Two Failed Deliveries, Broken Assurances, and a Refund I Never Requested
I ordered a Beautyrest World Class Level Three Medium Pillow Top King for $2,299 during Labor Day. After more than a month of trying to resolve two failed deliveries, I ended up with no mattress, two lost days off work, and missed promotional opportunities. Most frustratingly, Beautyrest processed a refund without my consent while I was still trying to negotiate a replacement. The first mattress arrived visibly stained, so I refused delivery. RXO inspected the issue and told me directly in text messages, which I still have, that the warehouse manager had rejected the inspection findings. Beautyrest acknowledged the problem. During that first delivery dispute, customer service told me: “If we had been aware of a mattress condition that did not meet our standards, we would not consider it acceptable for delivery.” I accepted a $330 partial refund and continued trying to complete my purchase. I was even told that Quick Ship could no longer be restored because I had accepted the partial refund. Despite that setback, I remained patient and continued waiting for a proper replacement. Then, on October 1, the replacement delivery turned out to be the exact same mattress I had previously rejected. This was not just a suspicion: Beautyrest acknowledged in writing that the previously rejected mattress had been redelivered by mistake. The affected area was now covered with tape, which was not present in the photos from the first delivery. RXO again told me that the warehouse manager had rejected the inspection findings. The contradiction was infuriating. Beautyrest had explained its own quality standards to me, yet the same rejected mattress was sent to my home a second time. Despite repeated apologies, the company would not provide meaningful assurances that this would not happen again. They would not confirm that a different warehouse would fulfill the order, that the rejected mattress had been removed from circulation, or that the replacement would be inspected before shipment. I was simply expected to trust them again after they had already sent the same unacceptable mattress twice. I kept negotiating because I wanted the mattress I had paid for, not a refund. Beautyrest eventually offered a $660 discount on a new order priced at $2,499, bringing the price down to $1,839. But the same mattress was already available from another retailer for $2,099. The $260 savings offered little reassurance when Beautyrest could not guarantee that the next delivery would be any different. Why should I take another chance on a company that had already failed twice, especially when it refused to provide even basic safeguards against a repeat of the same mistake? The only concrete thing Beautyrest offered was a price of $1,839. There was no meaningful guarantee, no clear accountability, and no reason to believe the next delivery would go any better. When I raised these concerns, Beautyrest did not address them or work with me toward a solution. Instead, the company processed a refund without my consent while I was still trying to negotiate a replacement. Its response included: “You can purchase directly through our retailer.” After more than a month of waiting and trying to resolve problems caused by its own delivery process, this felt dismissive. The message was effectively that if I would not accept its terms and take the same risk again, I should simply buy the mattress somewhere else. In the end, I got my purchase money back and nothing more. I lost two days off work, missed Labor Day deals elsewhere, and lost another quarterly promotional opportunity I could have used for a different purchase. The initial $330 partial refund was part of the overall refund arrangement, not additional compensation for the second failed delivery or my lost time. None of these losses was meaningfully addressed. I have photos, text messages, and written correspondence documenting this experience, even though I cannot attach all of that evidence here. I cannot review the mattress's comfort because I never received an acceptable mattress. I can, however, review how Beautyrest handled the order: repeated delivery failures, assurances contradicted by what happened, apologies without meaningful action, and a refund imposed while I was still trying to negotiate a replacement. I gave Beautyrest every reasonable opportunity to make this right. I was willing to be patient, accept a partial refund, and keep working toward a solution. All I asked for was the mattress I ordered and reasonable assurances that the same mistake would not happen again. Beautyrest failed to provide either. I would not buy directly from them again.
