Après avoir été arnaquée pour la vérification du compte, comme c'est décrit dans d'autres commentaires ci-dessous, je me suis trouvée un an plus tard avec une "contribution" de 13,99€ prélevée sur mon compte. En retournant sur mon compte CS, j'ai vu qu'une fumeuse option "contribution" était activée. Je l'ai désactivée, et il semblerait qu'elle ne le soit que jusqu'à 2024, d'après les indications fumeuses du site. Il n'est pas non plus possible de supprimer mes données de CB enregistrées sur le site.

I was also scammed out of £51 like everyone else here. I didn't bother with checking reviews before I paid because this is such a popular website.

Después de mas de 10 años ofreciendo mi casa, mi comida, mi persona como guia turístico,etc. No habiendo utilizado nunca las casas de los miembros, ni pens ndo hacerlo jamás. He de lo pagar por ello????? Entendí que pidieran dinero cuando el COVID pero 3 años después.....algo huele

Obviously we all were happier back when it was free, but I think the new charge is fair for the investment and running costs of the platform. I've personally met a lot of great people over the years through this site both hosting and surfing in countries all over the world.

Two days ago I wanted to try to use Couchsurfing, so I paid a monthly contribution of 2 euro. Then there was in the centre of the page a Verification part where I was supposed to insert my credit card credentials, thinking it was only for authentification/verification purposes. Immediately after, I have been charged for 56€ for a lifetime membership that I didn't want! I asked them a refund and they just told me they don't give any refund from the 14th of may 2020 as an excuse! I immediately asked my bank for a chargeback. Very bad experience with a company with what I though were good values, but I was wrong!

Another "account verification" victim here. 56 euro taken without explanation after I paid already 2 pounds for "supporting" the community. They refused refund request even though I sent them an email in 5 min after I opened my account and get scammed. I immediately contacted my bank, reported fraud, deactivated my card as per my a Bank's request, went to the police to make a formal statement for online fraud. Sent all the documents from the bank and police, signed, by email to the counter where I opened my bank account. Reclaimed my stolen 56 eur within 24 hours. Let's say I paid 2 GBP for being stupid. Truly sad to see what a scammer couch surfing has became. (Oh I live in Italy btw, in case you need to follow what I did in order to get refunded)
