I was gifted a 3 month subscription to Better Help from a ME TOO event and was very disappointed in the lack of experience I found to be true with 2 seperate therapists.
These women were unfeeling, inexperienced and had no knowledge on how to treat a sexual assault survivor regardless of how old they were.
I had to share my horrific story over from the beginning with each of these therapists and they were more interested in hearing about my pain instead of making a plan to treat my pain.
I will NEVER AGAIN use Better Help!!!!

Hello Joanna and thank you for your valuable feedback. As with in person therapy, we understand it can take a few tries before finding that right fit. To this end, we allow our members to switch therapists at anytime and for any reason.
That said, it can be hard having to start fresh with a new therapist but our Member Success team is always available to assist in the ways most supportive to you reaching your goals. To ensure we are able to further address your concerns, I am going to request the email address associated with your BetterHelp membership, though a TrustPilot form you will receive shortly.
Looking forward to speaking,
BetterHelp Team

Better Help was incredible by matching me with a wonderful therapist. The process was easy and fast, and I would recommend it to everyone seeking emotional support.

Decent for customers but very bad for the therapist
this app is really valuable because it's helping people to access therapy that would not be able to otherwise. There are a few drawbacks that I will mention below. However, even people with very expensive insurance like me might need to use this service because unfortunately in America our insurance is so bad: My co-pays are almost $100 per session with insurance And who can afford $400 a month out of pocket?
The great things about BetterHelp are that you have the ability to select between therapists and you can just meet by video on your phone which is super convenient. It is also affordable out of pocket.
Some of the drawbacks include the fact that they pay their therapists a pittance, So most of the therapists that you are going to find on their platform are unfortunately not very good to be honest. If you do find a good therapist it might be competitive and they are basically doing this out of the goodness of their heart for almost 0 money. BetterHelp create incentives and a pay structure whereby the therapists are incentivized to talk to their clients for as little time as possible and they need to have something like 30 clients per day in order to make a very minimal basic salary. I think that BetterHelp is extremely exploitative towards the therapists. frankly I think that this needs more investigation.
But from the customer side I would probably recommend it just know that you are not going to get the best therapist and it's not really suited to do a deep dive on trauma or anything like that. It is good for light therapy check-in once a week, And it is certainly better than nothing! That therapist I am working with I feel very lucky to have found she is lovely. But again they don't pay her enough to do really heavy lifting with me. I think they only make like $15 a session or something shocking like that. Unbelievable.

Definitely worth it!
I would definitely recommend BetterHelp to anyone looking for accessible, flexible mental health support. It’s a solid option whether you're trying therapy for the first time or looking for a convenient alternative to in-person counseling.

All of us need mental and emotional…
All of us need mental and emotional help in various levels. Like in physical help, there are a minority of people who need extremely intensive care, but most of us just need to eat our vegetables. Betterhelp is probably not enough for those of us who need extremely intensive care, but it's more than enough for the majority who just need affordable and easy access to someone who is paid to listen and can tell you that you are more or less sane. Betterhelp is my mental health vegetables, and I'm happy to be using this great service.

They bill in advance on a recurring…
They bill in advance on a recurring subscription plan.
Consider this:
You are in need of help
You take the step to reach out via their web site
You take time to complete their lengthy questionnaire
You are informed what the subscription fee will be and that you'll be matched to a therapist next
You are NOT accurately informed that you will be instantly billed, no matter how long it takes to match to a therapist. You get billed just by hitting Next.
You CANNOT cancel your subscription, only the recurrence of it. Which means you must email or use the web form to contact customer service to get a refund.
All of these are dark patterns: Make promises for instant help that never get met, make the customer invest their time so they're reluctant to then walk away and waste that effort, don't disclose when billing actually happens and also make it very difficult to cancel currently active billing.
I got caught because I had tried BetterHelp once before years ago, but found the therapist useless at that time. So my credit card details were still on file. I assume at least other people signing up would have been prompted to enter credit card details, and that might be a clue they get billed up front...
This company follows a completely Amercian business model - everything really is about profit and throughput, not actual care. I'm sure the therapists themselves care and want to help, but the business that BetterHelp has built around connecting that service to clients is just unconscionable.

I've decided update this review following a Reply on TrustPilot from BetterHelp next day, as their reply here looks nicely placating but is NOT representative of fact:
1) BetterHelp opines that I "may have .. missed or misunderstood" information. Actually, the sign-on process is best described as *misleading*. My recommendation to BetterHelp? Stop shifting blame to users, and take an actual look at your UIX for the case where a credit card is already on file with an account. The site does present *options* for subscriptions and a Continue button. It does not indicate that continuing is an instant commitment to a subscription, and indeed never issues any kind of receipt, just takes you to a "matching you to a therapist" screen - which can take days btw.
2) No, cancellation is NOT an option through the account, so stop claiming that. It's true that users can cancel FUTURE recurring billing, but any error in the current billing cycle requires a phone call to USA (taken from the CC charge details), or an email which has 24hr turnaround time, or using a web form. BetterHelp may feel comfortable saying "cancellation is always an option" but please consider the actual user UIX: Cancellation simply CANNOT be done through the account for an erroneous subscription.
3) I got a reply from BetterHelp via email, and I find that despite clearly requesting (demanding) full cancellation and refund, I got asked if I wanted to continue - which is a customer retention dark pattern. So now it's likely another 24 hours before the next reply comes.
4) I got quicker replies to this TrustPilot review, than I did to my actual email to customer service, as a registered account holder. As I said in my original TrustPilot review, surely that speaks plainly of where BetterHelp's priorities lie...!
For the record, for any others reading this review, I have indeed responded to BetterHelp's request for email & contact information via TrustPilot, so they know who I am, and I will now see if they are able to "turn [the] experience around".

Hi Andrew,
We do apologize for any confusion you may have experienced while registering for your BetterHelp membership. While we do note during the registration process when and how often charges will be incurred, we understand this may have been missed or misunderstood.
Additionally, cancellation is always an option through your account but you are correct, our Member Success team is available anytime you need further assistance or have any concerns.
To ensure we are able to turn your experience around, I am going to request the email address associated with your BetterHelp account. You will receive a TrustPilot form shortly so you can provide this information.
Looking forward to speaking soon,
BetterHelp Team
