Disclaimer: I have prior experience in individual counseling sessions but none with group sessions so my review may reflect the challenges of group counseling in general and not group sessions as they apply to BetterHelp. With that being said, I am pleased with my individual counseling sessions. My counselor has gotten me through a rough spot and my experience with her is equivalent to in-person sessions I've had with counselors in the past. I like that there are journal prompts and that you can share them with your counselor. My counselor has always responded to what I've journaled in a manner that makes it clear she has read and considered my entries. There are 50+ prompts though they could use more. (You can always just write without using a prompt, too--but the prompts are helpful if you aren't sure what to write.) I have attended two group sessions on the same topic, on the same day/same time, for two weeks in a row. The first time, I found the session helpful. There were only four of us and I walked away having learned some things about my own situation. The second one had eight+ people and because most of the attendees were not the same, the facilitator's prompts (through no fault of her own) were repetitive and I got nothing from the group. The groups would be more effective if they had the same people in them from one week to the next. I will attend more groups, but I will not attend the same group each week unless BetterHelp can somehow make membership in a group more consistent (e.g., you sign up for a group and attend it for 4 weeks in a row with no new members allowed, etc.). Like I said, I don't know if my experience is just due to the nature of all group sessions or specific to BetterHelp, but spending most of the second session on introductions and the same questions is not a productive use of my time. The ad that I signed up through mentioned that there are worksheets--but apparently you have to ask your counselor about these. Mine has never mentioned these (maybe they don't apply to my issues--I don't know). Because I find writing out my thoughts helpful, and because I believe that there are many areas of my life where I could grow (not necessarily just the areas that I'm specifically talking to my counselor about), I would like access to all worksheets at my own discretion (with the ability to share them with my couselor like I can share my journal entries). I have reached out to the admins at BetterHelp to ask questions a couple times and usually get a response that is clear and that answers my questions. Bottom like: I recommend BetterHelp 100%. It is a much better value than what I would get going to an in-person counsellor and while I am not thrilled with the group sessions for the reasons I described above, they are still a value-add to BetterHelp's offerings. If you think you *might* benefit from a counsellor, sign up NOW. You are important, and BetterHelp can help you work through the challenges in your life.

BetterHelp is an amazing program. I was matched with a therapist within hours and she was a perfect fit. Now I’ve been doing therapy for weeks and feeling much better. Their customer service is also great and always responds in a timely manner.

This year was extraordinarily challenging. I returned to college after more than 20 years, moved, then had to move again, while struggling with a sudden return of severe asthma symptoms, working from home, entrepreneurism Mary Kay, training my therapy dog and a hairline fracture of the sacrum (back). Thank God for those in my family that encourage and support me. Even if that support is just saying I love you, keep going and get help. Reminding me to take time to take care of myself too. Thank God for my tribe at BAC (Born Again Church) and B4L and my extended family that God has woven into my life for His plans and purposes. So I listened to myself and my aunt and I sought help. The first program I used was awful. But this platform has been amazing from start to now. I wholeheartedly recommend it. And plan to use it again if I need to. God designed us to fellowship with Him and each other. Learning how to do that in healthy ways in today's crazy society sometimes requires a little help.

When I joined better help, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Right off the bat I noticed how easy and straight forward the app was. I appreciated all of the questions they ask before matching you with a therapist. Once I was matched, I had my first appointment and I couldn’t be happier with who was chosen for me! I enjoy our sessions plus the “home work” i am given. I would highly recommend BetterHelp to anyone who needs to take the first step in getting help for themselves.

I had my first video therapy session on May 4 and it was a great experience from our conversation to her finding out more about me and giving me assignments (tips) to help me love and appreciate myself more. Coretta is amazing and I can't wait to do more sessions with her.
