DR Horton is the worst builder. We signed for our house in 2020 and it was completed 4 months behind schedule. Even with the extra time they were given, we have been here 11 months and we have not had one day when our home has not needed repair or under construction. It has been one issue after another. DRH as “America’s Home Builder” is a disgrace to America. Our home is made with cheap materials and has uneven floors. • The HVAC filter was blocked by a main beam when we moved in and then the HVAC drain-off leaked into our hallway ceiling during a freeze. • The power goes in and out with various electrical issues. • Flat paint in a color they no longer sell on all the walls. Paint completely rubs off if any marks are attempted to be gently wiped off. • A retaining wall in our backyard with stone & concrete stairs has collapsed & been repaired 5 times now. • The backyard has been full of deep divots, a large sinkhole, and floods terribly when it rains. • The Whirlpool refrigerator we won in a Holiday drawing is still not working correctly. • Concrete continues to come off our foundation and driveway. • Moisture in the windowless bathrooms would shut off our power, so exhaust fans in bathrooms were replaced by less powerful ones that do not work, as condensation now drips off them. • The shower leaked behind the drywall. • The gas oven had to be replaced as it was leaking gas. • Grout was cracking (it may already have leaked behind the wall) and crumbling off our bathroom shower& tub in both bathrooms. • The flooring has had to be repaired many times due to holes in vinyl. • The doorknobs keep coming loose and/or fall off. • The cabinets and island counter were loose/falling off the wall. • The garage has a large crack across the floor. • We had large gaps under the thresholds of our outside doors. This is just to name some of the repairs that have been made or still need to be made on our home. It seems as if every time a contractor comes in for a repair, another issue or damage ends up being created. • Contractors have left dirt handprints on our walls for over 6 months now that cannot be scrubbed off since it takes off the paint • holes were left in the drywall of our walls for four months, • there is a hole in our island countertop from a contractor • we had a hole in the siding on the back of the house from another contractor • holes in our vinyl floor from other contractors, • DRH Contractors have left beer bottles and scrap concrete in our yard. Between contractors just not showing up when scheduled, not finishing the repair, and/or creating another problem or more damage, we have been in a constant state of repair since we moved in. . They have been here over 26 times and the house is still in disrepair. We have property drainage issues and they have not fixed the problem at all. They came and added dirt to stop flooding? Now we have an AC unit that sits in water after a storm and extra dirt that covers our foundation up over the brick to make water come inside our home after a storm. A new sinkhole has been created and the replaced stairs that have cracked yet again. The last DRH communication stated this was up to “owner maintenance”. DRH and their contractors seem to try to drag out and put off any claims so that when their cheap repair eventually falls apart, it is after the warranty has expired and you must pay for it to be replaced yourself. I am not sure who the city inspectors were for this home, but they did a terrible job. Some of the neighbors have had major problems that they have ended up fixing themselves because dealing with DRH is such an endless battle that does not go anywhere. Buying your first home is supposed to be an exciting experience, especially a new one. This has been nothing but a huge disappointment, a stressful burden, and a complete nightmare. We do not ever want to own another home after this experience. Please do not buy a DR Horton home. Run as fast as you can. I pray I can save another new homeowner from making the same mistake I have made.

Find another builder if you are located in central Ohio! Please take my advice on this matter. Buying a DR Horton house started out well and good. We worked with a pleasant sales representative and a house with a fixed price, a welcome result to the used-home bidding wars. The downside was that the house we chose was already in construction and all design decisions had been previously made (even though it was only rough-framed with no mechanicals when we went into contract). We were not able to choose or change anything whatsoever - not a single fixture, not a single color. Shortly after entering into a contract with DR Horton, the salesperson quit and the new salesperson was extremely unprofessional, in fact he was confrontational with me for no reason whatsoever, even on the first phone call he and I had. Maybe it was because I was using a 3rd party lender and not DHI mortgage, DR Horton’s mortgage company? Regardless, as the home progressed to completion, the fit and finish was disappointing to watch as it turned out to be mediocre at best. A week before closing, DR Horton scheduled an "orientation" meeting which turned into a “punch-list generating” meeting. There were so many things wrong, I felt the need to hire a third-party inspector just in case I missed something – and sure enough, even more issues were identified by the inspector, including a handful of issues on the roof which I had obviously not been on. DR Horton was not happy about me having an inspector. There were dozens of incomplete and poorly or incorrectly installed items, both inside and out of this house. DR Horton’s subcontractors are likely the cheapest out there, so when you're building about 70 homes in the same area with one PM running the entire lot, the build quality of each house will for likely suffer. Furthermore, the quality of the selected fixtures and cabinetry were horrific in this $600K house, truly all builder-grade. Nothing like having relatively nice quartz countertops sitting on top of the inexpensive builder-grade cabinets. I should also make mention of the seemingly random and non-standard framing whereas many studs were not located on 16” centers – because we all know the cost of lumber has skyrocketed but I think they may have saved, what, a dozen studs in the house by creating non-standard cavities? All that being said, the tipping point was when the local VP of sales whom I had never previously heard of showed up at the house while my wife and I had been reviewing punch list correction status less than a week before closing. This VP tells me that we shouldn’t be at the house without a DR Horton representative, keeping in mind that we would stop by the house at least 2-3 times a week to watch the build progress over the 4 months it took to go from rough-frame to almost complete. I reminded her that I was under contract to purchase said house, had secured said contract with a down payment and furthermore, the house is and always was completely unlocked with no “no trespassing” signs placed anywhere inside or outside of the property. In fact, on this particular day, we arrived to one of the garage doors being wide open with the front door also being unlocked. At the end of the day, I was able to get out of the contract with DR Horton and I purchased a different house, built by a more reputable builder in a more desirable location. Good riddance to DR Horton!!

