The concept is great, but they enforce a 90 day membership minimum when they claim on their ads you can “cancel anytime”.
The concept is great. I have a senior dog and a cat from the pound and they always are seeming to need medical advice. My dog was very sick from a diet change. That is when I signed up. It seemed great that I was able to get in with a virtual vet over the weekend so quickly. But then even though there were a Costco right in my area where I could’ve went and picked up the medication, they explicitly wrote the prescription so that I could only order it through Dutch and that it would take over a week for the medication to arrive. when I notified them of my disappointment and needing to have the RX transferred, they made me pay a transfer fee and they made it sound like it wasn’t easy for people to get to a Costco. There is a Costco less than a mile and a half from where I live. That was a complete dealbreaker for me. Then when I asked to go ahead and canceled the subscription, they told me that I was locked into a 90 day trial period. This is why I wrote the trust pilot review is because be careful they do not include in the details that there is this 90 day mandatory period in their fine print. They say that you can cancel it anytime. When I held them to this. They continue to reiterate that I had to maintain my subscription for at least 90 days before canceling, but it literally does not say that in the fine print. I have sent them screenshots of their fine print, yet they still charged me. This is bad business because had they not forced me to keep the 90 day prescription I most likely would’ve turned it on and turned it off at my leisure. Apparently this 90 day mandatory and actually deterred me from ever turning my subscription on again. I got stuck with the subscription when I didn’t have time to utilize it, and still had to pay for it anyways. To make matters more offensive, my fault business was affected by the Palisades fire. And I live in a community in proximity to the Pacific Palisades, where the entire community is still trying to work together to help rebuild. It is very low ethics to do this to people who are already struggling from a massive fire. Looking back, it may have just made more sense to take my dog to the vet while I thought I was saving some money at the time and thought it was more convenient. I literally ended up paying over a extra almost hundred dollars for services or advice that I never received. What a waste of money. It would’ve been better to invest that into my dogs, actual health or something for my cat. As someone who retails skin care online, I also frown against their practice of forcing you to have to go through their store. While, it does make sense that they want you to be able to access exactly what the vet has recommended, especially in the situations like the one I was in where I needed to get my dog her medicine immediately I really could not stand that they put my dog’s comfort and her health behind their priority of profit. I really hope that they update their terms and conditions to be more transparent that there is a 90 day mandatory. Before you can cancel. Because they actually do say you can cancel it anytime. This is false information.
Response from Dutch VetMay 30, 2025
Thank you for sharing your experience — we’re truly sorry to hear about your frustration, and we appreciate you taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. To clarify a few important points: Dutch does not have any contracts, and you are absolutely able to cancel your subscription at any time either directly through your account or by reaching out to our customer service team. You always have the option to transfer your prescription to a local pharmacy of your choice, including Costco. However, we do not ship medications to pharmacies — if a prescription is filled through Dutch, it is shipped directly to you. We also want to be transparent that we do not "force" prescriptions to be filled through Dutch. The choice is always yours, and we’re sorry if that wasn’t communicated clearly in your case. We’ve reached out directly to gather more information and take a closer look at your account. We want to understand what went wrong and do what we can to make it right. We take your concerns seriously, especially regarding transparency, communication around fees, and the impact this had during an already difficult time in your community. Your feedback is being shared with our team, and we’re continuously working to improve our service and policies to better serve our members. Thank you again for raising these concerns — we hope to have the opportunity to resolve this directly with you.
