Like any insurance, it’s tricky and there are stipulations. That being said, I had a fantastic experience working with Patrick through customer service. My dog Mahina was not couldn’t keep anything down for a week & became very lethargic, we knew something was wrong. I had spoken to a vet with Pawps chat service, Mahina at the time wasn’t an emergency. When she became an emergency at the emergency vet hospital, Pawp came through and supported us. Our vet sent Pawp the intake notes & estimate, they reviewed it for 24-48 hrs and they allowed our emergency fund to be accessed. If not, I’m not sure what we would have done… we’d be 3,000 more in debt. At $19/month, this service is completely worth it in case of a real emergency.

Wholehearted Recommendation, But Understand It Doesn't Work Like Traditional Pet Insurance
I recommend Pawp wholeheartedly, but you need to understand what you're getting for $19/month. The tele-vet access is very useful for avoiding the cost and time of in-person vet visits for run-of-the-mill pet issues. Regarding the emergency fund for life threatening emergencies, think of it as only kicking in if you're in a situation where you have to choose between treatment or euthanasia. The tricky part is a Pawp tele-vet must determine, before you take your pet in for treatment, that the condition is life-threatening. And for some situations it can be hard, over the internet, to get this right without a physical exam. There's a lot of grey area where your animal looks fine on the video, your description of his symptoms is vague bc you're freaking out, she's sick but not dying when you first call, then later craters, and so forth.
My experience:
My male cat stopped eating, was lethargic and hadn't peed for at least a day. He'd just had a urinary obstruction cleared a couple days prior, so I suspected he was re-blocked. A cat with a full urinary blockage can die in a day or two, so I called Pawp to activate the emergency fund. Long story short, the vets did not view this as an emergency. One said take him in in the next 24-48 hours, the other said watch him for 6 hours to see if he'd pee. To be fair, sometimes a UTI or bladder inflammation looks a lot like a blockage, when you have more than one cat it can be hard to figure out if one of them isn't peeing, and in a big cat finding their bladder isn't as easy as you'd think. Also, my regular vet (who was out of town) hadn't viewed Sebastian's situation as terribly serious--he released him a couple hours after catheterizing and flushing him and didn't keep him for any observation or testing to ensure he didn't re-block. I ended up taking Sebastian to the emergency vet. He had a complete blockage -- the ER vet said my options were clearing it and a 2 day catheterized hospital stay etc. to make sure it was cleared this time, or euthanizing Sebastian.
I subsequently contacted Pawp about the claim denial. Even though their vets had determined it wasn't life-threatening, it clearly was a do-or-die situation for my little dude. Patrick and Neera were great. They responded quickly, maintained good communication with me, and Pawp ended up covering the claim.
I've since recommended Pawp numerous times. It's a great option especially for folks with multiple pets and/or limited budgets. It's coverage is limited, but if it keeps you from having to put down a pet, it's worth it.

I was relatively new to pawp when tragedy struck. My little man became quite ill. I followed the instructions and spoke with a vet, sending videos and pictures at her request. The Doctor said we had an emergency and sent us to the hospital. Unfortunately our little guy didn’t make it. The vet hospital staff were great with the emergency, however didn’t want to hear a word about pawp.
So I left with my bill unpaid. I contacted pawp and spoke with Patrick first and later Qi both were wonderful ! Patrick got the ball rolling and was very understanding of the issue at hand. Between them the bill was paid as promised by pawp. I will continue my membership for our other pets and eventually a new pet too. I have already told at least 10 pet parents about Pawp.
I highly recommend Pawp.

My experience with Pawp was horrible…
My experience with Pawp was horrible Today our puppy died due to pawp negligence. There vet misdiagnosed the problem now our puppy died and they would not pay for the vet bill even though it said on the site the funds were activated by the vet. Never in my life will I ever trust a virtual doctor for a pet or myself. A body can't be diagnosed without seeing seen in person and run tests this here should be illegal..
I verified there not registered with no insurance commission in any state and there business is an apartment complex address. The department of insurance in Wisconsin is involved I will shut them down . Jojo will have justice.
In reply to your a answer your company failed to pay my final invoice here is a video is anyone wants to see is on fb i will make it public on fb type pawp and jojo ive posted it all over fb
My number if there is any victims is 4l4 24l 699l

Your company always has excuses maybe if u cared enough. You would have covered my bill like it said on your site. Which was not covered and your rude billing company of yours called us when we were grieving our baby and all he did was give us rude service . We have another record call when he told us that even though you payed the $3000 we still Had to come up with more money because otherwise our dog was going to die and he started getting into our business it’s none of his business his job was to pay and that was it we don’t need your company’s opinion as far as what we do with our pets that is totally uncalled for they need to focus on processing the claim and that’s it what the problem that everybody is having is that your claims people are fuc@@@ @ssholes that is reality. They treat your customers like 💩 and we’re not the only ones look at Mr. donn black he also had the same experience he had to end up paying close to $5000 for his injuries for his pet and illness and you guys still have not reimbursed him for anything and there’s many other people and we’re going to contact each and everyone of them. And we will mixer our voices are heard. What your company did to us was a slap on the face not only did we follow protocol and we listen to your vet but because we listen to your vet that one day made a difference and we could’ve saved our puppy now our puppy died thanks to your awful service. So don’t come at me with your long lecture that the data because you know what we ended up coming up with the money to give us a down payment so they could see your puppy the problem is that your employee or whatever company did not follow protocol I have found two other people that you did the same thing to and at this point I have the government involved this should not be happening to anybody especially if someone is paying you for a service. We are very upset not we will let a judge decide . We want dr gabbys last name want to insure she was an actual dr not some fake one like your soposably insurance company that you claim is something else yet you act like and insurance company the problem is all your clients think your an insurance company so does the department of insurance. Plus i cant believe you blocked me on fb on you customer page and also other victims .

Hi Alex,
Our support team has been attempting to reach out to you in order to help better understand what happened in this case. Losing a pet is one of the hardest things to go through, and I'm so very sorry for your loss.
To clarify, Pawp does not provide the deposit for emergency care, but rather we provide payment for the final invoice paid directly to the clinic. I apologize if there was any confusion about this. We provide up to $3k towards the final invoice of the emergency.
Pawp is not an insurance company, and we do not claim to be. We provide a one-time emergency fund that can be used towards one emergency per year. Our online team provides teletriage and teleadvice, and will activate the emergency fund, as they did in this case, when an animal requires immediate medical assistance. It is not possible to diagnose online, and our vets do not provide that service, only teleadvice and teletriage.
I do hope to hear from you soon so that we can get this matter resolved in the best way possible, including coverage for the final invoice as our emergency fund provides. Again, I'm so sorry for you loss.
Best,
The Pawp Support Team

My Rocco (canine) got sick over night…
My Rocco (canine) got sick over night with rapid breathing, chest inflamed and trembling. I told the vet and send about 6 videos at their request. After two vets saying for me to wait to the next day and that they would not open the claim tool
My Rocco anyway to the ER in Yonkers were caring vets gave him care. I was scared and thought i was insured by keeping my monthly payments for this emergency service.
My pet is saved by a miracle because if i had followed these instructions my Rocco wouldn’t be here today.

Hi Ana! I'm so sorry to hear about Rocco, but I'm glad he pulled through! Our vets are trained to triage life-threatening emergencies, which is what the emergency fund is meant for. Thank you for your feedback. We'll be happy to re-evaluate your case to make sure that all processes were followed.
Please reach out directly to [email protected] and we'll take it from there.
Thanks again for your feedback.
Best,
Pawp Support Team
