Why not have an extra someone in your corner
To say 2020 was a tough year would be the understatement of the century. Mid way through the pandemic I felt like I wasn’t going to last much longer on this earth if I didn’t get immediate help for my intrusive thoughts. I already had one therapist, but she could only do biweekly and I was in such an abyssal low I needed more support. So I checked out BetterHelp and am extremely happy I did. Being able to text my thoughts and road blocks was such a relief since I could get everything out and also have a reference point instead of a long rambling verbal complaint where things get forgotten or missed. My first therapist was a bust she sent me an automated response after a particularly vulnerable message where I admitted to suicidal thoughts. I almost quit the service, but the humans behind the scenes at BetterHelp reached out, gave me a free week, and connected me with my current therapist Jerrilynn. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! She relates to me on a very personal level of sibling loss, but also holds me accountable when I just want to wallow in the misery. We set weekly goals that I either do or don’t do and then we discuss why that is. Amazing. It’s already made quarantine with my fiancé easier because now I have tools and coping mechanisms in place that allow me to step back and say “this is not your problem this is an issue with my perception one moment please”. So many times we don’t even realize we are projecting ourselves onto the world and humans around us. I always look forward to my BetterHelp sessions and the ability to check in throughout the week if things get overwhelming or I just have specific thoughts I need to bounce off an objective licensed professional. Can’t recommend BetterHelp enough. Life is tough no need to do this journey alone and it’s quite thrilling to see all the ways I’ve been holding myself back and all the ways I can take onus of my life and really start living it.
