Wild Idea Buffalo is unlike any other meat company. We began with a vision of actually improving the eco-system of the Great Plains. Our buffalo are raised on the wide open spaces of South Dakota where they eat only the native grasses beneath their feet. They spend their whole lives roaming freely on thousands of acres, and never see a feedlot or slaughterhouse. The result is better lives for the bison, the restoration of over 100,000 acres of the prairie, and sweet, delicious red meat that is actually good for you. Not such a wild idea after all!

The bison is great. I only had trouble one time, out of many shipments, in the mid summer, when about 3/4 of my order was thawed. The box was half full, with not enough ice in it to get 1200 miles. So I ate the buffalo sooner, which was a wonderful thing in itself. Thanks to Wild Idea for figuring out how to get buffalo onto the Great Prairie! (and to get me a taste of it 1200 miles away.)

We have been customers since nearly the beginning. This is the real deal, quite different from the bison for sale in stores and restaurants. That meat is generally grain finished, and is dark red due to adrenaline from a trip to the slaughterhouse. Dark red color is not a virtue, it is an indicator of a major flaw. Wild Idea meat is grass fed and harvested on the range. Pink, not red. Basically what the Native Americans ate. Unsurpassed flavor and texture. The company is a family owned and operated business. The people you talk to there are true believers. They are really easy to do business with. BTW, if you ever have a chance to visit the ranch, DO.
