BE GONE ACE Hardware
Well, I see I'm not the only one that's had it with Ace! I also am a rewards member. I like many others will NEVER shop here again. On 11/29 I placed a very simple (or at least I thought) two item order online. As a rewards member I was offered free home delivery and given the opportunity to pick the day of my delivery! This is great, I thought! In the a.m. of 11/30 I received an email from Ace entitled "Your order has an update." I had picked this day for delivery, so thought it must be informing me that it was on its way. Wrong! On this email was my original order number and an additional order number. They needed to obtain one of the items from a different store, though the website stated they had it in stock at my local store. It also said not to come to the store to pick up my order yet, they would notify me when it was ready for pick up. Um, huh? I called customer service to clarify this was to be a home delivery and to see if the items would then be coming in two separate deliveries. I was told that delivery meant deliver to the store. Um, no that was a separate option (shipping, store pick up or home delivery.) Furthermore, they could find no order under either order number or my name. Call back in a half hour. Wait, what? Call again and wait another indeterminate amount of time to speak to another ill informed call center rep? Don't think so. They said they would call me back. They did, with no answers. I asked to speak with a supervisor who reiterated that I had requested store pick up. Again, no. Check the original order. It clearly states delivery and my address. Said supervisor then admits that I am right, but can't find the second order they generated for the item that had to come from another store. He stated he would look for it and call me back by the end of the day. After no return phone call from him, at 10 pm I again called customer service. I will spare you most of the irate conversation I then had with them, except the part where I told them to keep their items, their rewards program (which is clearly worthless) and immediately cancel my order. I requested an order cancellation number for confirmation. I was then told that they could not provide that as they couldn't cancel the order yet. The item that they were transferring to my local store for "pick up" had to arrive at that store before the cancellation could be completed and she couldn't call the store as it was past store hours. WHAT??!! Oh, but she would definitely send me an email in the morning (12/1) to let me know she had started the process. On 12/1 no email arrived. Again I get to call incompetence central! Oh goody! By now I start my conversation with what a crappy company with completely unacceptable business practices and customer service this company has and how disgusted I am by all of it. Much to my surprise the customer service rep tells me she is feeling much the same way I am about this place in general, but unfortunately she cannot only NOT cancel my order, but she cannot even look either number up as their computer system is entirely down. Well, now there's a surprise! NOT. Today is 12/2 and I have yet to see a cancellation email. Again, a phone call to customer service. Again, I am told that they cannot do this until the item reaches the store I picked to "pick up" the item, but they have noted that I want it cancelled. Also, they see that the troublesome (my word, not theirs) item is ready for pick up at it's original location, so as soon as it reaches my local store the cancellation process will begin. How long will that take, I inquire. Well, no one seems to know (shocking, NOT!) With any luck Ace will be out of business before my cancellation occurs. It would clearly be worth the amount of the charge and I would oddly feel somewhat vindicated. Additionally, I could dispute the charge with my great credit card company and have it reversed. BE GONE ACE HARDWARE! PS. I have purchased the same two items from another business (12/1) and received an email today that they will be here tomorrow! And, BONUS, they have a rewards program I am a part of, so the order was $10 less than it was through Ace.
