Absolutely HORRILE
Absolutely HORRILE! They do not send policy and no answers on phone. Purchased Insurance and they sent me insurance card good for 6 months. Then when I tried to renew my plates, the MVB said I had no insurance. Found out Direct cancelled my policy a day after I bought it -never contacted me. They said they could not verify my address! Simply no notice, no insurance driving for almost 6 months! No refund even though they never really covered my vehicle. Don' t waste your time with these slackers.

Overcharging
I signed up for Direct auto in November 2024. They charged me $390 full coverage for 2 vehicles. When I renewed I noticed how my wife name had been changed to her maiden name on our digital insurance ID cards. So I called to have her name switched back to her married name as it was on the initial policy. The agent asked me if she was my wife and I said yes. She changed the name back and then told me because of their marriage discount my new premium was $75 cheaper. I then asked her why didn’t I get the marriage discount during the last policy. The agent stated that I was listed as separated which was a complete lie! Whichever agent listed me as separated did it so I could pay a higher premium which gives them more money in commissions. I asked for a refund on the overcharged and they still tried to low ball me instead of simply paying me the difference multiplied by 6 months!

Not worth the frustration or fees
We had Allstate's Esurance for a long time on our very old vehicles. Then a few months ago, Esurance was bought up by another company, and we were assigned to Direct Auto. At the time, we had no idea about this company, only to learn later that it's basically for high risk drivers. We aren't high risk, but felt we didn't need full coverage on 30 year old toyotas. In February, my husband was in a collision on the freeway in the rain. The accident involved three cars. No one hurt. But massive damage to my husband's car. It was determined by CHP and one of the other driver's insurance that the accident was caused by a driver in an SUV that hydroplaned into the other two cars involved. We filed a claim with Direct Auto. They called my husband and said our policy didn't include collision coverage for us. Okay, fine. But what about the party that caused the accident? Will you contact them? Nope. And then we heard nothing for two months, during which time they left our claim open. During the time of the open claim I had to pay for insurance on the totaled vehicle. I asked if I could drop the car from our policy as it is not driveable. They refused saying that it is only the claims adjuster that can close an open claim or total out the car. Although I could release title and then they would release me from my policy. So, I opted cancel my policy and moved a more reputable agency for better coverage on my new vehicle. Prior to cancelling the policy, I had written to the claims adjuster about this issue of paying for insurance on a nonoperational vehicle. It took her well over a week to respond. In her response, she deflected to the insurance company of the second and not responsible vehicle for coverage of damages to our car. If this claims adjuster had actually done her job and read the accident report, she would have known that she was giving out incorrect information. Regardless of our policy, the LEAST this adjuster could have done is read the accident report and did a little diligence regarding who was at fault. As it stands, we are out a vehicle with zero recourse unless we hire an attorney. My advice is if you need insurance, do your diligence and go elsewhere.

Rip off
Direct Auto is a rip off company, they charge me way more to renew my insurance with them and then my monthly payments went sky high no accidents no tickets no points on my driving license but they wanted to charge me both my arms and my legs I left them and went and found another insurance company they will not get another red cent from me and I'm going to tell the people don't deal with direct Auto because they are they will rip you off. I wouldn't recommend anyone to deal with them, Now don't get me wrong, they have some good people working for them, it's just the rip off company that they work for.

0 stars!!! ZERO!
0 stars. This insurance gives off scam vibes. No communication when you have a claim then call one day before they want you to turn in your rental with no notice that they can only extend if you take to a reputable shop. WHEN I STILL DONT EVEN HAVE A CHECK OR ESTIMATE. There is nothing in my policy documents that says I can’t do repairs on my own and have a rental at the same time. I pay the highest premium (suredrive) to ensure I have rental coverage so I have a vehicle incase of emergency. Don’t get this insurance. They are a scam! I’m not renewing. This is unacceptable.

Hard to work with from the very start...stay away
Shortly after I signed up with them, I got a letter in the mail saying my policy was going to be cancelled because I hadn't provided the proper documents. I wasn't aware they needed more.
The agent I signed up with never returned my call. I had to call the 800 number. That guy said they sent an email about the documents, but I never received it. I think before canceling they should also have tried to call me and send something snail mail.
Them cancelling me was a blessing, I switched to another company that not only saved me money but is so much easier to work with.
When they sent me the final bill, they offered an online option to pay, but I wasn't able to use it.
All around hard company to work with...I hate to think what would have happened if I needed to submit a claim.
My advice is stay away. There are better companies out there.
