For peace of mind, I always insure major trips with TinLeg. The company is reputable, its rates are competitive, and the TinLeg website makes it easy to compare plans, obtain a quote, and purchase a policy.

We made a two-part claim. One for minor medical due to a temporary lung infection. Tinleg reimbursed. We filed a 2nd and much more costly claim when our connecting flight Dublin-LHR was cancelled due to AerLigus pilot strike. Knowing we would be stranded and unable to fly back to U.S.. we immediately purchased much more expensive replacement tix on British Air. Without these replacement tickets, we would have had to miss and rebook our LHR-SFO flight home, costing, no kidding, $10,000 easy. Yet. Tinleg denied claim for the replacement connecting flight DUB-LHR, saying essentially "policy does not provide coverage to rejoin a trip". What? If we did not purchases replacement tix for cancelled flight there would be no trip to "rejoin". Unfair policy, clearly intended to penalize independent travelers who often do what we must to make it home with strikes, overbooking, limited flight schedules, etc. I hope Tinleg rethinks their unfair decision. We have used TL since its inception, and recommended it to many others, now, not so much. Perhaps worst of all, when we emailed and called to ask how to appeal this bad decision, no one returned our calls, including the agent in Claims who handled it. In California, consumer protection laws require the right to appeal. Guess now we file a complaint with County Attorney where we live and CA Office of Consumer Affairs, BBB, etc., etc. Tinleg, is a few hundred bucks, compared to the thousands we have paid in premiums over the years, really worth it?

Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback regarding your recent claim. We understand how frustrating this situation has been, and we truly value your continued trust in our services over the years. We're pleased to hear that your medical expenses were reimbursed for the illness you experienced. However, I would like to clarify the details regarding your additional claim for the replacement flight from Dublin to London Heathrow. As per the terms of your policy, Trip Interruption coverage applies when a traveler is returning home after an interruption. Unfortunately, the cost to rejoin a trip is not covered under this benefit. In your case, the additional airfare was to resume your trip from Dublin to London, where you planned to continue your stay before returning to the U.S. on July 5. For this reason, the claim for the replacement flight was denied, as it does not fall within the scope of covered trip interruption expenses. Additionally, it appears that Aer Lingus advised of the flight cancellation on June 22, providing the option to either rebook or cancel. We understand you opted to cancel and purchase new flights with British Airways, and while this decision was undoubtedly made in your best interest, our policy unfortunately does not provide coverage for the additional expense in this specific scenario. Regarding your appeal, our claims examiner promptly submitted it to our underwriter on September 6. The underwriter reviewed the appeal the same day and upheld the original decision based on the policy’s coverage guidelines. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused and understand your disappointment. We always aim to provide clear and timely communication, so we sincerely apologize if you experienced delays in responses from our team. If you have further questions or would like more details about the appeal process, we are here to assist you. Your feedback is important to us, and we will continue to review this situation internally to ensure that we can better serve our valued customers like yourself. Thank you again for your understanding and for bringing this to our attention.
