Don't trust the reviews

Seeing the other complaints for Apartments.com solidifies my concerns they purposely do not post negative reviews. I submitted a terrible (long) review for my former complex in Tampa, FL by the name of Andover Place at Cross Creek (UDR Property Management). The last review for this complex was done in 2021 and its now 2023. The reviews are horrible, and I knew that for a fact, because my old neighbors stated they had posted complaints as well and I see nothing from last year at all. It shows nothing since Sep 2021! So apparently, Apartments.com is most likely profiting from doing this. Most likely payoffs from property management companies, as well as property managers. This falls under deceitful advertising and entrapment and can lead to residents suffering at the hands of crappy landlords and stuck in leases without much recourse. I will be contacting The Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I work in fraud and have resources to make aware of this type of behavior. At least raise some flags. I would suggest anyone with the same concerns to do the same. There may be a chance for a class action lawsuit.

I rented two apartments using the website Heritage Green Apartments and Ormsby Lofts and I was charged more than the listed price online even with the online rental price remaining the same lower price for a year or more. Apartments.com keeps rejecting honest reviews that would warn a single person like me without kid's on the down sides of renting from evil, corrupted office manager's that steal from tenants or will ignore a tenants when they file maintenance complaints. Apartments.com aids these properties and landlords in committing various types of fraud by not allowing tenants to post honest reviews.

Ratings on the website are totally fake. They claim that it's a "Blended Score", but it's just an excuse to inflate ratings on terrible apartments.

They have one of my tenants locked out of her account because she changed her phone number. You can't get anyone on the phone from customer service and the support email doesn't get a response.. They also didn't charge one of my other tenants rent in August, again, no support to resolve it. I've been on hold for over 30 minutes and don't really expect anyone to pick up at this point

I listed my rental property and paid $100 for advertising . I did not get any leads for $100 charged for placing my property at the top of my search. within two days I called customer service to stop the ads and refund the ad charge. Support followed up with an email requesting for more details which I provided immediately. Its about a month now but still no response or resolution. I expected them to at least let me know its not possible to refund instead of not responding at all Lesson learnt, don't pay for the listing on Apartments.com. I was able to get bunch of leads for no charge on Zillow and other sites.

Caught them trying to steal money. I bet they get away with it often. You apply for an apartment, are directed to them to submit the application, the fee is explained by the agent as just like any other fee, then you notice that it is recurring when it is too late. I'm sure they have some tiny print somewhere covering them, but the process is unethical. Luckily, I saw the word 'recurring' when reviewing my debits and was able to cancel in time. That was pure luck.

Update 2026: Still happening. Apartments.com continues to profile 5 start ratings about certain apartments, but once you click in, you see that this is CLEARLY not the case. Do not be fooled and check reviews on Google and otherwise. Always dig deeper because this is where you and your loved ones will live. Bad management = poor quality of life.
