They are scamming their users by adding a second verification page after the monthly subscription page of 1.99 that will charge you 56 Euros without you knowing and the refuse to give out refunds. Many people have been affected. Do not support this company

WHY and WHO ruined this beautiful platform made of awesome people around the world??? You should be ashamed of yourselves 🤬 may karma hit you in the but! We didn’t even get a warning.. my connections, reviews from there, everything gone.. unless I pay 🤦🏼‍♀️

Like many of you I didn't pay attention for the verification and that famous little grey text that mentions the sum of 60$, I asked for a refund and I received an email "request accepted" within the same hour. Mail: Hello, I put my credit card for verification and you took 60$, why? Thank you for your help Answer from support: Hello Skander, I have processed your refund as requested. You should see the funds returned to the account you paid from within 5 to 10 business days. Please keep in mind these time frames can vary depending on your bank. You should have been able to see how much Verification costs, and the fact that it is a one-time payment that verifies your profile for life, on the Verification page (the page where you entered your payment details). We use the revenue received from Verification subscriptions to keep the site running. Just so it's clear, verification is an *optional* program and is not required to use the site. We have many successful members at every level of verification, including those not Verified.

I don’t understand why the FBI don’t investigate these scammers? Stay away from this platform. They take money from your account without your permission.

DONT VERIFY WITH CREDIT CARD Like so many other travellers I got scammed via the verification progress. Cost me 60€ with no possibility for refund. Such a shame what Couchsurfing has become

I’ve been using Couchsurfing for over 15 years. Sadly, many new users look at it as “a free place to stay.” That is NOT what it’s about. It’s about a way to share travel experiences with likeminded travel fanatics! They’ve added a VERY SMALL fee to weed out those that want a free bed. Those users are angry. They’re giving it bad reviews. I’ve probably saved $2,000 in hotel fees while Couchsurfing. But who cares? What matters is I’ve stayed with a local at Mardi Gras; gone fishing at the cliffs of Moher; had lunch in The Everglades; brought an English soldier to Barton Springs pool... it’s NOT about free travel. It’s about LOVE of travel. That’s why it gets a great review. I’m not pissed off about paying less than one dinner’s cost per year for a GREAT travel experience.

Unfortunately one more in the pool of people who were mis-directed. I had already paid for the monthly subscription and thought that the credit card was used to verify that I'm not a bot/fake account (which was odd since I had already paid once). In any case, I entered the card details once more, only to realize that I was robbed (approx. 55 euros). I signed up using my phone and I did not see anywhere that I was about to get charged. Having contacted both my bank and Couchsurfing support, it seems that my money have become thin air. This is ridiculous. Totally a scam trick for unsuspecting folks. Note: they stopped issuing refunds after May 14th, 2020 which clearly means that a large number of people got mis-directed and then opted for a refund. Totally dissapointing. If you're here because you did the smart move on time (unlike me), I totally recommend that you stay away! Really bad experience, won't be going anywhere near their platform again.

Deceived me into thinking I was verifying my card and then charged it 56 euro. Only get automated response from support, refusing all refunds. Do not use this service or have anything to do with it!
