This is one of the worst companies (not just moving) that I've ever experienced.
-They give a quote and jack up the price last minute after strategically waiting for you to run out of time for finding other options.
-They have multiple teams that don't communicate with each other. The team who helps plan logistics doesn't speak with the moving or execution teams. They made a mistake that jepordizes my move and all of my belongings, and expect me to pay extra to account for it.
-Their customer service is incredibly rude and wil avoid your questions to try and make it feel like their mistake is your fault that you are responsible for fixing.
-Additionally, they fake most of their positive reviews to sucker people into trusting them. They don't even bother to change the format of each review they write. Total scam of a company. Id give it a -12/10 experience. Would have rather moved myself at this rate.

I had a terrible experience
I had a terrible experience. I was quoted a price for a move from the Bay Area to San Diego. I gave an itemized list to the company.
When the movers showed up, they said it would be 700 dollars more because the dining chairs did not stack.
I specified that I wanted the furniture moved and delivered, and gave them a three day window.
The furniture showed up three days after the window, and more than a week since the pick up date.
A table lamp was shattered
This company misrepresents the cost and seems to lack communication between the various departments. I gave them a contact phone number for the delivery, since I do not live at the delivery address's
They called me numerous times instead of the contact person.
They are very responsive when booking, and then no one seems to know what is going on.
They insist on being paid in cash. So, there is no recourse.

Thank you for your feedback. While we regret that your experience didn’t meet your expectations, we’d like to clarify a few important points.
Our quotes are based on the inventory and details provided by the customer. If additional factors—such as non-stackable items or increased volume—are discovered on-site, an adjustment may be necessary to ensure proper handling and transportation. This is standard across the moving industry and is always communicated before any work is performed.
Regarding the delivery window, while we do our best to meet requested timeframes, long-distance moves involve several logistical variables that can occasionally cause delays. We understand this can be frustrating and apologize for any inconvenience.
As for payment terms, opting for cash or other secure methods is industry practice for many carriers to avoid processing delays and to streamline operations. We do ensure that all transactions are documented and receipts are issued.
We're sorry to hear about the damaged lamp, and if this was reported, our claims process would have been available to help resolve it. Additionally, we make every effort to follow customer instructions, though we always maintain communication with the primary account holder to avoid confusion or missed updates.
We value all feedback—even critical—as it allows us to identify where clarity or improvements may be needed. If you'd like to revisit any specific concerns, we're happy to speak with you directly and work toward resolution.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We understand how frustrating moving can be, especially when expectations don’t align with the outcome. However, we’d like to offer some context from our side.
As a licensed moving coordinator, we partner with FMCSA-registered motor carriers to execute moves. This is industry-standard practice and fully disclosed during the booking process. The final cost of a move is based on actual volume and services rendered. If the space or conditions at pickup differ from the original estimate—such as additional items or unforeseen access challenges—rate adjustments may apply and are communicated prior to proceeding.
We never apply "hidden fees" and always strive for transparency. Our goal is to keep customers fully informed throughout the process. Additionally, your moving estimate outlines all possible additional fees if required, along with our companies policies. If there were issues with packing or damages, those should have been reported through the proper claims process so we could assist in resolving them.
We’re truly sorry you didn’t receive the experience you expected and encourage you to contact our customer service team directly if you'd like to discuss any unresolved issues. Your feedback helps us improve, and we are committed to accountability.

Total scammers they told me $2500 to…
Total scammers they told me $2500 to move my two bedrooms in state and then when the final review upped to to $4700 we finally settled on $3500 and then when they came out said no that my furniture was to heavy and it would be $4500 and when ask for manager he was rude and refused to give me his boss. He refused to give me my money back of $1400 and thought the already had $1000 more given to the movers and then said what kind of person was I that I was not going to honor the contract. I said I would if they did for the move for $3500 as promised which they would not. I am attempting to gt my $1400 back from my bank and looking for a reputable mover!!! DO TRUST THESE GUYS!!!!

