Stay away from Homebase if you want to process payroll
I moved from Gusto to Homebase because I was looking for a platform that would handle shift management, communication, HR and payroll. Gusto was lacking in the communication piece. Otherwise, we would have stayed. I am extremely disappointed in the switch. They terminated our payroll account without warning due to a failed withdrawal. They take a hard stance on this and there is no wiggle room. Here's the thing. When you are a start up and cash flow varies, it truly irks me that payroll providers take this position. They take funds out of a business account every two weeks only to transfer it into an escrow account to deposit on a quarterly basis. They haven't even deposited any funds to the state or fed on our behalf since April yet they terminate us! Now I am waiting on a refund from them for all the funds they took from us in order for us to make the payments to the government agencies ourselves. They won't give me any straight answer on how much they owe us and they are saying this refund won't arrive for another 7-14 business days. For a company to take such a hard stance on this topic yet let a small business sit around and wait is obnoxious. Also good luck getting a human in their support category- it's 90% ai bots. HARD PASS if you want to run payroll through these guys. The other features are fine but there are other companies that do the shift management and communication piece better.

We're truly sorry your experience with Homebase Payroll ended this way, Mimi. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback—it helps us improve. We understand how frustrating our payroll policies can feel, especially for a growing business with changing cash flow. We see you've closed your account, and while we're sorry to see you go, we sincerely appreciate the time you spent with us. If your needs change in the future, we'd be grateful for the opportunity to support your team again. 💜
