Straightforward, Private, Reliable
I have been dealing with depression and anxiety for well….years. As a Hispanic male mental health was not something you talked or worried about. Now as an adult I have been unpacking that baggage. I have a therapist and a psychiatrist, been receiving treatment with both for well over a year now and I have been improving, however I did not always want to rely on medication, so I started to look for alternative options. I first discovered the benefits of pets for people dealing with mental health problems through my therapist who mentioned I should get a little companion. Unfortunately, my health care provider would not write me an ESA letter. So, I began looking around for a way to legally obtain one. I live in an apartment complex with a strict no pet policy. The first time I inquired about what the pet policy with management I was informed the property was “pet free,” to my surprise when I got back home from work, I noticed all units had notices on their doors. When I opened my notice, I realized it was a letter explaining the property’s pet policy. I felt like I had narc everyone who lives there. I knew that just bringing in a pet would get me in trouble, and with rents as expensive as they are I did not want to jeopardize my living arrangements. Luckly, I found Pettable after scouring reddit forums. I was a bit skeptical at first but did my due diligence and went straight to the Better Business Bureau’s website and read a lot of reviews. I also went on YouTube and watched a couple of people give their reviews of the service and decided to give them a shot. Making an appointment was straight forward, starting with answering a short assessment. You do have to pay upfront and the $169 was not terrible considering you are seeing an out-of-network therapist. I was promptly given info to book my appointment, it was a Thursday but chose to have it on a Saturday. When I got the name of my provider, I looked them up on the California Department of Consumer Affairs’ website, and sure enough the state recognized their license. This really gave me a piece of mind about the entire process. On appointment day, I received a phone call on time, my therapist was very professional. I shared my concerns and my current treatment with my psychiatrist. He asked me a series of battery questions, not at all uncommon to me since my psychiatrist does the same every four months. He also explained to me the California law regarding ESA, despite being familiar with it, it was a nice touch particularly helpful for those not aware. He was very attentive and really knew where I was coming from. I received my letter a little over 24hrs and my property owner had no problems with it. The following Tuesday I adopted a kitten from the local animal shelter. Overall, I would absolutely recommend the service, you use a real provider who will listen and help you.