We appreciate the opportunity to address the concerns regarding your recent move scheduled for 04/16/2025.
At the time of booking, you provided an inventory resulting in a reserved space of 871 cubic feet. Upon arrival at your residence for pickup, the moving team assessed your belongings and identified a significant number of bulky items, which are larger than standard household dimensions. As outlined in the estimate you reviewed and signed, bulky items may incur additional fees due to the extra labor required and the increased space they occupy in the truck.
Following a full assessment, the foreman informed you that your inventory required a total of 1600 cubic feet, nearly double the originally reserved space. You were provided with the option to only load items that would fit within the reserved 871 cubic feet, allowing you to remain within your original budget. However, you declined this option.
You then requested a refund of your deposit. We informed you at that time that once services are rendered onsite, including dispatching a truck and labor to your location, the deposit becomes nonrefundable. This policy is clearly stated in multiple sections of your signed estimate.
Additionally, on 04/17/2025, we received notification that a chargeback was filed for the deposit payment you made. Please be advised that our billing department is actively reviewing this matter and will respond accordingly through the appropriate channels.
Our goal is always to provide transparent and fair service, and we regret that your experience did not meet your expectations. Should you have further questions or wish to discuss the matter in more detail, please feel free to contact our customer service team directly.

The price increased to more than double…
The price increased to more than double the quote! Ridiculous!!! The driver said they get this complaint all the time. They were very nice and polite, but of course they could not do anything about the price increase. Do not use this company!!
Response from Coastal Moving ServicesApr 14, 2025
We appreciate the opportunity to clarify the reason behind the price adjustment for your move.
You booked services on March 28, 2025, for a pickup scheduled between April 13–14, based on an inventory of 74 items. This inventory resulted in a reservation of approximately 722 cubic feet of space on the truck.
However, on the day of pickup, the movers assessed a total of 144 items for transport—essentially doubling the inventory. This increase required an additional 970 cubic feet of space to safely and properly accommodate all of your belongings. It’s important to understand that when additional items are added onsite, the space needed to transport those items must be factored into the total cost.
In addition, 2 of the 70 added items were motorcycles. Due to their size and structure, motorcycles are considered specialty items that require considerable space and cannot be stacked upon. This further impacts the total volume and space planning required.
Despite the significant increase in volume and the complexity introduced by the added items, the carrier still extended a $500 discount as a gesture of goodwill.
We value transparency and fairness, and we encourage you to contact our customer service team directly if you would like to further discuss the details of your move or the final charges. We're here to help clarify any remaining concerns.

Missing Valuables and Coercive Payment Practices
At the time of booking, I was provided with an estimated cost by the broker; however, the final charges presented by the moving company were significantly higher than the original estimate. When I questioned the discrepancy, I was told that canceling the move would result in the forfeiture of my deposit—even though the company’s policy clearly allows for cancellation within three days of booking.
Furthermore, Coastal Moving Services failed to provide an itemized inventory of the belongings they picked up. Upon delivery, multiple high-value items were missing, including a desktop computer valued at over $1,000 and more than five boxes containing personal property and valuables worth over $4,000.
After I initiated a credit card dispute on the payment with Coastal Moving Services, the driver later claimed to have located six of the missing boxes. However, I also have a recorded call with a Coastal Moving Services agent named Leah, during which she explicitly stated that I would "never see [my] boxes" unless I submitted payment via certified check, without first verifying that my items had been delivered. She further stated that they would hold my items hostage, referencing a photo of the boxes as proof of possession.
Response from Coastal Moving ServicesApr 14, 2025
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We take all customer feedback seriously and would like to address each of the points you've raised.
At the time of pickup, you added a significant number of items that were not included in the original estimate. As outlined in the estimate and discussed with you on-site, any additions to the inventory can impact the total cost. Our estimates are based on the inventory provided prior to the move. When these changes were explained, you indicated a desire to cancel the services, but we informed you of our clearly stated policy: cancellations made on-site result in a forfeiture of the deposit, which is agreed upon in writing at the time of booking.
Additionally, this move was booked as a last-minute reservation—on 04/01/2025 for pickup on 04/02–04/03. Our cancellation policy explicitly states that moves booked within 7 days of the requested pickup date are non-refundable, and this was acknowledged in your signed agreement.
A detailed inventory was included in your original estimate and was also documented by the carrier at the time of pickup. Copies of this paperwork remain with the carrier, and a summary was provided to you. When you contacted our office on 04/09 regarding missing items, we promptly reached out to the carrier and included you on the communication to ensure transparency. On 04/11, the carrier confirmed that one of the missing boxes had been located.
Unfortunately, we received a chargeback alert that same day, indicating that you disputed the deposit payment. We respectfully dispute this action as services were rendered—both in terms of coordinating and facilitating the move, as well as continuing to assist you in locating and recovering your items. Despite this, we remained committed to helping resolve the matter with the carrier.
You were informed that once the chargeback was resolved or the deposit was resubmitted, the recovered items could be scheduled for delivery. This step is necessary, as the unpaid balance disrupts the delivery process. We understand your frustration and regret any misunderstanding that may have occurred during communications. However, at no point was the intention to "hold items hostage"; rather, we were following proper protocol to ensure all contractual obligations were met prior to final delivery.
We remain available to continue assisting you with the final resolution of this matter and encourage you to reach out directly.

