Cigna and my Dr refuse to talk to each other. Even though I am the customer, Cigna won't explain to me why they declined the pre approval my Dr. Requested. I have had an undiagnosed injury for more than a month.

Extremely Poor First Experience with Cigna
This was my first time calling Cigna after my employer switched from Kaiser Permanente, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing.
I simply needed guidance on how to access the care I needed without spending an hour navigating a website that I found difficult to use. The representative I spoke with was arrogant, dismissive, and offered very little assistance. To make matters worse, the phone number he provided for Assured Benefits was incorrect.
As a new member, this is not the level of customer service I expected, especially when trying to understand a new healthcare plan. This experience has been frustrating enough that I intend to raise my concerns with my employer and consider other healthcare options if this is representative of the support Cigna provides.

Cigna has to be the WORST insurance…
Cigna has to be the WORST insurance company I have ever dealt with. I have had to harass them every two weeks for the past 3 months for them to send out a $50 reimbursement for my eye coverage. Every time I call the representative sounds confused as to what's going on and creates a new ticket number but if I ever get a check it's repeatedly the wrong amount and I have to go through the entire process again. I absolutely hate this insurance and will be canceling it as soon as I get the remaining $15 they owe me. Would give Cigna negative stars if I could. Absolutely ridiculous

Prescription coverage is a joke
Prescription coverage is a joke! Almost every medication requires a Prior Authorization. When your doctor sends the Prior Authorization request, Cigna denies coverage until you do a list of tests they deem necessary. Once you do the tests, Cigna denies coverage of the tests because they weren't "medically necessary". You ultimately end up paying out of pocket for your Prescriptions or you do without.

Hi Joseph, thank you for your feedback. I care about your well-being and I'd like to assist with your prior-authorization concerns in any way I can. Please contact me at [email protected] and include your Trustpilot username. -Brooke

DO NOT GET CIGNA
DO NOT GET CIGNA! My experience with Cigna’s customer service has been extremely frustrating. The customer service line feels inefficient and poorly designed, with long wait times and little sense that the system is actually helping resolve issues.
The biggest problem has been dealing with urgent care. The clinics don’t seem to be properly connected to Cigna’s system, so when you arrive at an urgent care facility, it can take 30 minutes or more just to determine whether that particular clinic is in network. This is especially frustrating when you’re already sick and simply trying to get care.
For an insurance company, verifying network coverage should be straightforward and nearly instantaneous. Instead, the process feels unnecessarily complicated, disconnected, and time-consuming. Cigna really needs to improve communication between its systems and participating providers and make it much easier for customers to get clear answers when they need medical care.

Three policies, $9,000 a year, and a retroactive exclusion
I've been a Cigna Global customer since 2023 and hold three policies with them, around $9,000/year in premiums. I'm 31, non-smoker, no claims history.
This year I saw an ENT for a breathing problem. Instead of assessing the claim, Cigna went back through my 2023 application and added a permanent exclusion to my policy for the entire condition — then denied the surgery on the basis of the exclusion they had just created.
The justification was that I hadn't fully answered a question about "ear, nose, throat, eye or dental problems." Their application form contains fourteen medical questions. Not one of them asks whether you've ever had surgery. They wrote the questionnaire, chose what to ask, and then treated an unasked question as if I'd answered it incompletely.
The exclusion they applied covers the condition "and any associated or related conditions or symptoms and any complications" — wording broad enough to block any nasal or sinus claim I might ever make. No review date was offered. No option to cover it at additional premium was offered.
Three years of premiums, first request, and this is the response. I'd think carefully before assuming your coverage means what you think it means.

Cigna Failure to protect consumer
To Whom It May Concern,
I am filing a formal complaint regarding Cigna’s handling of my dental claim, their refusal to assist with recovery of funds from the provider, and the prolonged delays that left me without a functioning dental bridge for nearly ten months.
I received bridge work from Dental Works that failed twice. The first bridge broke within two days, and four months later half of the bridge detached again. The provider billed the bridge with a 30‑day placement requirement, yet took 90 days to place it. This alone should have triggered a claim reversal or correction. Instead, Cigna refused to take action, even after the provider failed to return funds and ignored multiple outreach attempts.
Despite the defective work, Cigna kept my case open for ten months, repeatedly delaying the outcome and failing to provide any meaningful assistance. After nearly a year of waiting with a broken bridge, Cigna ultimately denied coverage for the replacement bridge, citing issues caused entirely by the provider’s non‑response and billing errors. I was left responsible for the cost of a new bridge despite the original work being under warranty and despite the provider’s documented negligence.
Cigna’s handling of this matter demonstrates:
Failure to assist with recovery of funds from the provider
Failure to enforce the 30‑day placement requirement
Failure to process the claim in a timely manner
Failure to protect the patient from provider misconduct
Improper denial of medically necessary replacement treatment
Ten months of unreasonable delay with no resolution
This situation has caused significant financial harm, emotional distress, and prolonged dental impairment. I am requesting a full investigation into Cigna’s conduct, including their refusal to reverse the claim, their failure to pursue recovery, and their denial of coverage for the replacement bridge.
I am also requesting that the claim be reopened, the history corrected, and coverage restored for the replacement bridge so that I am not forced to pay out‑of‑pocket for a repair that should have been covered under warranty.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a written response and corrective action.

Poor Claims and Customer Service Experience
I am extremely dissatisfied with how Cigna handled my approved reimbursement claim. My claim was approved on 6 August 2026, but weeks later the payment remained unresolved despite multiple follow-ups.
What concerned me most was not the delay itself but the lack of communication. I was given different timeframes by different representatives, had to repeatedly contact Cigna for updates, and was not proactively notified when issues arose that affected my payment.
A simple NZD $400 reimbursement turned into a month-long process requiring numerous emails and phone calls.
While the customer service agents I spoke with were polite, the overall claims administration and communication process was frustrating and inefficient.
Cigna should improve:
Proactive customer communication.
Adherence to promised turnaround times.
Escalation management.
Ownership of unresolved claims.
This experience has significantly reduced my confidence in Cigna's service.
