I cannot begin to express how incredibly disappointed I am with the pet-sitting services provided by Mary and Randy. We made the mistake of trusting them with the care of our dogs, and it turned out to be a nightmare. First off, during our initial meet-and-greet, we made it very clear how our dogs eat, by feeding them in person. Our female eats out of her bowl, and our male eats out of his bowl, which is a slow feeder due to him eating too quickly. Both dogs are trained to eat from their respective bowls only, and we specifically went over these details with Mary and Randy. We even left detailed written instructions in the morning before leaving for our trip. Randy showed up at 4:00 pm, and left shortly after, only to return at 7:00 pm. During the first feeding, Randy COMPLETELY disregarded the instructions. The dogs were confused and anxious because he set down the wrong bowls in front of them. Both dogs were stressed and didn't eat as they should have. It was clear that Randy didn’t care about the specifics of their feeding routine. And then, to make matters worse, Randy covered up our camera, which was monitoring the situation. Shortly after, he was seen on another camera walking outside with a food dish and tossing dog food over the fence. Randy then stayed overnight and was caught on camera taking an alcoholic beverage from the fridge at 8:44 am the next morning. He left around 9:11 am. Later, when Mary showed up around 2:13 pm with another dog in her car, she let the dog out briefly and then locked it back up in the car. I hope this wasn’t a dog that she was watching. She spent only two hours with our dogs, doing absolutely nothing productive. Later that night Randy finally showed up and failed to feed the dogs properly again. He showed up at 7:00 pm, and the dogs had to wait even longer to be fed. He casually walked around the house, fiddling with his phone and turning on the TV while the dogs' food sat on the counter. Randy finally put the food on the floor, this time the slow feeder was upside down and our boy was confused, because the bowl was unfamiliar to him and was seen not eating. Randy then dumped his food into our girl’s bowl. Once again, he covered up the camera and was caught on an outside camera tossing food over the fence again. When I confronted Randy about the situation, he claimed he gave them five minutes to eat and felt that there was plenty of time. This was completely unacceptable, and absolutely absurd. Our girl is a slow eater due to a sensitive stomach, and our boy was once again confused due to his bowl not being familiar to him. Our dogs DO NOT have a time limit to eat. I informed him that we no longer required his services. However, Mary still showed up at the house, and despite my attempts to contact her to let her know we no longer needed her, she ignored me. I had to send my neighbor to ask her to leave. While my neighbor was retrieving the key and garage remote, he noticed she had dropped her bag. When the bag landed on the driveway a bottle inside of it broke and it smelled of alcohol. Later that night, I received multiple harassing text messages from Mary, which only added to the stress of this entire situation. This whole experience has been nothing short of a disaster. Not only did they fail to stick to the agreed-upon schedule, but they also neglected the care of our dogs, causing them a great deal of stress. Both Mary and Randy were clearly uncomfortable with the cameras we had in place, as they repeatedly covered them up to hide their unprofessional actions. We are incredibly grateful that we had the cameras running, because without them, we would have had no idea what was actually happening while we were away. I would not recommend Mary and Randy to anyone, and I strongly advise against trusting them with your pets. Their unprofessionalism and lack of care have made this the most stressful and upsetting experience. If you decide to hire them anyway, I would highly recommend multiple cameras that they can not tamper with to insure that your pets are being cared for appropriately. Update: I contacted Rover directly about this incident and it truly felt like they did not care We could not get a refund for the days that we canceled because “The sitters are independent contractors” and the refund will have to be agreed to by the sitter.

Hi there, we’re really sorry for how upsetting this experience was and appreciate you sharing these details. This is not the experience we expect owners to have on Rover. To clarify, if there were dates where no services were provided due to the cancellation, those days may be eligible for a partial refund based on the sitter’s cancellation policy. For dates where care was provided, any refund would need the sitter’s approval. We’d appreciate the opportunity to revisit this with you. I'd like to use Rover but it won't send me a verification code for my phone, but keeps telling me to try tomorrow. Tried calling the number but it just kept playing me music. Pretty rubbish really. A pity as there are some good sitters near us we'd like to contact.
