We scheduled a young lady to dog/house sit for October 6-11, 2025. We were meeting our two sons and their families for a vacation in Orlando to explore Universal and Epic theme parks. We scheduled a Meet and Greet prior to our departure and felt confident that our two Shih Tzu fur babies would be taken care of with love and responsibility. The service costs us $562 dollars, almost $100 a day. On October 5th,the day before our trip, I received a text message from our sitter Hannah stating that she was looking forward to staying the week with our dogs. The next day, October 6th, we were packed and waiting on Hannah’s arrival. We expected her at 8:00 AM, but as time passed, no Hannah. I tried texting and calling, but received no response. At 9:00, I was beginning to panic; we were now one hour behind in our travels and no Hannah. I then reached out to Rover’s customer service. There is no person to speak with personally, it’s all through live chat. I chatted that we needed to be on the road, but our sitter had not come nor answered any of my calls or text. The customer service representative tried calling, but could not get Hannah to respond. By now it’s a little past 10:00, and Hannah’s boyfriend called us to say that Hannah was ill and wouldn’t be coming. He also apologized for not answering the phone, they were both ASLEEP and didn’t hear the phone. He apologized but offered no solution. I contacted Rover and they replied that they would try to find a new sitter. When I expressed my concern about a stranger living in my house for a week, the rep suggested that I first have a Meet and Greet to find one that I trusted. SERIOUSLY! I’m now 2.5 hours late and I need to arrive at my Orlando resort before or at the same time as my children to check into the rooms. The reservations were in our names and we were paying for the rooms! I didn’t know what I expected Rover to do, but I was desperate for a solution. I eventually gave up on Hannah and Rover. I called my best friend and had to ask her to leave her family for 6 days to keep my dogs. She graciously agreed, and we FINALLY got on the road to Orlando. Not only did Rover’s service let me down, it put a strain on my sons and their children by not getting into their rooms on time. Additionally, it placed my husband and I into 5:00 Orlando traffic, something we were trying to avoid by leaving early. Lastly, our sitter has yet to contact me to apologize. I do not want to reveal her “illness”, but I will state that it is a situational event that lasts a matter of minutes and does not require a week’s recovery. To be perfectly honest, it was the worse treatment one could receive from any business. Rover refunded my money, but that didn’t undo the anxiety and stress they caused my entire family. I know that I am lucky to have a friend that stepped up when Rover had no solution. If you’re reading this and considering Rover, please read their ratings by BBB. My disastrous experience is NOT an exception. Rover has apologized and given me a $20 credit. This is laughable , because no amount of money would persuade me to reenlist their services.

David S the dog sitter on the Wirral met our 2 dogs at his residence a few months ago and was comfortable with them. He wanted a night with them prior to us going away in December when he would have them for 2 weeks. He had them for 5 hours and called us to come and collect them as he “could not handle them”. He has subsequently cancelled the whole booking after we paid up front months ago. Very unimpressed. Will not be using his or the service of Rover.com again.

I have used 4 different Rover sitters for in-home boarding and Amy and Peter are far and away the best I have found. Their love for animals shone through in the daily videos and photos Amy posted. She was always wagging her tail and seemed so comfortable and happy there. My dog has a sensitive stomach and goes through periods where she doesn’t want to eat and has related gastrointestinal issues. Amy made her chicken and rice and nursed her through the next few days until she would eat her regular food. They have a few animals of their own so she had some additional friends. I’d give them 10 stars if that was an option! I will definitely use them again in the future.
