I had horrible scam experience from CS like some users here. I was paying monthly then all of a sudden paywall blocked me and I had to pay yearly. Then I got the receipts of two ways of paying. Then I contacted CS and they did refund. A month later got both receipts again but they didn't do anything before I contact them again. Then I paid for verification and again paywall blocked me so I can't enter the page if I don't choose the payment method again while I have to pay almost 100 euro till end of this month. Literally fraud and I think they are choosing who to scam

Been a member of couch surfing for a few years, My girlfriend and i made sure females had a safe place if stranded, I have a 9 months left on my account been blocked from reading a group comment as couchsurfing is demanding monthly payments, I pay yearly, because if i paid monthly my bank surcharges would be more than my membership at the end of the year. But why should i be blocked when i still have a lot of time before my membership runs out. Even when i get a request one cannot see it, when one wishes you Happy New Year one cannot see it, luckily for me there on Face Book and Whatsapp. Couchsurfing is no longer worth being rated, I can pay no problem, but why should i pay 15.36 dollars on top of my yearly fee, when i still had or have 9 months before my next payment

Once a no profit company managed by volounteers around the globe, one of the most magnificent project ran on the internet, really able to create a connection between people from far places in the world. Then turned into a corporation (with a lot of unfair profits, they basically sold the database the users contributed to create through the years). And finally, last step, they illegally locked out all the users behind a paywall, without giving the possibility to retrieve personal data. We should rise a legal act against this website, this is a huge fraud.

FRAUD. if there was a ZERO star rating, i would give it. Couchsurfing is basically a dead idea that got crushed by AirBnb. Now they extort money on members even to deactivate the account. Check your CCs and Paypal even if you deactivated the account. They will continue to charge unauthorized fees, and their phone number as well as their email address is a dead end.

They are asking for the fees, as a long time member from 2012, I hosted many great people for free! And now I am not able even see my account without paying. This is really sad! Shame on you CS support. You could do it better like limited the accounts, but this way the accounts are hostages in your hands! I don't have problem to pay for it, but this approach makes me feel you don't deserve it, looks like scam. I am going to the competition instead. RIP CS!

There is no way to disable one's profile now that the platform is behind a paywall. Customer support does not answer messages. Due to laws related to the global health crisis in the place where I live, I cannot accept any guests. At the same time, Couchsurfing has put its entire platform behind a paywall, making it impossible to access even to make basic changes to one's account, e.g. change availability/disable a profile. Even though customer support confirmed in September that they deactivated my profile after getting in touch with them, I have kept receiving requests from other members. I have contacted customer support again a few more times, but they are no longer answering support tickets that I have raised for clarification. So I can only but assume there is something fishy with their practices (either security issues or deliberately keeping profiles enabled to keep userbase inflated).

I signed up to potentially use Couchsurfing in October. At no time did I authorize Couchsurfing to charge my account. Their product states it is free to sign up. Apparently after I signed up and completed my profile I was charge $60.00 on October 19, 2020 and another charge of $60.00 on November 11th or 12th 2020. I e-mailed Couchsurfing on October 10, 2020, October 30, 2020, November 10, 2020, November 19, 2020 and on November 29, 2020. I have never received follow up e-mail, a refund or a resolution regarding these two charges. Further, Couchsurfing publishes a customer service telephone number but the number is disconnected. I am concerned that Couchsurfing is a fraudulent operation charging customers $60.00 fees just to sign up for their service. COUCHSURFING IS A FRAUD! They make fraudulent charges, ignore your emails and their telephone number is disconnected. They have also ignored correspondence sent from my bank regarding these charges as well.

Couchsurfing.com used to be a great way for travelers to stay at each others' houses for free. It still worked alright when I last used it in early 2020, despite having changed from a not-for-profit community-built website to a commercial enterprise run by people who don't seem to get it or really care. However, their recent switch to a paid model was done in an extremely irresponsible and despicable way, by suddenly blocking all users from their accounts with zero warning, essentially holding hostage everyone's contacts and years of reviews behind a paywall that no one knew would be put up. They have also been instantly banning anyone who sends a message within the system about any alternative platform for finding hosts, calling it "advertising" even though this was always fine before. Many hosts are leaving the platform because they don't want to have to pay to let people stay in their houses for free. Luckily there are a couple pretty good free non-profit alternatives, BeWelcome and Trustroots, which might one day be as useful as Couchsurfing.com if they can get enough users (I've already used them successfully).
