56€ für Verifizierung ohne Hinweis auf Kosten abgebucht… Betrug! Hat jemand erfolg gehabt und dieses Geld auf irgendeinem Weg zurückbekommen?

On the one hand, good concept of the site. If there were different, better people behind the website it could be better. Having totally no refund policy is just not customer friendly. I fell for the verification trap. Be aware! I think Couchsurfing stopped taking care of the community they were trying to create. It's sad that they are here only for the money. If there are some payments is totally okay but not a non-refundable 56€ payment for verification. I tried to ask for a refund just a few seconds after I accidentally made the payment...no success.

It's become an awful, creepy site. I got a weird email that made it sound like I'd been active. I hadn't been. At the website I couldn't find a login page to change my password. But there is a link to download your data, which gets you a zip file. What? You're not logged in, but you can download data? I asked Support for help and they asked me for a list of personal info, the kind of thing you use for password security, and things I don't remember as it's been years since I used couchsurfing. It really seems like the site may have been taken over by scammers. Don't use it and don't give them your information. I don't know what info of mine they have from back when I used it, and it's very unsettling.

After a lot of years of using and having had good experience in Hosting and Surfing got banned without any reason. Didn't check for a while, maybe a few months and couldn't reach my profile when I wanted to check on. Mailed them and they told me because of policy stuff and they can't tell me anything, by the way they deleted my account and tell me that I'm unwelcome. Are you stupid?!!!!!!!! Why do you write something like this?!!!! That's such a rude, awekfull and disgusting way of treating that people who are offering for free to other travelers their homes (for years!!!!!) with what they now want to make a lot of money. I hope this bad review will make more people aware about the new terms and way of (non) functionality Couchsurfing has now. Having being attended this way made me also reasearch a bit about it and made me aware of the money stealing and that more and more people are not being able to find a Host, just thanks to so many comments in the internet, as new as the new terms and way of function.

I joined Couchsurfing after taking a break for several years and decided to update my information on the platform. To increase my profile credibility, I decided to do the verification. This is where the Couchsurfing scam came in. They only allow you to start with payment verification - that is, enter your card details. There is no any extra information. After you do it, the unpleasant surprise comes to your mail in the form of a receipt informing you that $60 has been taken from your card. I repeat that Couchsurfing does not notify you that it will extract this money from your card. This comes as a huge surprise considering that (1) you are not notified in any way and (2) you don't expect to be ripped off like this by such a well-known entity. After you request the immediate return of the money, they respond quickly with an email that seems automatic. They state that this information exists on the website (which is absurd, because you have no reason to search the website's categories when you actually want to be verified on the site) and that this payment is for your profile's lifetime verification. Afterwards, they completely ignore your emails. This lifetime profile verification is a lie, because you have to make permanent periodic payments to Couchsurfing in order to confirm it. This money will be automatically withdrawn from your card. The only way to avoid this is to close your card, because if you try to delete or change your card data in your Couchsurfing profile, you won't find a way to do it! (even if you could enter the details of a non-working card, I'm sure they'd take the money off the old card anyway) In addition, in the category where they say you can cancel the verification confirmation (that is, payments that will be automatically taken from your card) by pressing the "Cancel confirmation" button, you will get a new unpleasant surprise: the button does not work. You press it, the page reloads, but nothing happens. For those scammed in this way there are other methods to try, including contacting your bank. But there is no guarantee that you will get your money back.

Clearly, I'm not the only one who feels robbed. On the CS website, you will be asked to verify your account - be careful!!! If you click 'yes,' you will be charged 420 DKKR (app. EUR 56). This charge is so well hidden that it basically works like a trap. I also didn't realise what had happened until it was too late. And, like everyone else, I also immediately contacted customer support. But they will not help you. There is no refund. I do believe that this practice is illegal - at least within the EU. I also contacted my bank, and they advised me to file a complaint with Nets.eu. I was going to do that, but I fell ill, and the following six weeks were a bit of a nightmare, so I gave up. I am still absolutely furious. It's daylight robbery. If this happens to you, and you are an EU citizen, please contact Nets. And report Couchsurfing anywhere you can.
