I wish there was a zero-star option. Have had the business service for 10 months and spent HOURS on the phone resolving every kind of issue - frequent missed pick-ups; unable to change auto-pay option; payments were mis-applied and doubled billed. The website is horrendously inaccurate and unusable. I wish I was exaggerating but this is by far the worst service I have ever received from a trash collection provider. It's crazy. I have done everything possible to work with them through the months of poor service but finally tried to give-up today and cancel service today BUT after talking with their representative they told there was a service agreement 'prohibiting" cancellation before the year was out unless I paid for the full year. She could not find a service agreement on file, but "thought" there was one. I stated I wanted to see the non-existent sales agreement. So it's still all up in the air. PLEASE use this review information when you evaluate using this service; yes, they are slightly cheaper than other options; yes, they have small bin options for businesses, but the aggravation of the "service" is off the scale.

Since this company took over from our previous disposal service, it has been nothing but problems. There have been many missed pick-ups. I am now being charged a late fee because I had yet another missed pickup in July. I divided my monthly bill by 4 and made a payment, minus the missed pickup. I was charged a late fee for not paying for a pick-up that never occurred. I called and was eventually told that they would remove the late fee, but that they would charge me even if they do not pick up the trash, and that it was up to me to demand a credit for a missed pick up. I always pay on time, but I will not pay for something that did not happen. Today I received a bill and am being charged an additional $1.17 (because they are compounding late fees). I called and spoke with an agent who told me I had to pay them $1.17. I am just at the end of my rope with this company. I pay for four pick-ups a month. I deducted one pick-up. This is terrible customer service. I have never dealt with a more unethical company. I cannot believe that this is the manner in which they treat a customer who pays their bill on time. Everyone Should Beware of their unethical tactics.

They raised my rate 2 times in less than a year. Over this time it went from 140 every 3 months to 190 every 3 months. You wait on hold a very long time just to even speak to someone about it.

I rarely leave reviews, but Republic Services deserves this one. Their customer service is abysmal — slow responses, unhelpful agents, and a complete lack of accountability. The costs are astronomical for what should be a basic utility. I was shocked by how much I was paying month after month for inconsistent service and missed pickups. But the final straw? When I closed my account, they charged me $70 just to pick up the old trash can. Yes, you read that right — seventy dollars to retrieve their own equipment. It’s a blatant money grab and a slap in the face to loyal customers. Avoid Republic Services if you value transparency, fair pricing, and decent service. There are better waste management companies out there that won’t nickel-and-dime you at every turn.

even though we are supposed to have trash pick up every week they are only doing it every other week because they send employees to a area that they are on strike with and that makes them short handed. also they are forcing their employees to cross a picket line. This is a company that is over priced on their service and does not care about customers or employees. its sad

Unreliable, misleading, and unprofessional. Do not use. We used Republic Services (Calumet City) for a dumpster rental. After receiving a quote, we were contacted by a rep who lowered the price and promised a Monday delivery. We explicitly said we didn’t want the unit over the weekend. That was our only ask. After paying, the problems started: missed delivery, duplicate contracts, lack of communication, and ultimately a late drop-off with a too-small dumpster. When we asked for expedited pickup (which we were promised), we were passed around from rep to rep until someone finally admitted they wouldn’t pick it up until Monday. This company does not honor its word, and its customer service is a disorganized mess. We lost time, peace of mind, and now have to monitor the dumpster all weekend — something we were told wouldn’t happen. Avoid at all costs.

I don't know why our city decided to not renew the contract with the prior company but they actually worked. We now have Republic services and no one is happy with them. From weather service interruptions to strike interruptions we go weeks between services. Then it takes them weeks to get back on track. Good luck even pushing for a credit on your account on top of that. Trash workers are not highly respected by society and the job isn’t the most desirable either with low pay, low respect and less than desirable job duties. This is an essential service to society because society is no longer built to dispose of trash compared to the more organic past ways of disposing rubbish. Customer service is very friendly but it is challenging to get things fixed appropriately for billing issues, broken trash can replacements or other minor complaints. Our complex is a group service and it is challenging each time I need a new trash can because the workers keep breaking them. We paid for a higher gallon trash can and got sent a smaller one and the city refused to send us the correct size so we asked them for a credit and correct billing which was a headache in it self to fix. I use to go out of my way to appropriately sort trash but now I don’t give a f* and once organization is full I just dump it all into trash. They don’t like taking items such as batteries and other things that should go to proper disposal sites but those places started charging to take that stuff off your hands. Not only does it add up over time it feels more like a scam. Let’s make people pay to take off highly toxic items off their hands. Nope, I just trash that rubbish now. It’s getting more difficult to find free places to dispose of batteries as well. I’m not collecting batteries for 2-5 yrs to get enough to make it worth while to find a disposal site to over charge me for the “collection” process. Nope, this rubbish gets trashed now. Offer more free sites and I’ll be more apt to properly dispose of it. Please stop sending trash collection before 7 am. Not only is this in violation of noise ordinances with many neighborhoods, I’m regretting having Thurs as my late day as it prevents me from sleeping in past my normal wake up time. Your people have come in as early as 550 am and when you do that in the future I’m just calling each time. We do appreciate of the trash services but Republic could focus more on customer service. Unfortunately they’re a monopoly to disposing of trash and we don’t have many competitor options.

My girlfriend and I use Republic Services for our trash and recycling. We have been customers for quite a while. They just had a contract dispute last month and our recycling was not picked up on 07-30-2025. We called Republic about the missed pickup and were told we had to we hold onto our recycling until the nest recycling pickup in two weeks. In the meantime our recycle can is over flowing. So even though we paid extra for our recycling every two weeks and they missed our recycling date that we had already paid for they refused to make good on their agreement. I would not recommend Republic Services to anyone looking for a trash company. They will not make good on their trash pickups. Mike Blocker
