I've previously rated BetterHelp highly, but my recent experience has been extremely disappointing. I need clarification on a confusing invoice for my health insurance company, but BetterHelp has been completely unresponsive and unhelpful. Despite multiple attempts, their replies haven't addressed my questions, particularly regarding the inconsistent amounts and frequencies on the invoice. This lack of billing transparency, both in their communication and on their website, is concerning. The resulting lack of reimbursement creates a financial hardship, and their lack of support has been very upsetting. They incorrectly assume that no insurance would reimburse based on their limited knowledge of US insurance practices, dismissing the fact that my European private insurance has reimbursed me for BetterHelp sessions for the past three years, sometimes even in full. Some information on billing and services has to be searched for in the FAQ, and it's neither easily accessible nor comprehensive, contributing to the overall lack of transparency.

We're sorry that we were not able to provide the formal documentation you needed in this case, MeliVanilli. We try to make it clear in our FAQ page that a BetterHelp membership is generally not covered by health insurance, which is why we try to keep our prices low, and comparable to the co-pays for many insurance plans. We bill for the membership itself, not for a set number of live sessions, which is why we are unable to break out the pricing per session.

DO NOT WASTE your money in this company. I was very hopeful to get excellent service from them. Obviously the sessions are quite expensive as well. Anyway which disappointed me the most is I need a the assessment letter which verify that my current mental health situation. I need to give it to my work place but they’re denying to give it to me. I am very disappointed by their response

We're really sorry that you weren't able to achieve what you had hoped through BetterHelp, Hasnahena. As a platform, we don't have the ability to provide these assessments directly, as they have to be done by mental health professionals directly. Most therapists working on our platform have the ability to do this with their in-person clients, but may have different restrictions by their licensing boards when it comes to providing certain documentation to clients in an online setting. We leave this to the professional discretion of each therapist.

Over the years, I have worked with several therapists. However, my BetterHelp therapist had insights that no other came close to and I feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel. She's professional yet I know she cares. I highly recommend BetterHelp to anyone and have recommended it to my friends already.

It's fine for what it is I suppose. I honestly don't like that there's not an option to have appts scheduled bi weekly and to be charged according to that instead of weekly regardless of whether I attend sessions each week or not. I'm not into group therapy so that's a wasted option for me for the weekly price. I don't have the option to pause membership for the bi weeks either so I'm still iffy on whether I'll try to continue but I'm giving myself a month to see if it's worth it. I will say I was matched with a therapist that meets my needs and in two sessions has been extraordinarily helpful in guiding me back to a place where I feel like I can control my mental health again. Overall would I recommend this platform? I'm undecided.
