VORSICHT! ABZOCKE!! Finger weg!!

This isn’t a hotel!
I have a beautiful apartment overlooking the harbor in Los Angeles. I have a beautifully decorated spare bedroom and decided to try Couchsurfing. I have hosted 7 people now and am done. What I find is that at least with the ones I hosted, they expect to be hosted, wines and dined and entertained. They tended to act like they were at a hotel with room service and maid service. Eating and drinking anything they please from the kitchen, leaving a mess and really sort of being ungrateful. All but one experience was like this.

my horrible couch surfing experience
I decided to go on a holiday to take a break from my horrible everyday life as a KFC manager, a father of five annoying brats and most of all, i was excited to spend some time away from my wife, the reason for that, is simple: I can sense that she doesn’t love me anymore and it’s starting to show. Needless to say i really hate my miserable life. i didn’t have enough money to pay for a hotel stay, which lead me to try out CouchSurfing.
I decided to go to America, specifically the town Austin in the state of Texas. I found a family that were willing to lend out their couch to a 48 year old man. Not long after that, i flew all the way from Kazakhstan to Austin, Texas. When i arrived at the airport in Texas, the host family were supposed to pick me up but i guess they forgot, so i had to wait two hours before they drove me to their house.
When i stepped into their house their dog attacked me. Apparently their dog breed is illegal. Needless to say it hurt like hell! I asked the host family if they could do me a favor and drive me to the nearest hospital, the daughter replied “no” i thought she was being sarcastic so i reacted with a petty laugh, turns out she was not being sarcastic. They refused to drive me to the hospital because they didn’t want their dog to be taken away from them.
I had already spend all my kid’s college savings on this trip, so there was no going back.
The father showed me the couch i was going to spend my nights on. I was disgusted. The couch had brown stains and in addition to that, it had a horrible smell.
After that horrible discovery i went to leave the house, only to discover that my shoes were gone when i went to the front door. I asked the son of the family if he knew anything about my shoes, it turns out the dog ate my shoes, i threw a tantrum and started to yell at the father of the host family “your illegal monster of a dog just ate my Yeezy’s!” he replied with a cold hearted “what are you going to do about it?” He did not seem to give a single care about my expensive shoes. I accepted fate and went to sleep.
The next morning the father woke me up at five o’clock. He told me that he was taking me to a shooting range so i could experience the true beauty, of America. When we arrived at the shooting range, the father handed me an AR-15 rifle and told me to “shoot away”. Shooting with the father was actually a lot of fun, until he handed me an apple and told me to place it on the top of my head and stand still. I refused to do what he told me to do. He then started to threaten me with his gun until i eventually gave in. Luckily he was a pretty good marksman, but it was still the scariest thing i had ever experienced
After this horrible experience i decided to go home early. My wound from the dog also started to get infected. To conclude my Texas experience, America is not a place for guys like me. When i got home, i found a note from my wife saying that she emptied my bank account and left with the kids.

You are not safe
When I was in Mongolia 10 years ago a Couchsurfing member from Israel stole my camera. When I tried posting it on the site, they removed it. When I contacted them to ask why, they said they couldn't post any accusations of criminal activities without proof. Fair enough. So I went back to the place it happened and reported it to the police. I then sent the report to the administrators. You'd think that would be good enough but nope. They said unless he has been proven guilty in a COURT of law they wouldn't post it. Huh?! Do you know how many years that could take especially since the guilty thief ran away on someone else's motorbike when I confronted him? In Mongolia it would never even have gone to court which the adminstrators know very well when it comes to foreign victims of theft in developing countries.
I would have understood if they put a note or caveat on my comment to keep it fair...but to make no note of it at all and just stuff it away?! This is their fraudulent attempt to cover their asses, make money by pretending CS is "safe" and continue to deceive thousands of innocent travelers, most of whom are young people with small budgets.
The stolen camera was a huge bummer and I made sure the thief got what was coming to him. But I can only imagine all the criminal reports, many of which are much more serious than what that douchebag committed, they simply suppressed or ignored. If that doesn't bring a chill to the back of your neck...
Very dangerous site for women in particular but everyone in general.

Was asked for a verification fee when creating the account. I was expecting something like 1€, but it turns out it's 50€.
Applied for a refund, and it says that it might take 10+ days
CS, please, be honest and mention the prices upfront!

Poor quality of people
The platform has mostly back packers from East Europe and USA. These people by an large are homeless or low life in their real life. I tried to engage with some people and found them dirty and free loaders, and in some cases not healthy. Definitely I would not like unhealthy people to use my household things including bed and couch. And to top it all CS does not allow to write any health conditions of a user. So in a way they promote these unhealthy users to visit innocent uninformed host and spread their disease all in the name on guest. Very bad platform … stay away and stay healthy.
