BetterHelp is an online service that connects licensed therapists to it's users. The licensed counselors offer sessions over live video, calls, and live text chats. As someone who works 12 hours a day, I don't have the time to personally schedule, nevermind research therapists. I also live in a rural area that has no local therapist offices. This is what makes BetterHelp the best--if not the only--option for me. It should be noted that the way BetterHelp bills it's users make it difficult to get covered by health insurance, so I recommend anyone on a tight budget to reach out to their support for payment assistance. I found the therapist I was initially matched with was a perfect fit and would definitely recommend BetterHelp to anyone who finds the traditional system inconvenient.

I have been so much healthier throughout lockdown and the months after because of this app. I was really dubious initially but felt I had nowhere else to turn. My first counsellor was nice but not for me so I switched and the one I am matched with now has supported me through some really big feelings and I am so grateful to have her in my life. You definitely get out what you put it, and I have finally seen the benefit of writing down my problems and thoughts more regularly as this helps both my counsellor and me too. I never thought it would be helpful or wouldn't work for me but being able to scroll back and see the things I have overcome is so powerful.

I’ve been scammed by what appears to be a bot posing as a counselor on here. The counselor does not take calls or video calls; she takes 3-4 days to reply to messages and most of them appear to be copy and pasted. After the last message she sent I realized she didn’t even read the message I sent her! So, I copied parts of her message into a plagiarism checker and guess what! 59% of her words are plagiarized from netdoctor UK !! Is this sincere counseling? NO, it's copy and paste. To check just how much was plagiarized, I ran the message through an online plagiarism checker and FIFTY-NINE percent of the message was plagiarized! This is not a professional counselor, this is a bot. I attached the report to this message. Betterhelp really sold me on the idea that even though I’m far away from home, I could be connected with a trusted, caring counselor that could help me. I’m so heavily disappointed by this experience.. it took so much will for me to seek out counseling and now this. I don't recommend Betterhelp to anyone!