Absolutely the worst moving experience…
Absolutely the worst moving experience I’ve ever had. Do not trust Coastal Moving Services with your money, your time, or your sanity.
When I first contacted them to move me from Ohio to Florida, they quoted me around $2,300 — which I was okay with. I paid my $1,100 deposit and was told I’d get a confirmed move date within a 2-day window, finalized 3–4 days before. Everything seemed fine… until it wasn’t.
They confirmed April 10th, between 9am–12pm. Based on that, I arranged transportation for multiple cars, gave notice to my landlord, and made serious logistical decisions based on their confirmation. Then, on April 9th, they suddenly contacted me saying they wanted to come with only 2 hours notice. I told them that didn’t work.
So what did they do? They pushed it back. Again. And again. Eventually, they told me they’d come between 5–7pm on the 10th — the original agreed-upon date, just much later than expected. I accepted, trying to be flexible. Then they changed it AGAIN to 10–11pm. At that point, I was exhausted and out of options — so I reluctantly agreed.
They didn’t show up until 11:43pm.
I called at 11pm. No answer. Then I found out they BLOCKED MY NUMBER. Let that sink in — a company I paid $1,100 to, just ghosted me and blocked me. At that point, I’d had enough and decided to just get a refund and make other arrangements. I had to be out by April 10th or face extra charges from my landlord.
Then the mover calls me and says it’s the company’s fault and tries to guilt me into letting him in to “do his job.” I told him clearly that my family — including my children — were already in bed and it was way too late. He didn’t apologize, he just kept blaming others and then said, “Are you going to let me do my job or not?” — like I had no say in the matter.
When I told him to get the company on the phone or issue a refund, he just walked away, got into his truck, and left without saying a word.
Absolutely unprofessional. Disrespectful. Disorganized. Borderline scam behavior.
I do NOT recommend this company to anyone. Save yourself the stress.

