I really tried to give this bank a shot. About a year ago my bank I had been with for 20 years was acquired by M&T. I have had nonstop issues, getting declined at my local grocery stores every single time. My fraud alerts come hours later and only to have me call. Today I actually received the alert at the time of trying to purchase, I called, got redirected 3 times, all while standing at the register. Put on hold for 10 minutes, to be told to take money out of an ATM before I shop so this won’t happen. Excuse me, what!? I have had it with M&T, I will be taking my business and money elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and choose another bank if you are considering M&T.

I wish I could give 0 stars!! This the absolute worst banking experience! Ahhhhhhh!!! Super long hold times and very rude customer service! Worst thing is my home loan was bought by them so I did not have a choice in choosing

Terrible service from this bank/lender. The customer service lied to me repeatedly almost every single time I had to call them. Upon paying off our loan, even after the final payment was taken from my bank, M&T refused to give me any sort of proof of payoff. My access to the app and the website was removed "because the account was closed". Yet they refused to email me any proof of payoff. I was in the process of buying a new RV and trading the old one (we just paid off) in, and M&T made me wait 10 business days before they would snail-mail my proof of payoff. Then an issue that was partially my fault, I had forgotten to cancel my auto-pay from my bank. So after payoff, an additional payment was accidentally sent to M&T through ACH. I called M&T immediately, they said I had to wait until the payment cleared. Once it cleared, I called back. I asked them to send that payment back through ACH. The representative said they would do what they could. A week later, no refund, so I called back. I was then informed that they usually send any kind of refund back through snail mail, but would check to see if it could be sent back through ACH seeing that is how they received it. They put me on hold for a few minutes. When they returned they said they could do it by ACH and that I should have it in a few days. A week and a half later, still no refund. I called again. This time they said there was some sort of misunderstanding and that the ACH was processed that morning, and that I should have it in 3 days. 5 days later, I called my bank to see if it was pending. My bank saw nothing. I called M&T again. This time they told me that they don't send refunds by ACH and that a paper check was mailed out 2 days ago. Today I finally got a refund check. Almost a month after the initial call for a refund. And the check is dated the day of the final phone call. Avoid this dishonest lender!

DO NOT TRUST THIS BANK !! My PERSONAL and SECURED information was taken by M&T Bank employees (Genesee St, Utica, NY) and used for their personal gain. I have the proof and I’ve contacted M&T Bank twice to file a formal complaint and request an investigation. NO ONE has even attempted to contact me regarding this matter.

If I could rate M&T a zero it would be more accurate. My former bank was purchased by M&T last year. Concurrently I paid off the mortgage I had with the former bank. I'm preparing for my taxes and need to get access to my tax statements for 2022. After repeated attempts to access my online account and waiting on hold for nearly 30 minutes for a customer service person I was told that my information was no longer accessible online. She politely told me I had to talk to someone in the mortgage and that she would transfer me to the person directly. She did. Unfortunately she failed to mention that their offices are closed today and the line just hung up on me. Horrible service!

I purchased a car with a GAP insurance plan. I was fortunate enough to pay my car off early Feb 14th through M&T and the nightmare begins. We went to the dealer to inquire about a refund on the unused portion of the GAP policy. We were told to return when we received notice the loan was paid off which we did. The finance agent at the dealer said that within the past week after our first visit they were notified that customers requesting a refund on Gap needs to go to M&T bank who promptly sent us to the insurance company who promptly sent us back to the dealer who promptly referred us back to M&T . Called M&T again for the third time to speak to a supervisor. Spoke to someone that eventually let me know to call back because my husband wasn't home to approve me, his wife, to converse about this problem. I told her we went through this last week and they were given permission then. After more irritating conversation I asked her name, couldn't understand what she said and I asked her to spell it. Her name was Alice. I asked where her office was and after some hesitation she eventually said other countries. I hung up. Called back later like I was told to do, left on hold for 10 minutes then was cut off.

M&T bank LOST $19,000 of my money!!! I deposited 31 checks totaling $19,000. One of the people who wrote me the checks told me that their check had not cleared. When I checked my statements I saw that the money had never even gone to my account! I called the main number and they told me that I needed to speak to the branch, they sent me to the wrong branch, and when I finally reached the correct branch I learned that there was no manager at that branch, and the interim manager was at another branch and couldn't help me. This runaround continued until I filed with the BBB and the CFPB and finally got a call from the president's office, acknowledging that I had made the deposit, but they didn't know why the money had never been deposited. I am still waiting to hear what they will do. There are so many complaints about this bank on the internet I'm surprised that they are still in business. If this issue is not resolved soon I am going to set up a contact site for others who have experienced similar problems with this bank.

This bank is terrible! they bought out my current bank and in 6 months has been a nightmare! can't get my address right in the system, still have no business checking account and they charge for everything! just got my statement and found out they charged me $29 for depositing cash into my business account. Why should I have to pay to use the bank for its intended purpose?! Use another bank, this company acts as if you need them not the other way around. Will be closing all my accounts soon
