We put down a $4225.66 deposit on May 9th, 2025 for a move from Michigan to Florida. Things did not work out for us to move for various reasons. Coastal is refusing to refund our deposit, saying it is non-refundable! What?! We are shocked, to say the least. I dont care who you are, this is a lot of money!! Be very weary of this Company! They are very sly and tricky!

Scam!!!
Initially, the people we dealt with over the phone were courteous and excellent. Then moving day arrived... The movers missed their window and wanted to come at 10pm. We had specifically paid extra money to move on that day, and had planned to travel to a hotel that day after the move. Then the movers said they would switch to the next day and we should appoint a friend to oversee and they would have us on the phone the whole time. The driver went AWOL and refused to contact us. He insisted he had to come that day at 11:45pm, and all lines at coastal moving services were silent, we could not get in touch with anyone. The driver eventually showed up at 12:45am and proceeded with the move. We had to stay up from our hotel until 4am, and our friend had to be there all night. The driver repackaged things and increased our estimate by double. For example - we had pillows stuffed in a laundry bin which they insisted on pulling out of the laundry bin and repackaging, then charging us cubic feet for the bin and pillows. We were not included at all, and the movers completely took advantage of this fact. Next few days were a series of no one answering our calls or emails, until several days later we reached a lady named Kelly who was extremely rude and said she was going to call us to collect money. When we started to object to the price increase, she told us we should be happy with a 200$ discount, which was the amount of money we paid to specifically move on that day (the date they missed). Arguments went no where, and we are still at a standstill. We then called coastal customer service who informed us that unfortunately we had been mislead. When the movers told us that we should chose a first available delivery date to receive our goods at our new home, we should've chosen a date 12-17 days before we wanted our stuff. Essentially, "first available delivery date" did not mean the first day you are available for delivery as it implies (and as it was explained to us when we signed the contract), rather it is the time when they will begin shipping our belongings. Right now we genuinely don't know if we will ever see our belongings again, and not a single person we have spoken to has been helpful, honest, remorseful, or even apologetic. This company is a complete scam and is likely selling our belongings on eBay.

Check the Better Business Bureau website hundreds of complaints
Look them up on the better business bureau website. hundreds of complaints in two years. They are just a broker. They find the cheapest worst movers they can find to do the actual job in my opinion. They start you with a low bid based on vague questions. Then the inept movers showed up. three out of four movers left in the middle of the job (for hours) to go do another job. They just disappeared with the truck. When they got back we were so behind that they just started dumping my possessions into garment boxes. Not wrapped. Lots of scratches and dents. at 11pm I had nothing but a mattress in my new place. They tried to charge me an extra 1000 dollars. They were late again the next day to complete the move. This time only two people. Do not hire this company. Unethical if not criminal. That is for the law to decide.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your moving experience did not meet your expectations, and we want to address your concerns directly and with full transparency.
First, regarding your mention of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) — we encourage all potential clients to do their due diligence. However, it is important to view the full context. The BBB is a platform where only one side of a situation is typically represented. We strongly believe in the importance of reviewing both the client's concerns and the company’s responses to get a fair, complete picture. We are always open and responsive to complaints filed with the BBB and work diligently to resolve issues when they arise.
To clarify a major point: we do not contract with the “cheapest” or “worst” movers. In fact, we’ve spent years developing a private, well-vetted network of licensed and insured carriers who meet our standards of professionalism, care, and reliability. We are highly selective with who we partner with, and that is intentional—to protect our clients and ensure the highest service standards possible.
In your specific case, we understand that there were additional items present at pickup that exceeded the space reserved based on your original estimate. Our movers, upon arrival, assessed the actual volume and made the necessary adjustments. Estimates are based on the information provided prior to pickup and are not finalized until movers can confirm the volume onsite. This is clearly outlined in our terms.
Additionally, we do have notes in your file indicating that during pickup, you appeared to be under the influence and making threats, which made the moving crew uncomfortable. We also want to note that there was no outreach from your side to our office on the day of pickup, which limited our ability to assist you in real time. We encourage open communication during the move to help us resolve any issues or concerns as they happen.
While we regret that your experience led to dissatisfaction, we must reiterate that we provide an estimate, dependent on the actual items being moved.
We truly regret the inconvenience you experienced and appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention. If you wish to discuss this further or provide additional details, we’re here to help.

Was quoted what I was told to be a fairly solid estimate (meaning it might change a little) and when movers showed up they told me it would be 50% higher. I had no choice but to pay and will have to pay balance to deliver. I had discussed at length the items, sent pictures of every room and some closets and also packed many things on my own. For estimate to be that far off is absurd.
I have attempted to contact agent as well as customer service multiple times without response.

I should've expected this
I should've expected this
I was offered a free estimate for my move. We went through each room. They gave me an estimate for my move, and when I told them I wasn't ready to make a payment yet I was accused of being rude. High-pressure sales and a real jerk on the phone... it's still amazes me that there are companies that will treat you like this when they don't get their money immediately.

Worst movers I found in my 75 years
Worst movers I found in my 75 years. Don't record your information accurately.
Then call you back to add more fees for their mistakes. They then sent a subcontractor who said he couldn't take all my things and added another 1000 fee. STAY AWAY FROM THEM..CAUSED MAJOR STRESS.

STAY AWAY!!!!!
STAY AWAY!!!!!
We chose Coastal Moving because they seemed knowledgeable; however, the salesman Eric failed to mention that they were a broker. After finding this out it was too late for the return deposit. I thought it should not be that bad, but I was wrong.
On the day of the move, I found myself dealing with a completely different company—one that, unsurprisingly, charged us more. I anticipated the upcharge BUT the cubic feet was off by more than 40% of what was originally quoted. Leaving me with another 5 thousand dollars to pay.
They then took apart everything, including the bed frame, bookshelves, legs on the chairs and other furniture. I assumed they would make a note to reassemble everything upon delivery. (WRONG)
We were told that our belongings would arrive on a certain date, but they ended up arriving six days later, with yet ANOTHER company handling the final drop-off.
Upon arrival, three of our biggest items were missing: a queen-size mattress, a large area rug, and a cat tower. To make matters worse, none of the furniture they disassembled was put back together. As someone moving across the country, do you think I had immediate access to a toolbox?
I called the main line at Coastal and was directed to then deal with the moving agency that picked up our stuff and that their side of the deal was done and they owed us nothing.
Ultimately that other company settled the issue with compensation, and their employees were great—I should have just gone with them from the beginning. Coastal, on the other hand, should be much clearer about their process instead of misleading customers by implying they handle the moving themselves.
Coastal Moving is fraudulent brokerage!!!! Honestly, you're better off doing it yourself than ever hiring them!

This is the worst scam artists I have ever encountered. The lies just went on and on. Then they held my things hostage until I came up with another thousand dollars this is after I waited almost 10 days for my things. Then they said just go get a hotel. I understand now why people say moving companies are shady. Do not use Coastal scam artists
