What I don't like about CS are: 1: You can not delete old requests and messages. So I have like million of old messages and requests. There is no point of having those old requests and messages, since when you're trying to look for messages, it's not possible since it's so disorganized. 2: Most CS does discriminate ( especially the ones from northern europe, meaning that it's impossible to find a host in some certain countries. 3: Some CS'er are very unreliable, even if you have a backup plan, it's very risky to trust on them. 4: When you request for a couch, you're expecting some sort of standard of cleaning. The last 3 CS'er I've been hosted, has a very dirty house. 5: Some user uses very bad words when you decline them. CS admin doesn't care about this. 6: One CS'er found a host, she got sexually harassed by an Italian guy and she begged me to host her. CS doesn't care. 7: CS should be a none profit organization, and I don't understand why CS require money so you can become a verifies user. A verified user doesn't make you more reliable, it just change your title. CS earns money from CS'er. Why should I pay CS money to become a verified user? I'm the one who host people for free, not CS. There is no logic in this.

I used CS for many years, for hosting and for surfing. I hosted 150+ people, and surfed all over the world, and I believe it is one of the best ways to see the world. I havent used it in the past year or so, since Ive noticed the change, which was probably influenced by turning the company into for-profit, and increased quantity of members, which made the quality go down a bit. Still, if you want to travel in your own city or see the world by sleeping on other peoples couches, definitely recommendable.

Etwa 5 Mal konnte ich mir über die Website bislang einen Schlafplatz organisieren. 4 mal war es super, 1 mal eher weniger. Die Seite an sich ist etwas undurchsichtig. Nachdem man sich dort registriert hat und seine Photos, Daten etc hochgeladen hat, dauert es ein wenig bis alles anläuft. Im Endeffekt ist es wie mit jedem anderen Portal dieser Art: Es gibt viele nette Leute, bei denen ich sofort wieder übernachten würde. Aber auch einige Idioten, die das Prinzip von couchsurfing noch nicht ganz verstanden zu haben. Der Herr meiner letzten Couch wollte von mir glatt einen "obolus" haben, da ich ja keine bin und ihn nur durch meine Anwesenheit erheitern könnte. Aber Schwamm drüber, Idioten gibt es überall. Alles in allem eine gute Sache, aber passt auf bei wer ihr eure Nacht verbringt. Nicht jeder Mensch ist vertrauenswürdig!

Why didn't someone think of this sooner? Thats what I was thinking when I first became familiar with couch surfing. It's easy and it's hard to believe it actually works, but because of good intentioned and open minded people, it does. Whenever I am am traveling, I search the couchsurfing hosts in that area (in US or anywhere in the world). I can choose the age,gender and other preferences as I search. I can read about what other people say about the person, and if they are verified (meaning they have paid a fee to couchsurfing to clear a criminal background check). I have met so many great people on here, and my experiences have all been neutral or positive. People tend to be up front so I know what to expect (I have 20 dogs, I am busy so you'll have to show yourself around, etc) I saw most of Europe by couchsurfing. Its amazing that there are cool people everywhere in the world that just want to be hospitable with no crooked intensions. Its really renewed my faith in humanity. When I am back in my hometown, I am a host and try to give back for all I have received. You should try it and tell your friends about it.

Creo Couch Surfing sea una idea brillante. Pero los usuarios tienen que entender bien cual es el ámbito de este servicio. Couch Surfing no es simplemente un sitio donde se encuentran lugares para dormir gratis. El aspecto social es muy importante. Es muy útil cuando se viaja sin compañeros o con poco conocimiento de la ciudad que se esta visitando. Las personas donan su tiempo y su disponibilidad para tomar un café o salir por la noche quieren conocer gente nueva. También pueden ser que incluso sea tan amable de dejarte dormir en su sofá. El alcance de Couch Surfing es encontrar a la gente, conectar a las personas y hacer nuevos amigos. Couch Surfing tampoco es un sitio de citas. Tendeos a miente y a disfrutar!

CS used to one of the best hospitality websites that used to help traveller to get connected for mere cultural exchange. Now everything changed since they wanted to make money by betraying members who contributed most of their time, money and knowledge. It is sad to see this site going in the wrong direction.
