"Too young" for perimenopause
I experienced a severe loss of executive function and sleep earlier this year. I couldn't do my job or take care of my family or myself, and I was considering finding another career path. My mood and intellectual reasoning were impacted to the point of needing a leave of absence from work when this compounded into rage, unpredictable mood swings, and eventually, monthly somatic panic attacks. I discussed it with my doctor and a therapist who both believed I was suffering from grief and depression, in spite of my family history of early onset primary ovarian insufficiency and sensitivity to hormone fluctuations. I knew my symptoms were cyclical and worsening every. single. day. Month over month. But i was repeatedly ignored and told to seek a psychiatrist. Please don't misunderstand, my family practice doctor is amazing and was working within the medical community's guidelines for her role. But she still completely misread the situation. Then I found Midi Health through a Google Search. By that point, i was legitimately concerned for my sanity but determined, based on the facts of my experience and family history, as well as my own research, that the root cause was hormonal. I booked my first appointment with Midi and was able to see a provider within 2 weeks. Amanda immediately recognized the symptoms of perimenopause. She actually listened to my family history. And I left the appointment with a prescription and a clear plan of care. To not be written off by a medical provider because I was "too young" (39 yo F) or "clearly depressed" was a profound moment for me. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for Amanda and for Midi Health, making this service available to women who have been disregarded or mislabeled as depressed or mentally unstable. Within 48 hours of my new regimen, my baseline began to slowly recover. I didn't hate everyone and everything anymore. Within 4 weeks, I could see marked improvement and could bear the thought of my leave of absence ending without feeling physically ill. During my 2nd visit, my medications were adjusted based on my response to the original medication and dose. Now at the end of my leave, just days before returning to work, I feel confident I have the tools and support to safely transition back to work without immediately changing career paths. And I know that I have a provider I can reach out to if anything changes before my next visit. That peace of mind is priceless. I literally was not paid to write this review. When I received the prompt to share my story, I couldn't pass it up, just in case it helps even one person going through something similar make the decision to make that appointment and finally be heard.
