Watch out for $30 "call-in" fees if you actually expect to get your prescriptions
I have many pages of notes that I took down after interviewing a dozen+ bioidentical hormone providers. In 2024, I chose to go with Elevate. I did like them -- although I wondered if I could do better on their pricing now that I'm more stabilized with my hormone treatment. Earlier this year, I went with a local hormone provider -- way cheaper on visits/labs/most meds, but then they lost me as a patient after trying to charge $1200/year for testosterone therapy for women. Finally, everyone in the hormone groups on social media started pointing me to Defy for good care and fair pricing. And so far, I've been impressed. My first appt. was one hour. Morgan listened well and gave a lot of careful thought to my treatment options. I liked the fact that their pricing on the meds they send through their compounding pharmacy was upfront and fair. Daisy was friendly and got me through the intake process quickly. I love that my future visits will just be every six months and at a reduced nurse-practitioner "follow-up" rate. Everything was A+. The reason I have bumped my review down one star is because yesterday they called to confirm the prescriptions I needed called in to my local pharmacy and told me they charge a $30 "call-in fee." The main prescription I need (progesterone) is only $15/month. This feels like a sneaky, underhanded way of pulling in additional $$ out of patients. This ridiculous "call-in" fee was not disclosed when I called in initially to get prices on all their virtual visits, labs, and meds, etc. I view this $30 call-in fee (that they charge even if they send you the RX directly and don't actually call it in anywhere) as equivalent to charging a $30 "hang-up" fee for Zoom consultations. It's simply not a fee that any tele-provider I've ever hired has charged. Calling in prescriptions is generally viewed in America as part of the services one is paying for when paying for the tele-visit (or in-person visit) in the first place. This feels like the time we went to a car dealership to purchase a vehicle and they tried to sneak in a $5,000 "dealership fee." While not as dramatic, it still feels underhanded and unethical -- particularly when not disclosed in the very first intake call.

Thank you for your review, and for letting us know you’re happy with your level of care at Defy Medical. For the call-in fee, we strive to provide both quality medical care and affordable access to medications, blood tests, and nutritional supplements. In order to accomplish this, we utilize qualified pharmacies to fill our patients’ prescriptions. When patients wish to send their prescriptions outside of our Pharmacy Network, we charge a small administrative fee to manage the prescription. We do notify patients of this prescription fee in our patient paperwork, but we apologize that you did not feel adequately informed. If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
