We had water coming into our basement due to a clogged drain pipe from our sump pump. I called Roto-Rooter and they said they could send someone to our home between 8 AM and 10 AM. They said the technician would contact us 30 minutes ahead of schedule to let us know they were on their way. At 1:30 in the afternoon, they called my husband to tell him that they thought it was probably just a frozen pipe due to the weather and they were going to cancel the service call because they couldn’t flush the pipe with hot water because it was a PVC pipe. My husband took a day off of work and spent the entire day waiting for them to come. He had to try to solve the problem himself. We will never recommend Roto-Rooter to anyone.

Very overpriced, responsive, nice technicians
Summary: Very overpriced, nice technicians, quick response. $550 for 48 minutes of work from entry to exit.
I was out of town when my disposal clogged and my wife had to deal with it. After she could not get it unclogged, she called Roto-Rooter because it was a name she recognized.
The technicians came the next day. There was an $89 fee to come out that would go toward the work, if performed. They entered my house at 1:57 p.m. and exited at 2:45 p.m. While in the house, they assessed the situation, provided an estimate, and did the work (which was to clean out the t-trap to unclog it; I don’t think they had to snake it). My wife said they were very nice and professional.
The charge was $550 to unclog a disposal that took 48 minutes from entry to exit. After applying a coupon for $25, the total was $529.93.
Because I viewed the price as very high when she told me about it, I decided to call management. Before doing so, I called two local plumbing companies. I described the work that was done, the time it took, etc. One company said they would have charged $279, and the other said that the range for the work would be $300-$500, and this was because it was a weekend (Saturday).
I called Roto-Rooter’s local management and spoke to Jeremy. He was very professional and explained they charge a flat price whether a job takes 30 minutes or 3 hours. This price for this work was $550 in spite of the fact that it only took 48 minutes. He said that the fact that it was on a Saturday did not affect the price.
I try to be fair in reviews, and this was my experience. I suggest you call multiple local, independent companies to get estimates if they are willing to provide them.

Total rip off
Total rip off. No transparency on pricing. Waited for hours the night i called. Repeated delays. Rescheduled and still waited the next morning. What they charge should be illegal. Promised twice that I'd receive a call from a manager and have heard nothing. $675 regular price to declog a kitchen sink. No special plumbing work required.

Don't ever use Roto Rooter!!!!
Don't ever use Roto Rooter. A simple clog opening job ballooned into an unnecessary $11,000 job (yes, 11 thousand $ !!!!). I called a different plumber who opened it for $350. Unbelievable.
Roto Rooter is in the business of fraud. They took $1100 for a simple clog job and provided a 6 month warranty. When I called the day after the clog didn't clear and sewage came up again they suggested the $11K job. In the meantime they also sent someone to offer unnecessary cleaning service for another $6,000 when it was clear that it wasn't necessary as hardly any water leaked.
A regular plumber solved the issue for $350.
If any of the below people from Roto Rooter show up on your door step expect to be stiffed with unnecessary work and pay thousands of dollars for nothing -
1. Jerry Diaz
2. Tyler Jaramillo
3. Frank Mazzaroni

Charged me $1200 to replace a toilet
Charged me $1200 to replace a toilet. This is outrageous and cannot believe they would charge anybody a price like this. Never again. I would contact a local plumber.

I called Roto rooter for a clogged…
I called Roto rooter for a clogged drain and I was told it was a "FREE ESTIMATE" which is false and misleading. The tech came out, looked at my property and told me that he could do the work but that sewage might come pouring in to my basement. He said he would need to get two large garbage cans to catch it but that I would need to sign something incase there was a bad septic spill. So at the END, he told me I needed to pay $150 and that he would put that toward the $700 it would cost to do the job. Mind you he did NOTHING but look at the job and tell me what he was going to do. In the mean time, I called Greenwich drains and they sent a tech out to assess. On the spot, he unclogged the drain (no sewage or spill over, no garbage cans) and charged me $290 total. I called Maria in customer service at Roto rooter and she was rude, patronising and tried to tell me because I signed the paper IN THE END that I agreed to do that work and no refund would be issued. She listened to the original call and AGREED that I was told it was a free estimate and would not be charged. She did not let me speak and kept speaking over me. I finally hung up on her and I was very mad. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. This was not the technicians fault but clearly they teach their techs how to mislead, misdiagnose and OVERCHARGE!!! BEWARE!
