I've played guitar for 30 years, all self taught and never had any real lessons. I felt that I was a good guitar player (played in bands for years) but a poor musician. Being self taught many of the things I played on guitar were just shapes or patterns I found on my own, learning other peoples songs or writing my own and just following my ear. Pickup music has done a great job of filling in the holes for me and pushing me past playing the same old things I've been stuck on for years. Even re-learning things I already found on my own has been helpful to see what it really is beyond some shape I found, and how it ties in with so many other things along the fretboard and maybe some parts I came close to but didn't quiet find on my own. I tried one other online guitar instruction and quickly became bored with "here's today's 3 hot licks" and no real foundation to what was being taught to me. I had no interest in memorizing some pieces just to repeat them but never learning how to use them in a more creative way. I was hesitant pickup music would be the same, but after seeing Daniel Donato had a country pathway and there was two weeks to try it all out I figured why not. money well spent. very happy with the courses, the instructors, quality of the videos etc I paid for a full year, and after a few weeks can definitely see that there's plenty to keep me interested and motivated here.

As a fairly advanced player, with hundreds of gigs and a fair few records under my belt, I was tempted to dive straight into the latter stages of Daniel Donato's country course - but decided, instead, to go from the beginning. And I'm so glad I did. It's a beautifully constructed, and brilliantly taught course. It's reminded me of the essential building blocks, given me new ways of navigating the neck, added lots of riffs, and given me invaluable new ammunition in my country guitar armoury. Unlike other courses, which are often just a mixed bag of licks, Daniel reminds you why you are playing them, and how they fit together, giving you all the tools and knowledge you need to create your own solos. Every level has been a joy - the equivalent of personal lessons, and the Jams and (decent length!) backing tracks are invaluable. I'd heartily recommend the course to players of any level.

I'm on active military duty, a graduate student, and a single father. I have enjoyed music since elementary school and have dappled in recording and arranging. I picked up the guitar while on deployment and have enjoyed it ever since. I have my fair share of in-person instructors and guitar boot camps, but I would always seem to hit a plateau, and the lessons always became me watching the instructor in awe. I found out about Pickup Music through the various marketing ads on social media, and I thought I should try it. It was back to the basics at first, but now I'm midway through the intermediate guitar guitar and the bass for guitar players course. I love that when I'm in a rut, I can do a mini class or learn something new, and the weekly live sessions and a fantastic staff always willing to help are excellent for the low price of one lesson in person. Honestly, I have hesitated to post a feedback video, but I'm getting there.

Incredible start to the journey. Whilst challenging throughout, the approach of the beginners course gives you enough to make it feel like everytime you sit down with the guitar you progress. I've tried many times to learn and this is the first course thats held my attention. It took about 6 weeks to get through the beginners and I cant wait to start the next one. The videos are great, the feedback reviews are great. All in all, pickup music is great!

I've been a user of Pickup for about 6 weeks. In the past I've used Guitar Mastery Method; Truefire and Active Melody. Pickup is both brilliant and massively frustrating. So far, I'd give them 5* for the quality of lessons. They are well structured and there are vital nuggets I haven't gained on any of the other sites. Those nuggets both keep me engaged and improve what I'm doing. After each lesson you get a number of performance pieces you can learn and then submit to Pickup for comment. But this is where the site UI undermines everything. I'd give them 1* or maybe 2* for the way the site operates and their User Interface operability. Yes, it looks great but here's where you can get so frustrated. (I'm undertaking the course on an up to date Ipad which allows me to use Boss Wazza airs and therefore practice whenever I want without disturbing anyone). 1 For no apparent reason the videos can randomly stop and restart at the beginning. This is mildly frustrating. 2 What is worse is that, quite regularly the next video will not load. You get the spinning wheel of death and you have to re-load the entire page and then scroll back down to the video you were viewing. 3 The above two problems are frustrating but nowhere near as frustrating as the fact that I cannot get the practice playback to loop the few bars I am trying to practice. I have to keep reaching for the ipad screen and then scrolling back. Can you imagine how slow and time-consuming it is to keep scrolling back two bars to groove your practice? (Compare this with truefire and Active Melody which let you choose a section to loop as log as you like - Pickup claim you can operate a loop but when you try on an ipad you just get weird blue splodges on the screen). 4 Finally, here's the thing that has driven me to publish this review. You can only playback the practice piece at 0.75% or 1x; you can't gradually increase the speed as you get more proficient. It's a hell of a leap from 0.75 to 1. Both truefire and active melody have a very straight forward, easy to use design that allow you to very gradually increase the speed in % steps. I raised this with Pickup and they recommended using a google chrome app but it appears you can't use this on Ipad and I can't get it to load on PC. And anyway, why couldn't they design this facility into their site in the first place? So, I'm just really frustrated that this is a great learning tool currently ruined by a poor user interface.

As a guitar player who has not played in quite some time. Pickup music has really helped me a lot. Lessons keep it fun as well as challenging to keep you engaged. Very well structured course, love the content.

Pickup Music is fantastic. I consider myself an intermediate player, but started off taking the CAGED pathway and also the Intermediate Pathway. The both of these has really opened up the guitar fretboard for me and elevated my playing. Lots of work to get to where I want to go, but I feel that I am progressing after hitting that "intermediate plateau"
