Pickup MusicReviews of pickupmusic.com

Honestly, I'm not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I've been struggling to find any lessons that had any structure like lessons used to be like, other courses were dedicated to a particular style or learning to shred (which I have no interest in) so decided to give this a go. I started at intermediate level as I wasn't sure how to classify my playing, and yes, some of it is a bit basic for me, but I'd rather skip through stuff I already know rather than jump in at too high a level, and there is always something to learn. I'm going through this grade quickly but I'm definitely learning, and where you don't it's a good chance to get a refresher. I tried the free trial, and no they didn't charge me, and I've had at least three emails reminding me it was coming to an end, so plenty of time to cancel, but I won't be, as I'm planning to work through this, then they advanced intermediate and see how far I can get. If you just want to search YouTube and find free stuff, go ahead, but I think this is well worth my money.

I have just started and it seems good. But I do have a complaint. You promised to remind me of the ending of the 2 week trial period 2 days ahead. No warning came. I probably would have continued anyway. But still. Annoying.

Pickup music is a fab grounding in the world of guitar - Hands on techniques, musical theory and performance. The format is interesting - For 1 week you approach a theme e.g. a mode a day and then you get a choice of performance pieces - Record one, submit it and get feedback. For questions, you can comment on a lesson if you have something you want to pick on, or you can wait until your performance submission and add a summary of how you did or what you'd like to have specific feedback on. One of the really great things Pickup music does is offer really great performance pieces - Especially in the intermediate course with some super musical, catchy melodic vibes that really stretch you in terms of playing and then leave a space for you to improvise or compose something so if you really get in to the piece, you can add some theory and performance on and make it your own. I think the site really suits intermediate players who want to touch on subjects they have not really understood or missed in earlier training or as a supplement to an in-person teacher - Doing some prep work before a lesson on say chords or scales to get some of explanation out there and then they can dive deeper in their actual lesson. If I had a request of the site - It is really around the above - the teachers are really great presenters and I'd love to try and get a 1-2-1 session as part of the subscription and i think it would be totally worth the premium and complement the week-to-week recorded lessons with an examination of the principle or technique in the 1-2-1. I'd certainly recommend it for a the annual cost, totally worth it - The performance pieces with Ariana are spellbinding - Really enjoyable just to 'play play' regardless of how much of theory you absorbed!

This app really needs to have a platform for left handed players. With everything else so far so good.

just finished the CAGEDI pathway. It took me longer than 6 weeks as some days are more challenging (and key) than others.I felt like it was worth investing more time on it. I spend a couple weeks only on some lessons at times where I felt more work was needed on my end. Overall I feel I have learned more in these weeks than in years of practice. Only critique are: i) I feel it would be useful to give some "homework" for some of the key lessons. For example advising the students to play over tracks "x,y,z" to practice improvisation on chord changes. The advice though is still given if you ask a questio. ii) Worth giving more lessons on some key topic such as improvisation on chord changes "outside" the scale Anyway, See you in the CAGED 2 :)

If you're a beginner, intermediate or pro, this program is for you. I like how they display a variety of programs to participate in. I'm already on three different programs from ear training, metal guitar and bass. In my journey of playing guitar, I was stuck and didn't know what to do. Then I found pickup music online. I've only been doing this for 2 months and I can't wait to spend more time playing guitar. I never felt so relieved. This is a great experience for anyone who wants to excel in their guitar skills. I would recommend to this to anyone. These programs will have you picking up your instruments daily.

I had Covid in mid 2024. Stuck at home, I decided to tend my very small guitar collection, futz with the bridge, necks and tuners to try to make it something that I loved to play again. Throughout that process I got to talking to my friends about what they’re doing. One of them mentioned pickup music. I picked it up. I immediately dove into the CAGED method and haven’t looked back. I ended up losing my instruments in the Eaton Fire and came upon a used Strat that replaced my Telecaster. I love playing guitar again. I’m getting in 5 days per week. The Caged lessons, and practicing pentatonic is definitely the way through being hung up on intermediate and fumbling through songs I liked to play. I am hearing music in a whole new light. Practice your scales! CAGED makes that process super fun, digestible and delicious. Listening to the skills of the instructors, especially Molly’s clean and superbly warm tones is inspirational. The lessons are not condescending and it makes you feel like you’re a part of something. I have been telling everyone I know about this system. I only wish there was an app so would be easier to reference my lessons. Hence 4 stars. It can and will improve! I’m doing them all thru a web browser on my iPhone. Gear: Fender Strat. Spark 2 amp and accessories

Very easy to follow