Our D.R. Horton home is 10 yrs old, just out of warranty. We have owned it here in southern Az. for 4 yrs. I'm 68 and have owned 6 homes. Never had so many problems with a home as this one. Immediately upon moving in noticed the roof tiles were installed improperly and had to have repaired, Inspection noticed cracked roof trusses that were overlooked. They repaired under warranty. Both bathroom sinks have had a foul odor coming from them. We bought new sinks and cleaned the plumbing underneath. It was fine for a couple months and the odor has returned. Guessing some kind of venting or installation problem. Still unresolved. All the water lines run above the garage in the attic space. Twice in 6 months we have had plumbing failures with extensive water damage to sheetrock ceiling, walls and woodwork. We are in the process of having all the PEX connections redone by qualified plumbers. They had the HVAC system wired into the garage outlets and we kept blowing breakers. Had to have an electrician come out and run a separate line for the HVAC system. I would seriously research other builders before building or purchasing a D.R. Horton home.

Dr Horton is the largest builder for a reason. As a plumber I was impressed with their quality of work, and their customer service was incredible! They aren’t a custom home builder, so if you’re going to build with them, don’t have unrealistic expectation and you’ll be impressed!

We were looking at purchasing a home in FL. We went and visited D.R. Horton and there happened to be one that was already in the building stages that we were told was available. We started to fill out all the paperwork to ensure we were qualified for the home. We were told that once the HVAC rough-in was completed, we could go under contract (probably about 4-6 weeks from when we were there). We got the preapproval through their lender and then the downhill slide started. First because they ordered everything "4 months ago" we couldn't change anything, including adding 2 outlets. When we visited the house there was clearly issues with the way the concrete was poured in the house and the front pillars were crooked. Fast forward 2 weeks, I filed a complaint on their website and received a call from a gal and the site supervisor. I was told that they can't provide blue prints of the home because that is their agreement with the city/county, etc. to build (hmm). The sale consultant at the location emailed me a week or so later and told me that they now have changed to when the A/C is installed as to when you can go under contract. Which if you know about construction is pretty much at the end of the home build. Then I got another email that the price went up $30k (but they purchased everything 4 months ago and they couldn't even add 2 outlets for us?). I asked if we were still on track for a Sept/Oct closing and got an email back that it will actually be more towards the end of the year now. The next email I received on April 30th stated " Given the historically high demand we’re experiencing in the housing industry today, we want to provide insight on how the D.R. Horton Tampa North interest list process works, to reaffirm you that we’re here to help in your new home search. When the home is released, our management team will select the homeowner who has the overall strongest terms involving the type of financing, deposit amount, length of time of list, and type of home residency are all factors that we consider. We take pride in saying, we are NOT doing a bidding war, which means a higher price cannot be offered." So now it's not first come first served, it's whomever management decides should get the house? So we are planning a move from out of state, up and moving our entire household and now we have no clue if we are going to get the house or not because "management will decide"? Then on 5/16 I got another email "Wanted to let you know the home went under contract this weekend. We submitted the folks on the Talbot and they picked another person, sorry…". But wait... wasn't it when the A/C was installed? and the HVAC isn't roughed in because my husband was just down there and the roof trusses were still being installed 2 weeks ago. The lack of communication, the lack of accountability and the screwing around with people's lives is not worth it to use this builder AT ALL. STAY AWAY, they will screw you at every chance they get.

Just closed on new home in Toscana Isles near Venice Florida. They assured me that several unfinished projects would be completed shortly don’t believe a word they say. If their lips are moving they lie. One month later still waiting and all they do is the blame game.

Pay very close attention to what you are buying and look at the other homes that DrHorton is setting up in WHATEVER neighborhood you are buying. We purchased in Locust Grove, VA and found out that they switched from our Terrible rolled vinyl which bubbles up constantly to actual planked vinyl (the good stuff) for the rest of the development after the first 8 homes. We are now being told this is our problem even though we purchased pre fabricated homes that were SUPPOSED to have the exact same materials. Shady business if you ask me. I am going to post this on every reviewable place for DrHorton until something gets done.. or for as long as I am bothered by this.

Nice pictures but do not buy Dr. Horton. They do not care about warranty issues and never fix anything - a lot of talk but no action - we even had to live with a gas leak for months until we called the building inspector. At the time, the heating system had to be turned on the gas leak was so evident and the concentration so high that only a tiny spark would have been required to let the house explode - ask Dominion Energy - it made us sick - their rep was just laughing about the "little smell" at first he did not even smell anything?! - they should have never received the certificate of occupancy - just ask us and our neighbors - we are all having issues and no one takes care of issues - mistakes are human but you do know whether a company is good when they admit and face up to their errors. Dr. Horton does NOT! We have reported numerous issues with the house such as 2 inch gaps under each door, discolored carpet, too many holes in kitchen cabinets, no locks on windows, wrong window installed, no insulation and substandard insulation, the list is long - then they tell you after the closing that you cannot clean the fake wood floor - must use Bona at all times - you cannot use the countertop since they do NOT provide finishes on it, etc. We submitted lists after lists, warranty issues after warranty issues but nothing happens.
