installer kind of snickered. They attempted to fix the carpeting, about 4 times. To no avail. So one final meeting where that brought a piece of paper that said no warranty on carpe. My question is if there was warranty why did they even attempt a repair. I spent a number of years running complex bi business and many time had to fix things that we didn’t cause. It’s called Goodwill. There fix created ill will. There were also times were I refused to do anything. I replaced the carpeting at me expense today. I still think Dr Horton is probably a good company. Their minions just didn’t right thing. So when anybody ask me about the house. What’s the first thing I tell them. Even it’s a new house get it inspected before signing up. I guess DR. Thinks I’m done with them but I’m not,,,,,

My Best New Construction Home Purchase
1. Sales Agent Experience (Stephanie Lang)
Our Sales Agent in Blackwood Farms, Oklahoma, Stephanie Lang, was absolutely exceptional in every way. It was incredibly helpful that she had relocated from Southern California, near where I was moving from, which gave her an intuitive understanding of what would matter most to me in a new location.
From the very beginning, she identified the perfect lot for us. Even though we explored all available options, we ultimately chose exactly what she originally recommended—her insight was spot on.
This move represented a major life transition for me, not only selling our home but also retiring from our business. Stephanie was knowledgeable, patient, and able to answer every question with confidence and care. By the time we moved in, I truly felt like part of the D.R. Horton family.
At my 30-day mark, I can say I could not be happier with my home or the entire experience. Stephanie is a consummate professional and an incredible asset. She truly goes above and beyond—recognition for her work would be well deserved.
2. Construction Superintendent Transition (Brett)
While Brett was not the original construction superintendent for the majority of our home, he took over prior to our final walkthrough—and we are so grateful he did.
Brett immediately demonstrated professionalism, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to quality. His ability to step in and ensure everything was completed to a high standard gave us great confidence in our home.
He is clearly dedicated to his work and represents D.R. Horton extremely well. We greatly appreciate his efforts in bringing our home to completion.
3. Home Orientation / Walkthrough (Brett)
Brett conducted our new home orientation and final walkthrough, and his thoroughness was outstanding. He took the time to carefully explain every detail, ensuring we fully understood what would be addressed, corrected, or completed.
He also walked us through the warranty binder in a clear and organized way, which gave us confidence in knowing how to maintain our home and who to contact if anything arises.
Because of Brett’s professionalism and attention to detail, we feel very confident in both our home and the support behind it.
5. Home Readiness at Closing / Move-In
On move-in day, everything Brett had identified during the walkthrough had been completed. The home was in excellent condition, and we were—and still are—thrilled.
Choosing D.R. Horton Oklahoma was absolutely the right decision for our investment and our future.
6. Overall Experience
We truly could not have had a better experience. Even now, it still feels like a dream—we often find ourselves pinching ourselves.
The entire process was smooth from start to finish, with no issues or unexpected challenges. We are extremely pleased with every aspect of our homebuying journey.
7. Likelihood to Recommend
We enthusiastically recommend D.R. Horton to everyone we know. Our experience has been so positive that we sincerely hope other members of our family will choose to move into this community as well.

My experience dealing with DR Horton in…
My experience dealing with DR Horton in the Alabama area has been extremely frustrating and unacceptable. For the first three years in my home, we dealt with ongoing issues that were never properly resolved. After selling the home, we discovered that a separate tank had never been connected, proving the problem existed from the beginning—not something that developed over time.
When this was brought to their attention, instead of taking accountability, there were attempts to explain it away as something that occurred over the years. That is simply not accurate and shows a serious lack of responsibility and proper oversight.
Dealing with representatives in the Montgomery, Alabama area only added to the frustration. The level of professionalism and communication was not what any homeowner should expect. No one should feel dismissed or talked to in a manner that lacks respect—especially when raising legitimate concerns.
This is not about personal feelings—this is about accountability and doing right by customers, including veterans and military families who expect and deserve better.
To anyone considering buying in the Alabama area, I strongly encourage you to inspect everything thoroughly, document everything, and do not assume issues have been properly handled.
Overall, this experience raises serious concerns about quality, transparency, and customer care in the Alabama region, and how this entire deal was handled.

Degradation in Quality & Deplorable Customer Service
This is our 2nd DR Horton Home. The first built in 2000. There has been such a decline in quality and customer service. The decline in quality does not include design, that is very good, but cutting corners to maximize profits is evident. When you purchase a half million dollar home, you expect attention to detail. Items like why don’t you put lights in closets or over the spare bathroom shower? Flimsy plumbing connections, low quality fixtures and missed trim/caulking etc. Then when you get to post sales customer service; oh my! Were are four months post closing and post pre-closing inspection and ONLY one item has been addressed. Even after repeated filing with the drhorton dot com/warranty, all we get is lip service.
