Positives and Negatives Positives: MBE were helpful including lectures. I did over 1,000 questions and more than likely contributed to my passing of CA Bar exam. Negatives: The essay lectures were really bad. Almost 90% of the essay lectures were useless as the lecturers were reading the outlines without explanations of the subject discussions. The only helpful essay/MBE lectures were Civil Pro and Corporations where lecturers took time to explain issues and provided examples and cases for references. Summary: I passed because I listened to other lectures outside of Bar/Testmax (listened to BarExam Tool Podcasts and were 100% more helpful than Barmax). I also created my own outlines to understand the rule and used OneTimers outlines where I found wealth of explanations about the rule which leads to good to excellent analysis of the rule. Would I recommend BarMax; Yes to utilize the MBE questions banks but NOT for anything else. The problem with the lecturers and creator of this program is that they assume you are as skilled or knowledgeable as the lecturers regarding the subject. They don't know how to teach.

How? Study, focus, be steady, listen to feedback carefully, quickly jump in essays and PT, listen to yourself and take a break when you need it, swim, run, walk, and finally : relax, play hard and enjoy the process.

Good course for someone who is self-motivated and disciplined. The lectures and outlines cover just enough, in simple language, and the webinars with practical study tips tie everything together well. One room for improvement would be a tool to build a study schedule around other commitments (perhaps one that adjusts when you miss or move quicker through a lesson). As I juggled studying and a full-time job as an attorney, I found myself worried that I was "wasting" my precious study time. The tools provided focused on the law student test-taker (able to study for 8+ hours per day every day) and were difficult to extrapolate to a study schedule relegated to evenings and weekends.

I used this program to first pass the DC Bar Exam, and then again to pass the California Bar. The whole process from start to finish was amazing and could not ask for anything more. The feedback on my essays I believe pushed me over the edge and allowed me to pass even in the middle of a pandemic along with taking the bar remotely. Thank you TestMax, i highly recommend your program to both UBE and California Bar Exam applicants.

Passed the CA Attorney Bar on my first attempt with BarMax!

I used this as my main study tool and I passed the bar the first time (by studying really hard and long). I also used Fleming’s to study for the performance exam and I used Emanuel’s simulated MBE questions so I studied a lot. I found the outlines In Barmax were really good as were the audio lectures. Exception: the Community property lecture sounded dis-jointed. The organization of the materials was clear and logical. It is essential that they give you just what you need so that you don’t overdose on trying to learn too much. The answers for explaining some of the MBEs is inadequate and frustrating but I heard it is still better than competing products. I found the flash cards to be inadequate at first Because the question part didn’t prompt the answer asked for on the other side but my understanding is that they are improving the flash cards; they were half done improving the flash cards in October of 2020, they may be done with that by now. Although I only give it 4 stars, I don’t think that there is a better system overall.

California Bar Prep: Poor organization and outline formatting. Videos are dry and unengaging. I passed on my first try using BarMax, but I ended up totally rewriting all of the outlines to make them coherent. Spent significantly more time than should have been necessary to effectively study for the exam due to counterintuitive design of this study material. Edit in reply: The outlines are not formatted to easily convert to memory. Bar study is just a short-term memory game, and these outlines seem more oriented in trying to educate test takers rather than quickly commit the material to memory, and assume you are going to take 3 months off to study, when that isn't realistic except for unemployed post-grads (and who can afford to be unemployed in yet another economic crisis). If you didn't learn anything in law school, these outlines might help, but as someone previously licensed in other jurisdictions and familiar with bar exams and preparation, I was disappointed. One mnemonic per subject is not helpful, and there are no mnemonics that actual get to the analysis steps necessary for essays. You will need to use your own creativity to repackage the outlines in a format that makes them easily remembered. To be fair, the outlines are excellent examples of what you might copy from a gunner 1L year.