We appreciate the opportunity to clarify the events surrounding your scheduled move.
You booked services on 03/27/2025 for a move to take place 04/10-04/11, 2025. Your pick-up was confirmed for 04/10/2025 (9am–12pm). On 04/08, you contacted us around 7pm EST requesting to push the pick-up. A voicemail was left as we were unable to reach you, and dispatch rescheduled to the next available slot per your request. The next availability was on 04/11 9am-12pm, still in your pick up window reflected on the estimate.
On 04/09, you informed us you couldn’t delay and needed pick-up by 04/10. At that point, we explained that availability would depend on the driver’s schedule and other moves prior to yours, which is why the time frame changed throughout the day.
Later that day, your call with a representative escalated due to aggressive language and yelling, requiring the call to be transferred to another representative.
To clarify, your number was never blocked. The calls you made between 10–11pm on 04/10 were outside office hours. As stated on all documents you received, our office is open and representatives are available from 9am-9pm EST.
You contacted our office on 04/11 around 9am and began shouting at the representative and demanding a refund.
The carrier also reported that while on-site, you refused service and became physical with the foreman. Please note that the foreman has no authority over deposits. Due to the behavior reported so far, your request for a refund has been denied.
We must also note that labeling our company a scam is inaccurate and not reflective of the service interactions.
If you wish to speak with a manager in a calm and respectful manner, we are open to further discussion. Please reach out to customer service to schedule a call.

Bait and switch, extremely dishonest company
There is so much detail I simply don’t have space to include. Go read their BBB reviews. They are horrible all around. I had a terrible experience with Coastal Moving, and I would never trust them if I were you. My initial quote was $3300 to move a 2-bedroom apartment, but the final cost ended up being $7700. The company underquoted me to get my business, then raised the price multiple times. First, I spoke with Patrick Sweet, who gave the original quote after we discussed the details, including 30 boxes. A few days before the move, Marc told me the quote was raised to $5300 because Patrick had forgotten to include the boxes. Then, the on-site mover claimed the space estimate was off by half, raising the final quote to $7700. I had already paid a deposit, so I was forced to accept it. For comparison, I went through the same over the phone quote process two other companies who quoted me $6,878 and $6,789, using the same details. This shows that Coastal Movings original quote was intentionally low in order to gain my business.
Coastal Moving is just a middleman and doesn’t actually do the moving. They also misled me about furniture wrapping, which wasn’t included as promised over the phone. When I tried to get compensation, a very rude customer service team offered me a $200 discount, then $500 after I refused. They did so using a “settlement agreement” that they quickly had on hand. Another red flag. I only accepted the $500 because the movers showed up unannounced and wouldn’t unload without payment. My delivery was also delayed, and they didn’t call 24 hours in advance as promised. As I continue to move in, I’m discovering many things are broken and missing parts.
This company is dishonest, and I regret ever using them.
The reply they have left below perfectly summarizes their “customer service” experience. They will simply restate the events with no recognition of the fact they are the ones at fault. They stick to the fact that “there were more items on day of pick up” without addressing the fact that they are the ones who create the items lists based on the information you share with them. As a moving company that bases their entire business on giving quote over the phone, they failed every time. They clearly train their customer service to haggle with customers more than they train their quoting team to do their actual job. On day of pick up, the movers briefly scrolled through the final item list with us saying “don’t worry if it looks like a lot, we list items we take apart, like your bedframe, as multiple items.” Did coastal factor for that in the quote? Nope. And how would we as customer know that? I also recieved no call the day before drop off. The driver even started the conversation by saying “someone was supposed to call you, did they?” meaning he clearly knew no one had. This company will lie to your face, then stick the the papers you sign to claim you knew all along. Do not use them. Again, their plethora of negative reviews speaks for itself.
Response from Coastal Moving ServicesApr 11, 2025
Thank you for the opportunity to clarify your recent move with us.
You booked on 02/11/2025 for a move on 03/06/2025 with an initial estimate based on 36 items, an estimated 417 cubic feet, which you signed. A few days before pick-up, you increased your inventory, adjusting the estimate to 570 cubic feet, which you also confirmed and signed.
At pick-up, movers collected 103 items, including 20 not previously disclosed, requiring additional space and cost adjustments. These adjustments were based strictly on actual volume—not a result of underquoting.
The motor carrier extended $630 in discounts, and we offered an additional $500 refund, which you accepted. The settlement form you signed confirms that agreement and formally closes the matter.
Regarding delivery, records show you were notified for 03/22/2025, and arrangements were made to finalize payment at that time.
We appreciate your cooperation throughout this process and hope this provides further clarity regarding the events of your move. Should you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to us directly.
