Good quality and offers but packaging could be better
I very rarely bought EL products until a few years ago as I associated the brand with my mother who wore Youth Dew throughout my childhood and, as a consequence, middle age. I also found the packaging too 'bling' and preferred French brands instead. Having said that, I never had any complaints regarding the quality of the products I did happen to use (usually my mother's or gifts). In fact It was excellent customer service at an EL counter when I required a new foundation that finally put my EL prejudices to bed. Perhaps now that I'm over forty, I am able to forgive the questionable advertising and too shiny packaging because quality is really all that matters to me these days. My EL foundation (Double Wear light) is excellent and so too is Perfectly Clean (Multi-Action cleanser). Modern Muse has become my new favourite fragrance, despite the fact I dislike the bottle lid and the name! I do wish EL would offer a pump dispenser bottle, instead of a jar, for more of the face creams, as it would be more hygienic, and I'd love the brand to tone down on the gold packaging, but it clearly appeals to a lot of women. Finally, it would be great if EL stopped using high profile women in their campaigns that I absolutely don't aspire to be! Lancome has always chosen famous actresses who are far more 'starry' (Isabella Rosselini, Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz etc) whereas EL had Liz Hurley for years and now Kendal Jenner...I simply couldn't buy EL when Hurley was their 'face'. I don't buy Lancome because of the famous faces associated with the brand but they haven't put me off either. It would be far more appropriate if EL used much older women in their advertising like L'Oreal has done with Helen Mirren. Overall, a lot of EL skincare and makeup is of high quality and worth every penny. Perfumes are distinct and, although not always for the faint-hearted, they are nonetheless sophisticated and interesting.
